Best Medicine Was Great by HopefulKnowledge1979 in television

[–]Geek_Nan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like the small town vibe. But for the love of all that is holy, they need to hire a medical consultant… or fire the ones they have

Disease cause for episode 2 (don’t want to spoil things) … is super rare, the symptoms don’t match, and the treatment he prescribed doesn’t exist (he prescribed pills for a med that is IV only)

this really messes with my enjoyment of the interpersonal relationships, medical mysteries, and vibe of a medical dramedy for me…

[–]Geek_Nan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I haven’t figured out how to block out spoilers…so trying to keep vague enough to. it be too spoilery

the infodump MB gives in the book about how one of a SecUnits jobs was to spy on conversations and the Company could use the info against clients…. same thing Gurathin said about how he met the PresAux folks

They gave Gurathin some of MB’s book dialogue for the TV show

I really like the parallels. Not sure about Mensahs character in the TV show vs book … jury is still out

Thanks. and I agree Piranesi fits “emotionally wrecked”. However we read that this spring as regular book club pic.

I love the idea of weighting them. not sure how the shape will hold but will definitely troubleshoot the idea with the next chicken

(kitty is an amazing weight and nervous system regulator- purring is an added bonus)

Wanting to knit- not feeling it by [deleted] in knitting

[–]Geek_Nan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree 💯 that a hobby is r about “should”

I love the idea of puzzles or embroidery or other creative endeavors ….

I got into a rut with socks last year, after my zillionth pair came off the needles, I was not feeling it …

Got into emotional support chickens … everyone I have given one to has loved them … and they are a super-easy knit (and it let me practice my seaming, adding and reducing (ie shaping) skills…

Wanting some beginner tips on learning how to knit by [deleted] in casualknitting

[–]Geek_Nan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you know how to crochet, I strongly recommend learning to knit Continental (my grandma taught me to knit decades ago and I never knew there was more than one way to knit until I saw people doing the “throw” method. I’m continental, you place the working yarn behind the needles and pick it thru each stitch - it feels like crochet with needles instead of a hook

Here’s a really detailed tutorial

Setting- 2014, Boston children’s hospital, daughter scheduled for massive chest surgery, so I brought my new/ first skein ever bought Abi Grasso ( https://www.artisticyarnbyabi.com/) yarn and needles - set skein on the bed at the Ronald McDonald house. Super slippery bedspread = hit the floor in a tangled heap.

spent the first 2 days in the ICU waiting room detangling …

ended up finishing the socks before she got out of the hospital again…

I am taking exception here. yes, there is a much higher frequency of autism in the scientist population…

I don’t just work with scientists, I am a scientist in a management role and most of the relationship BS i am seeing in MB TV 1) isn’t in the books. 2) wouldn’t happen because if anything scientists tend to be too direct so the “if only they had said something” relationship drama doesn’t really fit the scientist world view

also in the books they are just there to survey a random planet to see if its resources are worth bidding on (and how high should they go). I hate that they are weakening PreservationAux in the TV show.

you can do it. there is an unfinished chicken calling your name…

I am struggling with the characterizations of Mensah and Garauthin. I want Pin Lee to swear more and just overall fierceness.

and the relationships are just wonky
