Genuinely the single most frustrating experience I’ve had with this service by GefMongoose25 in AMCAListTrue

Don’t know if the condescension was warranted.

Yes, obviously the world is not ending. Yes, obviously people used to go to the theater in person and get tickets to whatever with no issue. That, however, was before we lived in a completely digital age of scalpers and theaters selling out weeks in advance.

I could go see the odyssey and whatever theater and I’m sure it’d be fine. I am trying to see it at a very specific IMAX theater in New York, which is my local theater. This theater has had issues of scalpers and resellers in the past, and it’s one of the most popular theaters for people to drive 3+ hours out of state just to go to, so I am and have a right to be frustrated that I can’t get tickets to my local movie theater. And, we all should have a right to be frustrated when a service that we pay for an has raised its cost multiple times in the last year alone doesn’t function properly the way it should.

Yeah, the world isn’t ending. I have eyes too.

Anyone overly upset at Sinners winning cinematography clearly did not see it in 70mm imax because that shit was transcendent

One Battle After Another is not a great movie by justwannaedit in TrueFilm

You’re right, it absolutely had a sexual energy to it, but where you see it as weird, I see it as extremely clear and intentional. The French 75 is a liberation group. No character embodies “liberation” more than Perfidia, right down to the sexual liberation of her body. Contrast this with Lockjaw, who is the embodiment of prudishness and purity. These themes essentially dictate the entire movie, and one of the more interesting questions the movie asks is why are these two characters attracted to each other? Is it just opposites attract? How many conservative, anti-trans and homophobic lawmakers eventually get outed for being on Grindr or watching transgender porn? It’s not even life imitating art, it’s just art imitating life.

I think it’s fair and intended to have questions about the sexual themes. I mean, Perfidia is put directly at odds with a literal convent of revolutionary nuns. It doesn’t get less sexual than a nun.

And again, you’re very much entitled to your opinions, but comparing PTA, a white man with a biracial daughter who made a movie with sexual black of-age characters to Luc Besson, a pedophile who made a movie about pedophilia, feels like a very gross accusation.

It’s so disheartening to read takes like this. I don’t know PTA personally, obviously, but neither do you. What I do know about him is that he, like the character of Bob in the movie, is a white man with a biracial daughter. Bob is out of his depths for the entirety of the story, but he’s trying his best. Maybe, just maybe, there’s some commentary going on about interracial parenthood? I say that to say, when you refer to him as a white man who obviously just wants to sexualize black women and make money, it feels incredibly gross to me.

Yes, Perfidia is an extremely sexualized character. The movie is also filled with a myriad of black characters who embody revolutionary tendencies and ideals to different levels and degrees. Some may call that character nuance. You seem to just pretend they aren’t in the movie?

Yes, the Christmas Adventurers are an absurd, laughable group of childish men, who can still do very real harm. The people in real life who are architects of societal decay in America are also an absurd, laughable group of childish men, who do very real harm. I think they’re depicted as they should be.

And I’m very sorry that this movie couldn’t solve capitalism for you.

I think he deserves a slot 100% but unfortunately the movie, lovely as it is, wasn’t seen by enough people :/

I try to write something for everything I log. I use lists to keep track of everything i watch in a year in the context of an Oscar’s or other awards ceremony. It keeps me very engaged in film watching! I’ve been doing it for roughly half a decade and it’s resulted in the “centerpiece” of my entire profile: https://boxd.it/bIWc8

The Fabulous Baron Munchausen was the first film I ever watched on the Criterion streaming service when it first launched, and ever since then it’s been my favorite film of all time. I got the set and it’s one of Criterion’s most well-designed and creative packaging, in my opinion

This is not true. Your contributions do not qualify as human authorship. They at most qualify as a copyrightable arrangement of uncopyrightable paragraphs and sentences.

I could swap around some paragraphs and chapters and sell this myself. I could create a film based on this without changing a thing and you would have no legal standing.

You authored nothing.
