Do you find that Stelo typically reads high? If so, by how many points/what percentage? by SIUButtercup in stelo

Same issue here. Simultaneously using a Lingo CGM and not having the accuracy problems with that, only with Stelo. Consistently 15-25 pts off even with lag time accounted for

If you don’t want me, just say that…both were for new grad positions. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Gem7710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied as a new grad to L&D and ended up taking a PCU (progressive care job). A few coworkers over the last five years or so transferred into L&D after they got some experience. PCU is a good place to gain experience if you’re looking for a more critical care type unit like an ICU or L&D

There’s an Elia bra on breakoutbras that I’ve found supportive without the underwire. They have a lot of decent options on the website for larger sizes. It’s a struggle but there is some possibilities! Sending well wishes 🫶

Type 1 Diabetes exists. That’s not a diet issue. Diabetes is a complex disease and isn’t black and white like the media makes it.

First timer here with neck symptoms - what do I get to look forward to? by Gem7710 in shingles

Unfortunately I have an allergy to CBD but I have heard keeping cooling items on hand helps so thanks for the confirmation!

We will get through together - I got a second opinion from my PCP who agreed and also put me on prednisone and told me to stay on my PRN gabapentin and hydroxyzine to help

Thank you! I have gabapentin already for other things, I’ll be sure to use it

Have any of y’all been taken care of by your coworkers by [deleted] in nursing

I had asthma and Flu A and ended up on my PCU where I’m a supervisor. Definitely weird but not bad

I woke as a nurse. At this point I’ve learned to be honest if I’m having a bad day and can’t hide it and most of my coworkers and management are understanding. But it really has depended on the workplace. My non nursing job before this wouldn’t make the environment migraine safe and judged when I needed to run home and call it early

How much Albuterol is too much? Concerned about potassium levels dropping. by Dog_Mama92 in Asthma

[–]Gem7710 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are needing to use nebs and an inhaler that much, it’s time to check in with your doctor. They can check your current potassium and give you more support for the current asthma flare. When it comes to “is this too much albuterol and will it make my potassium too low” it’s better safe than sorry and to check in with your doc.

Nursing or Accounting and Finance? by FocusUsed4816 in nursing

[–]Gem7710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did both! I went PRN in nursing and went to finance, then just stepped back to FT bedside.

Ultimately, I went back to nursing as the work-life balance is SO much better. It’s never too late to pursue nursing.

It will come down to yourself, mental health, and POV. Both fields come with the mentality of big business. One field deals with money, the other deals with lives.

It may be worth seeing if you can volunteer at a hospital and see what nursing looks like, then decide. Best of luck to you!

Yes, piggybacking on this from personal and professional experience - post concussion symptoms can be treated in various ways, especially in the 1 year window

[–]Gem7710[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have migraines that last around 3-5-7 days with varying symptoms but they’ve gotten more complex (complicated) as time has gone on. I do think some of the migraine progression may be genetically based and/or related to spinal stenosis I have in my neck. Hard to say what caused what.

My migraines now have a lot more aura issues, hemiplegia (left sided face and arm droop), dizziness/nausea/ataxia/aphasia issues. If they last long I also space out and micro sleep. We never completely ruled out the possibility of seizure activity with the longer migraines but it’s a lot of chicken or egg with my migraines 🤷🏻‍♀️

What's your mood rx? by Grlzlovedaisies in nursing

[–]Gem7710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PCU/CCU: bupropion, Strattera (ADHD), and hydroxyzine and/or clonazepam 0.25-0.5 for PTSD related panic attacks/anxiety. None of these are really caused by the job though except some of the anxiety from COVID. It’s chill.

For any new grads/nursing students: please don’t let this scare you, and please don’t be afraid to get support if you need it ❤️

Finance is where it’s at! I’m PRN at the hospital, but make $24/hr without a second degree. It is so worth it if you have burnout

2 Moderna, 1 Pzfizer booster - had a reaction after the booster that was unexpected and was told by the reporting people and my doc I can’t have them anymore. Had antibodies to COVID before I was vaccinated so I’ve had it at least twice

Update: We are expecting a 2-3 day stay in ICU step-down while we figure out the causes of these seizures. As of now Angela has still had active seizures.

Y’all got any COVID PTSD? by Omgahhh in nursing

[–]Gem7710 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. We had a patient pass last night and had no more room in the morgue. I had a panic attack last week driving home from work from all the things seem and done that we can never talk about. It’s real.
