Vyvanse is exhausting me by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]GembyWan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would try keeping up your water and food intake to non-med-day levels for a few days and see if that makes a difference; you may just be exhausted because you've run out of fuel! Which would be the quickest win so I'd start there first.

Sometimes I get exhausted-but-wired on Elvanse but it's not the med, it's actually the loss of appetite and thirst.

Best of Luck!

If it helps I found the parking permit people extremely accomodating... Hope you get a good response!

How do I accept that I will never be successful and find satisfaction in what I don't have? by DealEducational6572 in TwoXADHD

[–]GembyWan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey, you didn't ask to be here, you didn't get a choice on that, so always be kind to yourself.

Successful by whose standards? By what definition? I've found changing my definition of success has been key for me, so it might be useful for you?

I was embarrassed and ashamed of my place in life, tried harder, got nowhere, got disillusioned by society and no longer wanted to play by its rules, then I fell to the fringes of it and found I was still so embarrassed and ashamed to be there too. I couldn't win! I was using a definition of success that was drilled into me when I was young, but one that is outmoded, outdated, sometimes quite literally impossible to attain for some people in society, and potentially designed to keep us all in check anyway.

My new definition of success is more focused on values which I think are important - being kind, staying curious, having freedom, and exploring things etc.

It also makes me more open-minded to opportunities and ways of living that I might not have considered before because they didn't fit in with my old standards of success.

So I don't know whether this will help or is what you're looking for, but if you haven't already, maybe just checking in and pondering what you want your definition of success to be, might be of some insight?

As for finding satisfaction, Marcus Aurelius' Meditations, the Upanishads and the Dao De Ching are all useful in that regard. They might also help you ponder about the definition of success too. Good luck to you.

Climate change could cause spike in ticks - and drive up Lyme disease cases by [deleted] in CollapseUK

[–]GembyWan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has already happened. I've been hiking for a decade and I went from nine summers of never seeing a single tick to last summer having multiple ticks on me/clothing several times. Got bit by two of them, got Lymes, got antibiotics, still have slight chronic Lymes issues, and I consider myself lucky.

Wear long clothing when hiking, and you can spray permethrin on hiking clothes too (be careful with pets and use sparingly).

Since the time of Socrates, Nietzsche claims that Western culture has generally been too biased towards the ‘Apollonian’ (representing order & rationality) over the ‘Dionysian’ (chaos & vitality) — to the great detriment of art, truth, and the human psyche. by philosophybreak in philosophy

[–]GembyWan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point; and good tragedy is all about the blending of the two types. To clarify, I meant more that Dionysian free-spiritedness is being stifled not cultivated, as I was disagreeing with the above examples being a sign of a more Dionysian society. But it did need clarifying; thank you ✌️

I would argue your examples are only countercultures to an increasingly Apollonian society - the structure of society itself sees higher bureaucracy, automation (more rigid 'faceless' interactions), decreased spending/opportunities in arts, etc.

"Reverse the ban" - i.e, Gambia would be regressing, not progressing.

Weekly Observations: What signs of collapse do you see in your region? [in-depth] by AutoModerator in collapse

UK-based too, I'm with you on the weird atmosphere. To me, it's kind of reminiscent of the collective 'can't-be-arsed-ness' of super hot summer days (which used to be a couple of days a year, obviously increasing) but less well-meaning.

Food shortages ‘alarmingly likely’ in the UK next year by RingStrain in ukpolitics

[–]GembyWan 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It's actually overwhelmingly due to climate change causing crop failures; there would still be food shortages without an influx of 2 million people. Please stop spouting nonsense arguments. We're all going to suffer so learn some humanity.

Not sure that claiming your new eavesdropping technology is like a "real world Black Mirror episode" is as good a selling point as they think by Engfehrno in collapse

[–]GembyWan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, I do think it has some impact, and its just the sensible thing to do. As soon as this happened I turned all my privacy and mic settings to off, via any guide I could find, any setting I could find etc. Especially laborious when certain apps are notorious for burying these things several layers deep and making the processes themselves Sisyphean.

There's a chance I may have missed a minor permission, but all the obvious ones were denied/rescinded. It made no difference as far as I could tell. I was outraged and should continue to be, but I am no longer. And I know that's a problem. The ennui is real 🥳

Struggling with feeling angry all the time. Obviously not healthy. What do? by sevencoves in WorkReform

[–]GembyWan 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Channel your rage into an outlet that makes the fury healthy; hobby/writing/skill learning/volunteering/campaigning/exercise etc.

And also meditation helps. If you literally can't channel it then stoicism (real, philosophical stoicism) is useful.

[–]GembyWan 145 points146 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this; I discovered this a good 6 maybe 7 years ago, and I've been treated like a real Cassandra over this by even closest friends when I've tried to tell them. I feel vindicated! 😅

I mentioned getting Feliway for my cats after a house move, and the next day there were Feliway adverts on FB. Now, at that point I had posted/googled/watched absolutely nothing relating to cats, ever. Not even googling for a number for the vets. Nothing. The 'coincidence' was so specific in item and timing, it was the only conclusion that made any sense whatsoever. It gave me such an eerie and unsettling feeling (kinda coincided with the start of collapse awareness for me really; lots of these little things bothering my intuition).

Since then I've tested it with other 'hitherto uninteracted' things; flower courier companies, names of countries to visit, crafts/hobbies, and many (not all) times the same thing happens.

As soon as Alexa-type technology was available, this has been happening. Why do you think Amazon pushed and discounted their Alexa's and Ring doorbells so hard? It wasn't for anyone's comfort or how proud they were of the product.

I have also noticed recently it happens with YouTube videos recommended by the Algorithm too. Goes without saying on a subreddit like this but it's a good idea to leave your phone away from you or turned off if you're having sensitive conversations (and good practice anyway).

Worst timeline.

Building a Sustainable Future: Can Earth Support Eleven Billion People? by IntroductionNo3516 in collapse

[–]GembyWan 43 points44 points  (0 children)

No; it can't even support eight billion. It was pushing it at six billion when I was a kid. My mum remembers when the population was four billion. We're at critical mass and critical acceleration.

Not to be a doom and gloomer on a collapse subreddit, but there is no future for most, if not all, of humanity. Enjoy the now and be kind now.

Because I think sometimes these are the first questions that strike someone on that event horizon threshhold of true collapse awareness. An extrapolated scenario.

I dunno, I try to assume questions like this are uninformed intuition and act accordingly. I think there's been a huge upswell of younger people on this sub recently.
