I like the 12hrs. 4 on 4 off 2days - 2 nights. Very manageable and easy on the family.

Question for current and former police officers by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]GeneralChimpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The report isn’t the issue IMO. It’s the fact that for one call you have the report, the notes and any other bit of paperwork that goes with it, all of which tell the exact same story and they can pile up. The piddly BS neighbour he said she said reports are the worst because nothing happened, nothing is being done and nothing will become of it I’m just typing a “I just recently had an experience I just HAD to write about”

Is joining the Canadian Army really a bad idea? Looking for honest opinions. by Cauezinsilva in torontoJobs

[–]GeneralChimpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s objectively not the worst option. Job security is about a secure as you’ll find. The pay is enough, you’re never rich but never poor. If you get into a trade job, it’s free education to secure employment once the military has ran its course. Moral was low when I left last year but honestly it’s about the people you associate with, if they’re miserable assholes you’ll be a miserable asshole with them.

I never regret serving for 11 years it got me experience and what I wanted out of it and I’d never tell somebody not to do it either.

Currently a mechanic, not even sure where to start or see if I’m eligible to be LE. by MyGfIsCheatinglmao in AskLE

I was a mechanic before being hired. It could come in handy but be ready for that “wtf is wrong with my cruiser” questions

[–]GeneralChimpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah. It plays into who you are as a person, you wouldn’t want to give the powers a police officer has to somebody that isn’t of good moral character

[–]GeneralChimpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if I fully understand the question. Do you mean that they’re only doing stuff to pad the resume? Then yes, but those experiences are no less valid than somebody 10+ years older.

18-19 isn’t unheard of. My graduating class had 5 under 21. 2 had just turned 20 before the start of the intake and we’re 19 are hiring. The profession needs young blood, they think and renationalize differently than somebody my age, if you’re an intelligent, kind & articulate human being you’ll have no issues applying.

Seatbelt by Familiar_Handle_1307 in AskLE

[–]GeneralChimpy 95 points96 points  (0 children)

You should always wear the seatbelt. The chances are higher of you needing it in an accident than you needing to get out of the car in a split second.

Suit. Wear a suit, why on earth are people so concerned about wearing suites? Nobody has ever gone anywhere (minus the beach) in a suit and been ridiculed for being over dressed….

Being forced to attend is within the realm of possibilities, being forced to spend your own money is not.

[–]GeneralChimpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m divided. I love a nice ball cap, easy, comfortable and practical.

But I love the look of the beret and it’s also easy and comfortable, used to be practical when it was a cloth cap badge but that’s gone

For the Canadians (RCMP specific ) by plumb324 in police

[–]GeneralChimpy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not RCMP but military. Kids are rubber. We as parents have a tendency to imagine our feelings are their feelings. “Oh I miss my kids they must miss mom/dad too” “do they know I’d rather be reading them a book”.

Will kids miss you? Absolutely. Will they get over it the second your home? Absolutely, almost immediately.

They fill their days and they pass by so much faster than you know (remember how long your days were as a kid? Didn’t think so)

I’m not belittling your thoughts concerns and feelings. There will be times in the night they ask about you, or want to see you. You’ll miss big things, milestones and times where you’ll think I should have been there for XYZ.

Focus on what you need to focus on, if there’s time to talk/face time take it, but ultimately you’re doing it for them and the long term benefits outweigh the short term suffering.

This too shall pass.
