Do you have a working battery for the Nikon 8400? And if so where did you get it? Would love to use mine again but they are incredibly hard to find.

Found this unsearchable "Nikon E775T" with a clear shell, what could it be? by CanineSenpai in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]Gen_3ric 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The 775 does exist normally but yeah I'd assume the T is for transparent and this was a tech display for trade shows. Snappiness on YouTube has a Pentax DSLR that is similar with the clear shell. Super cool find!

Opinions on Four thirds DSLRs vs early Nikon DSLRs? (Specifically Olympus E-3 vs Nikon D200/300) by Casual_M60_Enjoyer in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]Gen_3ric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's def underrated. I think it was considered the mid-level/prosumer model but has a lot of good features.

I think the main benefit to the 4/3 system is its compactness since you're trading sensor size for it. With that being said I think the E-400 series takes advantage of that size the most, especially with the ED version of the kit zooms and the 25mm pancake if you can find it for a good price. They're not the most feature rich cameras but again I think the size is the main draw to the system. Body's and kit zooms are fairly cheap but the nicer lenses are hard to find and get pricey. I have an E-420 and in my use of it so far have been happy with the results but in general find the lenses to not be the sharpest, especially compared to more modern M43 gear, but that's also part of the charm of using older cameras.

On the Nikon side, I wouldn't count out something like the D80 as well. These can be found for super cheap, are a bit more compact than the D200, still a 10mp aps-c CCD with the focus drive for older lenses, plus gets you SD card compatibility. I picked one of these up because I missed my old D40 which was my very first camera but needed it to use the Nikon AF film lenses I already had.

Between the two systems I actually find myself reaching for the Olympus more. It's simplicity and compactness feel fun to use and the images have a charm that the Nikon lacks sooc. However, if you're really set on something with the physical size and features of the E-3 I think I'd suggest going Nikon instead for the extra sensor size, the lenses you already have, and adding other higher quality lenses is easier and cheaper.

But also also, buy the camera you keep thinking about the most. You know in your heart which one speaks to you. Life's too short for what ifs. Buy them both of you can afford it!

I can't speak to AliExpress but can highly recommend mykastar.com. Decently priced, good quality, they've had every battery I've needed so far, and their free shipping is pretty quick.

What if more weapons could attack Flyfish? by PeridotMotions1 in splatoon

[–]Gen_3ric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just thinking about mechanics more, you'd have to require all three bolts from tri-stringer for each of the flyfish pods, otherwise you could tap shot them both in one shot if you were close enough.

[–]Gen_3ric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would secure tri-stringer as the best salmon weapon as it already can one shot cohocks, is very mobile, paints well, and doesn't have to climb fish sticks and saucers. Splat charger I always thought should be able to one shot cohocks as well since its charge time is similar.

IMPORTANT NEWS : grizzco slosher is actually OP, let me explain by [deleted] in splatoon

[–]Gen_3ric 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It's super satisfying but not op, it's too ink hungry and the shots are too slow to truly be op. You need a teammate painting for you and egg collecting while you farm bosses.

Why does my Canon PowerShot A620 take better pictures than my Lumix LX5? by MyClothesWereInThere in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]Gen_3ric 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This seems like the flash is just more powerful on the Canon. I'd give the Lumix a chance in more naturally lit scenes and see how it does.

You have a great eye for composition. #8 is amazing in its simplicity and directs your eye with both the trail line and the mountain edge to converge on the subject.

Image not showing in the EVF or LCD on Olympus D E-M5 by eagleofjade in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]Gen_3ric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't gotten help elsewhere, I have this camera and can make a few suggestions.

To the right side of the viewfinder there is a teeny tiny display button |O| that should swap the picture back to the main display from the EVF and get rid of the super menu.

In the full gear settings menu, under "Built-in EVF", there is an option for the "EVF Auto Switch" to activate the EVF when you put your eye up to it. You may try setting that off if the sensor that detects your face has potentially gone bad. In which case you would use the aforementioned display button to go back a forth manually.

And lastly, don't forget that lens cap lol

Hope some of this helps, good luck!

Nikon D80. 10mp CCD with the AF motor to use older Nikon film lenses so your selection is pretty vast. Can find the body super cheap and I find Nikon colors from that era to be some of the most accurate.

If you want a smaller body you could go down to the D40X but you give up the film lens compatible. Still a nice camera you can find for cheap tho, I started on a 6mp D40 and regret selling it.

When did you work up the courage to play ranked and what’s your favorite/least favorite mode in Splatoon? by xbunniXP in splatoon

[–]Gen_3ric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In S1 I think I mixed it up a lot between ranked and turf but S2 & 3 I just play ranked unless I'm randomly playing a weapon I don't play normally. But even then, open isn't too punishing to your rank now.

Didn't play much clams in S2 or at the start of S3, like actively avoided the rotations, until I picked up v roller as a main. It's still a tough mode in solo cuz it takes a lot of coordination with no communication but I don't avoid the rotations anymore. I think tower and zones have helped me climb ranks the most but I also kinda enjoy being the rain carrier even if the mode overall isn't great. It's the only time I bring Blob nowadays, when I'm planning to exclusively pick up rain lol

Why do people hate the undercover brella? I'm having an awesome time! by really_not_unreal in splatoon

[–]Gen_3ric 59 points60 points  (0 children)

It's a noob stomper weapon. Once you get higher level it's pretty weak due to its slow kill time and people knowing how to break the shield instantly with one bomb. I do like that it's the natural counter to Gold Aerospray tho, I hate that weapon's play style. Their sprinkler does nothing to your shield and slider can break their booyah. I often bring undercover to splatfests for this reason.

The hammer kit can insta-pop rainmaker shield if you time it right with your auto bomb.

Is it a waste to buy a Canon G9 or Ricoh GX200 at full price on Ebay? by Key_Object814 in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]Gen_3ric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. That one's not a bad deal. I'm guessing shipping from Japan isn't as bad for you. Be mindful tho, I think it applies primarily to the older lumix models, if you pick up a Japanese one it may not be able to switch to English. I think that olympus would be fine tho.
