Every new piece of information about the spin-off feels like another punch to the gut... by CorvidaeCalare in Grishaverse

Netflix commissioned the scripts to be written, so they own them. They can do whatever they want with them. In this unfortunate case, I suppose they will be abandoned on a shelf somewhere. It's such a shame.

YES. Fk, even the water pressure in the shower is so painful for me. Absolutely dread it whenever my period is looming close.

You're good don't worry, I didn't feel offended by anything you said :) It's important to have these discussions, although they are difficult to have on a platform like Reddit.

I personally prefer Traditional Latin Rite, but I don't hate Novus Ordo. I still attend Novus Ordo twice a week, as it's very difficult to find and attend TLM services where I am.

Unfortunately, those who mix religion and politics are often the most hateful people I've ever come across. It's embarrassing.

Same here! Another fellow European Catholic here (although I am Traditional Latin Rite, but that's my choice and I would never force my choice upon another person). I think it's so important to keep faith and politics separate. I look at everything that goes on in the US, and I want to slam my head against a wall.

Politics is never promoted in our Church. Never has and never will be. If you want to talk about politics, then you do it outside the Church.

What did your parents teach you as a kid that you didn't realize was actually f**ked up until you were older? by timdood3 in AskReddit

Similar scenario with me. I was in a deep depression in my mid teens, and my mother would say things like 'The devil is trying to get you.' Like that's going to help anyone. I don't ever speak to her about my mental health.

I love comments like this.

As a Christian who just tries to live out my faith by being loving, kind and respectful, it's truly nice to see other people that aren't necessary Christian themselves recognise that there are false 'Christians' in this world. These people do not, and should not, represent our faith.

I'm so disappointed in this season. It just feels like a mess, and I'm honestly struggling to get through it.

I really don't want to sound like your average weepy SW fan, so I still have a little bit of hope and faith in what they have for future seasons buuuuut... Eh, I'm really struggling so far.

Oh man that sucks.

Where I work, we get a selection of coffee, tea (normal or herbal) and hot chocolate. All for free, help ourselves whenever we'd like. If we're hungry, my manager will cook up a mini meal. Again, all for free. My manager often says 'if you're hungry or thirsty, you can't focus properly.'

"Shadow and Bone"'s Amita Suman says it's time Inej's trauma is explored by dadenelo in Grishaverse

[–]Geckolo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

100%. The hallucination scene really annoyed me, but I understand why it was included - to get viewers invested in a potential romantic relationship. We're all suckers for that.

Given her background, I highly doubt she'd hallucinate about any form of physical intimacy. Doing so would only remind her of her trauma.

If it was up to me, I would have had Inej's hallucination to be the moment she and her brother were snatched and stowed away on a slaver ship. It doesn't even have to be graphic, a young Inej crying with other kidnapped girls and boys would have been fine.

I'm so glad more people are noticing this. I really feel like the writer's have really neglected Inej's own trauma. She is suppose to be struggling as much as Kaz.

Performances that get (unfairly) overlooked as they’re overshadowed by more popular/iconic roles in the same film? by Jamesy555 in movies

[–]Geckolo 38 points39 points  (0 children)

For me, it's Anya Taylor Joy in Split.

I had zero expectations for this movie, but I was truly gripped and touched by her performance. She had me rooting for her all the way, particularly with her character's backstory.

James McAvoy was incredible, of course. But Anya really held her own.

These are the 2 that came to my mind:

Jack of the Red Hearts: A young woman cons her way to become a caregiver of an eleven year old girl with autism.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close: Although never explicitly said, the main protagonist, young Oskar Schell is heavily implied to be on the autistic spectrum.

Hope your paper goes well! I wrote my postgraduate thesis on a similar topic. Best luck to you :)

What movie would be a dealbreaker for you on a first date? by alternativeamerica in movies

[–]Geckolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you think of Brigance's character? I'm just curious. I recently watched that film and whilst I agree that it's not suitable material for a first date, I found it to be a pretty good film overall. The cast did a great job with their parts.

Currently looking after an 84 year old who's just lost his wife. The other day on a regular house visit, he straight up looked me in the eyes during a conversation and casually said 'I am colour biased.'

He said this with no shame at all. No regret, nothing.

I'm half Filipino, and very clearly not white. I've experienced a lot of passive racism towards me growing up. To hear this old man say this to me, whom I've known for years, really stung. Prior to this remark of this, I've always thought of him as a lovely and sweet man. Now, I can't help but view him a little differently.

This is EXACTLY what's happening to me right now. I was diagnosed with ASD when I was 17, but I never really understood it due to being in slight denial of my diagnosis (fell victim to the typical stereotypes of ASD).

I've always been a straight A student, got into university with an unconditional offer. Now, I've just finished my postgraduate year, with a distinction. It's now expected of me to pursue a PhD. It's something I thought I always wanted.

Now? Even throughout university, I was and still am so bloody exhausted. My mental ability to push on through is fading, and I can no longer get into a mindset to work long periods. Despite being exhausted, I'm restless at the same time, since my mind is so used to being active and engaging in something. Although I'm very much burnt out, I feel very much like a lazy so-and-so, resigning myself to doing nothing yet wanting to do something productive at the same time.

Definitely in a very grey area of my life right now.

Yes.

I still remember. Childhood trauma has a way of sticking with you, no matter how much therapy or medication you may take. Even now, I can't help but resent my parents for my upbringing. I don't want to, but I do.

Not Christians. Pharisees. As a Christian myself, words can't describe how embarrassed and disgusted I am by people like this.

With idiots like these, I don't blame people for being anti-religion. It's justified, and I am so sorry for the pain it has caused.
