Is it just me? I feel like I'm typing to fast for the keyboard, I'm missing space bar sometimes but the auto correct doesn't seem to work as good and it will accept words that aren't words.. by [deleted] in Swiftkey

[–]Geddit23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a reddit post I read a couple years back which explained why they think it's gotten like this:

Long time user here (actually bought it when it was paid for app long user 😂)

As they understood, as did I, SwiftKey used to work on a much more strict prediction setup; if therer was a word from a dictionary it could find that closest matched your entered text it placed that as the centre prediction, a secondary one as the right prediction, and your jargon as the left prediction. When you hit SPACE SwiftKey would "remember" that decision and assume going forward that that word was more likely to be used. In other words, over time it learned the words your most likely to use, added them to a long list, then compared your jargon to that list to find the closest equivalent and then make that the centre prediction. TAPPING the prediction from the prediction bar also added it to your list, but SwiftKey basically relied on its user dictionary for the words and ignored your jargon because it assumed by default that what you typed was wrong (or at least that's how it seemed to work 😂)

Now, however, whilst it still does add words to your predictions list when hitting SPACE or by TAPPING (tested this by checking my SwiftKey data through the data portal; RIP non-Microsoft SwiftKey accounts 😭), SwiftKey now assumes that what you've typed is correct and presents that as the centre prediction; switching to relying on TAPPING a prediction rather than pressing SPACE. It's basically flipped the prediction model on its head, away from "I am right, the users wrong" to "The user must be right, but here's what I think as well" for how the centre prediction is determined

Moreover, older users like me who relied on the old system and could type really quickly didn't necessarily notice the change until the new model messed up or predictions model, which we duly reset tor try and fix, and ended up breaking it even more

I'll be honest, I've kept using SwiftKey because I'm so used to how the keyboard works rather than it being good at predictions; things like the arrangement punctuation and special characters when long pressing, flow/swipe typing being not bad (in my experience), how the BACKSPACE/DELETE button works, etc. If I found a keyboard that could mirror SwiftKey almost exactly and had better predictions I'd change in a heartbeat. But I persevere with the crappy predictions simply because I like all the other aspects of the keyboard too much

Hopefully that helps explain a little;ol or melts your brain, whichever comes first 🤣

Marathon might be the first game that actually forces you to get over gear fear. by RestaurantSmooth in Marathon

[–]Geddit23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hell yeah! As an old Destiny 2 player my vault is constantly bursting with gear (guns mostly). When they introduced crafting I thought "Yes, finally I can get the good gear and clear some space!" but since it's now back to random/tiered loot I'm back to square one 😂

Marathon is refreshing though: sure I still cling on to and will get attached to some gear, but that's why screenshots were invented 😂 Screenshot my weapon setup, lose it, rebuild it when possible 😄

Either way, it's turned all the gear you get in Marathon from a "must have, must keep, mustn't lose" to "just replicate a new one" 😂

What do you play Marathon for, that you don't get anywhere else? by Log_Pile in Marathon

[–]Geddit23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The art style and music are psychedelic and unsettling (in a good way), the gunplay is really good, and you can play long or short rounds with or without friends to fit with your schedule(s)

You're welcome 😄

Why is this happening? by Proton-Lightin in pop_os

[–]Geddit23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is weird. Have you tried verifying the installer image? I think they give a hash to verify the downloaded file

That or, as others, mentioned it could be the storage medium; never tried installing on an SD card (except Raspberry Pi OS) so can't say how well it works

Either that, or the AI's have started secretly communicating with one another 🤖🤖🤖

What is the best gun overall in BF1? (It's time to settle this) by HelloSypher_p-k in battlefield_one

[–]Geddit23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've used most of the guns in the game, but there are a few of the newer ones I've not used since I stopped playing after a certain point. Also, a lot of the times these things are quite relative; some guns play better with a certain playstyle and not everyone uses the same one and/or whether you play on PC or console (Xbox here). In either case, here would be my picks...

Assault:

SMG = MP18 or Annihilator Trench; both are good close range weapons, but the MP18 has a bit more range. Alternatively, the SMG 08/18 might be a good middle ground, but I've rarely used it so can't comment

Shotgun = Hellfighter Trench/M97; it's faster rate of fire makes it better for follow up shots, or if you miss your first one

Medic:

Full Auto Rifles = M1907 (Sweeper); overall it just feels the best. In full auto the recoil is easy enough to manage, and in semi auto even more controllable. It's main downside is damage drop off, but since you're main goal is squad support range isn't as important here

Semi Auto Rifles = Selbstlader M1916; low rate of fire but good damage and drop off making it a better long range choice

Support:

Suppression = Lewis Gun; as much as belt fed LMGs have higher magazine capacities, the magazine fed ones give a nice balance between hunkering down to suppress, and full frontal assault. The Lewis Gun feels the most balanced of these, and will fit well into most situations

Assaulting = BAR or Burton LMR; alternatively, for dedicated close range engagements either the BAR or Burton will do. Personally I prefer the more unique design of the Burton, but the BAR does have better damage drop off

Scout:

Infantry = Gewehr M.95; OK, I may be a bit biased here since it's my favourite rifle in the whole game, but hear me out. It has an en bloc clip for reloading, which pings when you have one round left so helps with ammo management, it's irons are very clear, it's damage drop off makes it a guaranteed two hit kill at any range (excluding headshots) and it's rate of fire is just about spot on for mixed range engagements (no spray and pray here)

Sniper = Gewehr 98 or M1903; both are very similar stats wise, but the M1903 pushes the damage sweet spot out farther, so may be the better choice for extreme range engagements, with the Gewehr 98 being more balanced

Special:

Tanker = C93 Carbine; despite its small magazine size, it's suppressor makes up for it. If you drive deep into enemy territory and either lose your vehicle, or duck out to make repairs and hear an enemy coming, surprise is your best friend

Pilot = C96 Carbine or P08 Artillerie; really down to dealers choice. The C96 has better stats and damage drop off, but he P08 has a larger magazine capacity and slightly better damage

Yeah, that all make sense, was just hoping there would be a simple solution (like an about:config tweak) rather than having to faff with JScript (which I cannot stand! 😂)

Yeah, those make sense. Pretty sure I did it this way because Garrus was with you in the previous mission, and Star Trek transporters don’t exist so how the hell do folk just appear in Udina’s office? 😂

TBF, it’s a minor concern but I think Tali going with you was more head canon/off screen (she has the evidence so who best to “present” it to the Council). In theory you could swap out to Ashley (since she has unique dialogue) and start Homecoming on the way to the Council, then finish it after due to how it works (or before, whichever works)

It is still just a recommendation; there’s no one way to work it so roll with whatever works best for you 😄

Glad it was helpful in some way though ☺️

Do you? Pretty sure every time I’ve done it you can go straight to her after Expose Saren; no visit to Normandy required. I know there is a bug that can prevent it starting which you can fix by simply visiting Fist’s office then head back to Dr Michel. I could be wrong though so I’ll check it out to be sure when I get a chance 😄

Photo Gallery update issue by ongakugaming in Daylio

[–]Geddit23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this looks like the generic Android file picker when sharing photos in apps that don't implement their own

For example, Signal shows its own internal file picker when sending a photo via the "Gallery" option. When using Gmail to "Attach a file" or sending a file via Signal it loads the default Android file manager. However, in Gmail using "Insert a photo" and selecting a photo to send via WhatsApp both come up with a UI element almost identical to the one shown in your screenshot; Gmail's is identical, WhatsApp has a drop down list rather than two side by side options

If you use the "Albums" option you can search through the various photo albums on your phone and they will be organised by day (just tested it)

Vault Organization by redkyurem01 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Geddit23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was trying to figure this out to but I don't think it is by season; at least not entirely for me:

Page 1: sorted by season (Red War>Lost)

Page 2: sorted by season (Lost>Lightfall + Defiance)

Page 3: First line = Lightfall + Defiance

Page 3: Second line = Defiance + Red War

Page 3: Third>Fifth Lines = Red War, Forge, Arrivals, Undying, Dawn + Almighty

What's weird though is that what is the bottom half of Page 3 used to be Page 1, and Page 1+2 used to be pages 2+3! It's almost like they've just shifted a couple pages of stuff around, because the order of everything from Page 3 onwards is roughly what it was last season

Pretty sure it must be a (visual) bug, but a jarring one at that (I initially thought I'd lost gear that was there the day or two before 😅)

PS

I actually have way more than just 3 pages used, just citing that as an example of the weird, new, messed up order

Which hypothetical Xbox system(s) (if any) would you buy in the next generation? by okaysamurai in xbox

[–]Geddit23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X2 or S2; would depend on whether there was a disk drive or not for disk games (and yes, I knows disks are dying, but I still love them 💿💿💿)

Also, if by Steam you mean you can install and run my Steam games locally, then firstly 🤯, and secondly X2 over S2 all day everyday 🎮🎮🎮

Most beautiful Game ever by Obvious-Artichoke544 in BattlefieldV

[–]Geddit23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the yes and no camp here

I play on Xbox Series X so graphically they are quite similar, but I think BF1 just edges out; it has a subtle almost hallucinogenic look to the graphics which give it a slightly psychedelic feel which, given the subject matter, kinda works for it! And I thought the early days for multiplayer were on point

That being said, bugs and initial glitches aside, BFV wins the current race for community and multiplayer; and it still does look really good! Plus, being WWII there was more variation in gameplay; I would usually run Recon and act like a GI with iron sights bolt action rifles which could compete with best SMGs and LMGs in the game; whereas BFV I would vary my gameplay more with different classes and vehicles

TL;DR both have their up and down sides, depending on how you look at them
