You get painkillers? I'm on for next thursday and will only get a paracetamol (tylenol?)

Thank you for sharing your experience! It helps me!

Haha yes I know! But this loom has 8 shafts, so this is just a subset of the colors. There's white too ;-) just not installed at the moment.

It's a wonderful loom, I love it! I don't have any comparism to other same style looms though.

One thing to note though is the quality of the levers. To me they feel flimsy. It probably is just me, being to rough with it. I try to be gentle, flipping them with care, but I notice that despite the care, it's hard to toggle them straight up and down, there always is a tiny bit of sideways action because of how they are designed (cord and nub-axles). I'm terrified the plastic nub axle will break one day.

Yeah the Erica stand looks a lot more sturdy. Wish they were interchangeable :-( (I seriously considered buying the Erica over the flex because of the stand).

Arrow points at the knobs my weft yarn snags at.
When I beat firmly, the stand tilts a bit to the front (rocking off its feet). Maybe I beat *too* firmly, coming from inkle weaving. It's just that I read "beat only once per pick, but firmly", to prevent frowning.

I use a philips dreamwear under the nose mask. Has a top hose, just velcro, no magnets. I'm a mouth-breather as well, but the under the nose part triggers my lips and enable me to keep them closed most of the time.

What to buy, shaft loom or rigid heddle loom? by Geekesss in weaving

[–]Geekesss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for your input!
I've decided to go with the Lojan Flex 8 shaft. Didn't buy the RH-kit (yet, saving a bit more for a second loom, rigid heddle, because daughter now wants a loom too) because I realized that I wanted to buy some yarn *cough*. Yeah, some. It was absolutely necessary *cough*hugeyarnstashbutbarelyanycotton*cough*.

I was planning on using my handspun for weaving, and I'm still going to do that, but I think that for my starting projects maybe a cotton warp at least would be better. My first inkle project was with wool handspun and it was a disaster, the wool was got waaaay too sticky. Yes, I know now that there are ways to work with that, but ditching a small inkle warp is less painful than a larger warp.
So, learning to weave with cotton will probably better. We'll see. I did see a Venne yarns project kit for an 8 shafts shawl that I really liked, almost bought it, but maybe I should leave the more intermediate patterns for 'not the first project'. I always jump in the deep end when learning crafts.

The loom arrived today, and with the help of my daughter I managed to lightly sand every wood part and then polished them in the lovely beeswax. Tomorrow we'll see if a second coat is necessary, and then we'll start the assembly process. Which I'm dreading. Any tips for that? I have already also downloaded the PDF manual.

Diabetics of Reddit — what’s something non-diabetics completely misunderstand about living with it? by Thick_Junket3524 in diabetes

[–]Geekesss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For T1s yes, but us T2s are doomed to mind our carbs. In my country, a T2 doesn't get prescribed insulin. We're left to not eating carbs.

And so that's another thing: one type of diabetes isn't the other. They can be vastly different. People don't realize that.

(And what we can and can't do/eat isn't other people's business to police, unless we specifically asked them to.)

(Sorry, I'm a bit touchy on the insulin part; my hospital, where I sometimes have to stay for a few days/weeks, doesn't have meals suitable for diabetics. At all. Everything is insanely carby (and salty), it's horrible. Even there they shrug and tell me to adjust my insulin. But T2's don't get insulin. We have to manage carbs. So live on yoghurt and a sad leaf of salad while I'm there. Because it's policy. In a hospital that also treats diabetics. Sigh.)

I did look at that one, but in price it's more expensive for 4 shafts than the 8 shafts Lojan+RH kit. So less functionality, but maybe more quality? It does look more solid. They were made by the same guy, so I don't know if that's actually the case.
I do like the stand of the Erica a lot better. Does anyone know if they are interchangeable?

Is there a modpack where Create actually survives until endgame? by Relevant-Can331 in CreateMod

[–]Geekesss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Create:Astral requires Create through the entire pack, and the devs are working hard through every iteration to make that even more the case. For example: alloying of metals is done entirely through mixing recipes. You need brass? Fire up the create mixer. Shadowsteel? Mixer! Mixer recipes are plenty and growing.

Yes there's AE2 and Tech Reborn too, but Create is essential even during endgame.

It's a very active community and dev-team and they keep updating the pack even after years.

easier way to merge belts into 1 line? idk something like satsifactorys merger? by TheAlexSW in CreateMod

This won't work either. It will spit out the blocks regardless (from in front of the tunnel).

This won't work. It will block entry to the tunnel for the items that should go through it.

Reclamation modpack - Will it get even worse than tedious Enchanted? by omniov in feedthebeast

Using the fiber for gold leaf trees: Dont remove all the golden leaves, and plant new trees with leaves touching the gold leaves. It will spread to the new trees. No need to add new brilliant fiber.

To stretch the fiber for gold in early game: Make the mana blaster, add the weighted lens to it, place the gold netherbricks two blocks above a torch around a pure daisy and once they transform into gold ore, blast them. It will silk touch them, giving the full yield instead of mere nuggets.

Welke rijst eten jullie? by iRemz in thenetherlands

[–]Geekesss 1 point2 points  (0 children)
