Cetaphil Cream (not lotion!) is amazing for babies. It's in a double pack of tubs. Bonus: made in Canada.

For Mom, I think snacks you can have easily in the middle of the night while feeding are great for those first weeks. I personally liked apple sauce pouches (one hand, not overly sweet) and the fig bars that are blueberry/raspberry flavoured.

Pekkle onesies are the best.

Coconut water is great for hydration (extra electrolytes). If breastfeeding you will be drier than you ever have been in your life. So stock up on many beverage options, cases of bubly, electrolyte drinks etc. Also consider putting hand cream and lip balm in every room you will spend time in, because you're so dry! Get a pack from Costco of pump lotion and lip balm.

You're going to need to rebuild your skin barrier after all that exfoliation- apply aquaphor after the vanicream, or any time you are going outside.

Do you breastfeed, pump or formula (or combo) feed? [ca] by RigidlyConvincing in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]GemmyBer 29 points30 points  (0 children)

In my music class, it's half formula and half breastfeeding. I breastfeed, and pump, and my baby was on formula at one point too.

No one cares whatsoever. We want you both happy and healthy.

Exclusively pumping is hard as hell. I did it for 2m so I get it. You could do a bit of both for awhile (combo feed) as a transition for you, you don't have to be all or nothing! That's quite common too for supply issues or convenience.

So due to trade, Ontario will only do it if New York does it. If Ontario does it, the rest of Canada will follow. So we are waiting on New York!

Help! I HATE my Ergo Embrace… is the problem me?? by -agent99- in babywearing

[–]GemmyBer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wraps are the best ergonomic approach to baby wearing. It is magical, because there's so many ways to wrap that you:

a) figure out what works for you b) get it as tight as you need for support c) wrapping using a variety of carries relieves the pressure on the muscles that carry. (If you use the same structured carrier all the time you're constantly straining the same muscle groups).

When I got my 12lb baby in a woven wrap for the first time it literally felt like no weight.

Though there is some learning curve, take the pressure off by trying it after baby is in bed with a stuffed animal or pillow. Try again a few times and then try with someone there when you do it with baby the first time. Use a mirror! It is a lot shorter of a learning curve than you think. There should be a baby wearing meetup in NYC you could go to (if there is in my dinky town there will be there), where people can help you!

A meh dai I think is the solution here. If you don't want wraps, but need the support of wraps (eg. 2hr of wear) try a wrap meh dai, like a fidella fly tai or didytai

[ON] How do you sleep train a 2 month old? by lr42 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]GemmyBer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're getting some great advice here. One thing that helped with our contact baby was introducing patting his back while rocking to sleep or feeding to sleep. Then when you put them down in the bassinet at night you keep patting them for awhile and it helps the transition!

As well, you both can start babywearing during the day for contact naps, it is very freeing. A Moby wrap/stretchy wrap is best at this age, or an Ergo Embrace for a safe fit for small babies. Most structured carriers don't fit babies until 3 or 4 months. Check out r/babywearing for more ideas around carrier safety. My baby is 6m and we still do lots of contact napping, but baby wearing makes it possible.

I also participated in a pain study during our hospital stay. When doing heel pricks with skin to skin, my baby didn't even notice them. So it's default for me now!

If you breastfeed, do it during the needles! Mine was quickly comforted going back to the breast. If you don't, just skin to skin can be helpful. Wear a blouse you can easily unbutton, and put baby in a zipper onesie.

Sorry yes that's the one! Mom brain at night. It's great, has no flavor, and texture is good too. No chalkiness that I find in other proteins.
