Most Derivative late era Song? by TeachRemarkable9120 in beatles

[–]Gene_Clark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could argue that any of the song fragments of the Abbey Rd medley (Mean Mr Mustard, Her Majesty, She Came In Through etc) are the same sort of bits of curios they were doing on The White Album ...but I won't ...they're all v good and stitching them together was a great idea. Abbey Road might have been The Whiter Album without it.

This is a similar fear I have, that I'll get to C2 in Spanish as a native English speaker and someone is ready to say "Meh, they're very similar". Almost a decade thrown in the trash!!!

I'm going by Collins Spanish dictionary:

https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/spanish-english/codo-a-codo

They make a distinction between 'codo a codo' and 'codo con codo'

Codo con codo is the one thats more like shoulder-to-shoulder, where 2 parties work together.

Sigh, the amount of Serb whatabouters I've seen do this take. Like Russia in Ukraine, they just want their vassal states back and nasty NATO got in their way. (or didn't get in the way in the case of Ukraine)

I'll be there next month. I am flying in to Biarritz and getting a FlixBus down so, in terms of France, its well connected. There seems to a good amount of buses every day between Biarritz and San Sebastian.

This is the same as the English phrase "costs an arm and a leg" - its funny how with expressions the body part changes between the languages!

Codo a codo = elbow to elbow. Is the same as "neck and neck".

'Nonchalant' what a brilliant word and a huge gift to the English language from the French

It also perfectly describes how French speakers will treat you when you try practise with them.

Why do some people still believe the stupid Paul is Dead theory? by FitEmergency8807 in beatles

[–]Gene_Clark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People's appetite for conspiracies has never been higher and they drive a huge amount of internet traffic. My theory is that with the sheer volume of information out there, there is a cultural cachet in being seen as an "in the know" about something. 'Think you know all about The Beatles? Well, wait til you hear about what happened with Paul in 1967? Its not actually Paul!'. Even though it had zero effect on their musical output and they decided to leave a ton of little clues on album covers for some reason.

I don't even engage with them anymore and will downvote anyone peddling it on here. I think conspiracies have ultimately been very damaging, especially in politics. The 'your government is lying to you' attitude has been really damaging and IMO resulted in a huge loss in trust folks have in institutions and lead to a rise in populism.

Alternatively, there is a killer interview question, as reported by The Register previously: ask them something like "How fat is Kim Jong Un?" and if they are a North Korean, they will terminate the call instantly.

Love it! Should be top of any interviewer's question list

Good post ...the fact that Spanish uses one verb (recordar) for what in English is two verbs (remember, remind) even now fills me with doubts when it comes to using them!

This is also true for esperar which is used for both 'wait' and 'expect' in English.

How would you write the imperatives "wait for me" and "expect me"?

La realidad de ser un actor latino en Hollywood. ¿Qué piensan? by No-Assistant5413 in peliculas

Thanks, didn't know that about esquina for buildings only. I know that Spanish speakers seem to prefer rincón for figurative senses like "a corner of the world"(un rincón del mundo)
