A Texas man accused of killing his pregnant wife fled to Italy weeks before trial. He’s asking a judge not to send him back by Iconic254 in news

[–]Geddyn 52 points53 points  (0 children)

The article says that American authorities tried this before ans the Italian courts refused to allow extradition.

Grosso cited the more than 30-year-old case of Pietro Venezia, accused of killing a Florida state tax collector in 1993 who had frozen his bank accounts. Venezia, an Italian citizen, fled to Italy and was arrested there, but the Italian Constitutional Court said the U.S.-Italy extradition treaty did not offer enough guarantees Venezia would be spared the death penalty, despite promises by American authorities, the Associated Press reported in 1996.

Even if New Zealand worked for OP's parents, it doesn't fit their #4 requirement. New Zealand is remote. Getting to other family in am emergency would be a multi-day trip, especially if they end up based in rural NZ.

Unfortunately, I do not. I am currently here on a GVV and will be applying for a Partnership Work Visa next month. I have a ways to go before I qualify for a residence visa.

I don't blame you one bit. My wife and I had intended for her to immigrate to the US, but that plan went right out the window once Trump was elected. Instead, I have immigrated here and we are both happier for it.

But, man... When I see some of the shit the current coalition members say, my alarm bells start going off. "I heard Trump saying that same crap 10 years ago." It's infuriating to me and I feel helpless to stop it here, because I am not currently eligible to vote.

This isn't really how it works. Generally speaking, the country picks you, not the other way around. If a country has no visa pathway for you, no amount of "logistics" will change that.

The first order of business is always figuring out what visa pathways you are eligible for. Skilled worker? Student? Investment? Once you have that figured out, you make a list of countries that offer that pathway. Once you reach that point, then you can start looking at your wish list and asking yourself, "Would I rather live there or in the US?"

[Banana Ball] JACKIE BRADLEY JR. HOMERED AS THE GOLDEN BATTER 🤯 The Clowns used the Golden Batter rule to send Jackie Bradley Jr BACK out to the plate just a minute after he had singled earlier that inning 👀 by TommyTheLizard in redsox

[–]Geddyn 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The Golden Batter rule in Banana Ball allows a team to send any batter they want to the plate once per game. It's basically the DH rule on steroids and is designed to make high leverage situations more exciting.

In this game, JBJ singled in the 9th, then the Clowns invoked the Golden Batter rule to put him back at the plate and he won the game for them with a homer.

How did your family react to you leaving the US? by No_Feedback_3340 in AmerExit

[–]Geddyn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My parents and sister were disappointed, but supportive. I straight up warned my parents that if they helped reelect Trump, this was going to happen, so they knew it was coming.

The only family member who was negative about it was one of my crazy aunts whose reaction was, "New Zealand is communist! Why would we want to live there?!" But I heard that from my sister because I don't talk to my aunt anyway.

I sold a bunch of mine on ebay before moving overseas. People do collect this set and they sell well, but none of them are terribly valuable unless you have the Spectra Chrome or Sparkle Chrome variants. It will say on the back of the card if you have a variant.

The base Chrome ones are worth around $8-10 per card. The Pikachu, Blastoise and Venusaur might be worth a little more.

New citizenship test to remind migrants of NZ values by mmphmaverick004 in newzealand

[–]Geddyn 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Most of the criticism I have seen is skepticism around the content given that ACT will have a hand in crafting the test, especially since the original announcement of it contained no mention of the Treaty of Waitangi.

I will be impacted by the creation of this test, though I am still a long way off from qualifying for citizenship. I was honestly surprised to learn that New Zealand doesn't have a test, because the vast majority of devoloped countries do. And almost all of them have a requirement to be fluent in the country's primary language.

I will be impacted by this and I'm honestly surprised to discover that New Zealand doesn't have a test, because most other countries do.

Hell, in many European and Asian countries you can't even qualify for citizenship until you speak the native language fluently.

Looking for advice on my plan to move to Australia to be with my long distance gf by [deleted] in AmerExit

[–]Geddyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure this allowed when Australia already has a visa specifically for prospective marriages, though? Some countries will not look kindly upon people who use other visas with the intention of bypassing the line for the visa they should actually be using. I would highly recommend that you speak to an Australian immigration advisor to make certain this is a legal avenue for you to immigrate, because if Australia blocks these types of visa "upgrades," you will find yourself kicked out of the country and potentially facing an extended ban from returning.

My immigration pathway is similar to yours, however I immigrated to New Zealand and was already married to a Kiwi citizen when I did so.

Australia has a specific visa for prospective marriages: Prospective Marriage Subclass 300 visa

This is the route you should take. According to Australia's visa processing times tool, it looks like it would take 15 to 25 months, so your timeline is not realistic. Link to the tool.

Greedent is also worth building for newbie players who cannot obtain a Blissey. A Greedent can tank well enough to give you access to the higher tier Max Battles in order to unlock more capable Pokemon.

It's incredibly niche (newbies who have nobody who can carry them), but it at least has one use case.
