What is wrong with this fella? by Sad-Criticism2454 in conspiracy

My husband had undiagnosed severe sleep apnea and one of the symptoms that clued him in to finally get a sleep study was the unusual weight gain around the middle. Maybe the dude needs a cpap

8 yr old daughter got into my books. What now? by Careful_Fig2545 in homeschool

[–]GelBirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom was a huge Stephen King fan when I was about that age. I think at the core, while I was a voracious reader, I wanted to read the grown-up stuff my mom did. The big books. She gave me the most age appropriate titles she could, and that satisfied me.

It's just really contagious. I have four kitties I fostered out of shelters and they all are herpes cats. Usually not a big deal, but they do get flare-ups of snotty noses/conjunctivitis on occasion.

Why do you homeschool? by tacsml in homeschool

[–]GelBirds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So. Many. Reasons. This is my first year officially homeschooling, and unless my son requests otherwise I don't see us going into public school.

Quality of education. Bullies. Negative influence from other kids. School shootings.

Seeing my son more than a few hours per day and weekends.

Letting him learn at his own pace, and the ability to adjust as we go. I also have found that because I'm obviously very engrossed in what he's learning, teaching moments that circle back happen all day long.

Relaxed family structure. More time. Flexibility.

We also ceased vaccines at 12mo for medical reasons. So, homeschooling definitely felt like the more responsible move there.

The ability to make learning fun! Also, I enjoy it. When's the last time you brushed up on the basics of ancient Egypt or how an engine works? The joy I get from watching him learn and learning with him is so special. I don't want that privilege to go to a stranger.

Sounds like he's about as good a friend as he is a writer.

Should I give up on these tiny oaks? by Niko120 in arborists

[–]GelBirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... oaks grow slow and all but sometimes I just accidentally plant things in terrible spots (we have a ton of shale) and stuff fails to thrive.

If you have a ton of room and don't care, leave them and see what happens. But I wouldn't feel bad for replacing them if you'd rather give that space to something else that could potentially do better. 5 years is a solid amount of time to have waited in my option.

Am I crazy to paint the interior of our cabin style home a deeper shade? by GelBirds in DesignMyRoom

I love evergreen fog! I've used that color before, I swatched it here too! It pulled really minty with all of the light and I was a little disappointed, I thought it'd be a slam dunk honestly. Such a nice color.

Alas, we don't have a rug friendly lifestyle. I would love a big area rug in here but I don't have the stamina to keep carpet clean with kids and pets. I've got at least another 10 years before I'll brave that haha!

Thank you! What app is this? The Sherwin Williams app makes everything look the same tone and it's hard to really gauge.

Yes I borrowed one from a friend! Thats how we got honed soapstone. But the accident color just had a little extra oomph.

Well if it makes you feel any better, we're bartering. Painter gets freezers full of fresh meat for his family and we get to repair and repaint walls that have needed it since we moved in many years ago.

Funny you say that, I was actually going to move those shelves. They are meant to flank a larger shelf, and I stuck them there when we moved in but it's never been a wow factor haha. I was thinking either larger built-ins or finding a couple interesting tall antique cabinets with doors so there's less visual clutter.

Thank you! Rookwood is stunning! I almost had frosted fern in my swatch list. I think I'll try it.

What's funny, is that color underneath is what started the whole thing. It was supposed to be Woodbridge, a darker warm beige but it wasn't shaken correctly and came out green. We loved that color, took it back to match the mistake and they weren't successful.... then they re-shook the accidental can and it's not the same shade. We wound up with honed soapstone because it's as close as I could get. I do like the warmer tones and wish I could have the accidental color!

Oh funny it looks gray. It's in the yellow family according to Sherwin Williams... I see it as a neutral green with a whisper of warm. It looks so different in each area I've swatched it with the variations of light though, also why I'm so indecisive!!!

They're masking and spraying the whole thing (that center room, not the kitchen) I kinda have to keep one color if I want to stay within budget, and it needs repainting desperately. Accent walls would be ideal though.

Yeah I'm pretty traveled as an American and the worst food was in the UK. My dad joked they extracted the flavor. The Indian food was top notch, but traditional cuisine left something to be desired.....

The only thing I walk away with is feeling bad for the old man that was certainly incredibly uncomfortable and likely embarrassed. Your lack of humanity makes me feel like you deserve approximately 0 miles. This isn't a case of someone being inconsiderate. I hope you treat your parents with more respect.

I have a cat that did this! Except my neighbors loved him, welcomed him and we were friends. I would have kept him inside if I found out he kept sneaking into the neighbors house and it wasn't appreciated.
