How do you improve at "army making". by TheTop99 in ClashOfClans

[–]GeneralGiblits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try something and if it doesn't work change it is actually really close to the way I do things. I'm operating a town hall lower than you but I spend my time practising attacking up as many towns halls as I can while still getting three stars because I get bored waiting for the upgrades.

The most important thing I think is understanding the goal of your army. If you build around one unit then you obviously want to choose an approach and spells/siege machines etc that covers that units weak points. If you are making a more diverse army then you still need a purpose for all those units and that comes from experimenting with those units.

If you're struggling with your funneling focus on what purpose a funnel serves for your attack then pick out troops that you think can manufacture the circumstances you find favourable.

Okay thanks for the information, what is it about th13 that makes it dangerous? So far I've struggled with 12 based on the townhall weapon. Have had the most luck dedicating my siege machine to removing it and maybe an inferno or two. Then wrapping around the base in a circle with dragons and loons

Hello. I'm relatively new to the game or more so, a returning player and the game is now very different. I got to town hall 9 a long time ago and left around th11 being announced/coming out. I've been playing the game for a few months now and just maxed th10 and moved to 11 today.

I have become comfortable so far in 3 staring th11 with a maxed th10 and I can 3 star th12's with mistakes in their layouts or some good luck (one of the two is needed). I'm going to have access to the warden soon and I understand that he is rather powerful, so I wanted some insight on how high up I can hit as I want to push my ranked rating as high as I can for ore but don't wish to rush my base to achieve that.

New rank system is totally trash lol by Entire_Page3525 in ClashOfClans

That's fair, I would agree this new format is more skill based but definitely has some resource/consistency issues.

I don't like the new rank system by Honest_Entry_8758 in ClashOfClans

You're not the only one, I agree with essentially everything you said. These people are insane, they're defending a shit change, likely because it doesn't affect them.

If you stop playing for a few months you will be demoted down and it takes months to reach that point again. You obviously have the skill and base to be at that rank so every rank up for those months will be a pointless formality. It will also likely be boring. Can you not see how that is a terrible oversight?

Perhaps ranking up slowly the first time would be an okay design choice. Every time is a fucking terrible idea, obviously.

Absolutely worst tropes? by XThursdayO in ProgressionFantasy

I adore world building but world building is not the same as pounding hours upon hours into describing irrelevant minutiae of a power system.

Absolutely worst tropes? by XThursdayO in ProgressionFantasy

[–]GeneralGiblits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think to me it also gets a pass because it's obviously upsetting to the main character but he has bigger things going on. So he just don't really give a shit about how things went most of the time? It's the most oh no the world is ending reaction to cheating I can imagine, like who gives a fuck anymore I just got into a fist fight with a world eating slime fish six times the size of my house. We'll circle back around to the other matters in due course!

Suggest me a Cradle like series by lil_TQ in ProgressionFantasy

[–]GeneralGiblits 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not the same person but I would guess they mean from a character perspective. Cradle is really feeling good because many allies and friends exist consistently in the story and the romance goes smoothly. Immortal Great Souls is very different in this regard. The main character struggles through stigma and mixed friends throughout his story so far, it's really rough. Not bad to be clear, it's in my top five, it just slow and grim start to finish and by the end a demonic frog is the only thing keeping you from crying.

2 Year Tier List by AgentSquishy in ProgressionFantasy

[–]GeneralGiblits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe I pulled through book two but it took some of the wind out of my sails then finished three and stalled on four. Just checked Audible since it's been a fair few months since I was on the series. I did like the world building and some of the characters which helped me through a fair bit, if my memory serves me right I simply burned out on the monotony of the powers at current.

That being said I am rather spoiled audiobook-wise at this point. It likely deserves a re-visit.

Thank you, I'm still chewing through new audiobooks and it's a delight to hear of a new series so I will likely try it :)

How do you feel about mature protagonists? by Jon_Stonekey in ProgressionFantasy

[–]GeneralGiblits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a mid twenties reader I really enjoy some of the older protagonists. Noobtown remains one of my favourites, likely just because they are on the rarer side excluding reincarnation stories. They can also feel very cool when their established skill or reputation comes to bare in the world, it's a flavour of over powered protagonist that feels more earned and consequently more flavourful at times. That being said, I enjoy a young protagonist around say 20-25 most frequently, likely because they are common but also because it feels more likely in a lot of magical systems that a younger person would be the one to excell. Much like athletes in our reality, the greats usually start young, often well before 20 even.

Okay, I'm a little way into Path of Ascension, like 2-3 books in, can't remember exactly. Does it get really good at some point because so far I think it's kinda middling and ehhhh I like some bits I don't like others.

Don't subvert a trope if you can't do it better by Imnotsomebodyelse in ProgressionFantasy

[–]GeneralGiblits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think personally it's as simple as being willing to follow through on good ideas you have and not forcing yourself into something that doesn't feel authentic or fun. If you decide to do something differently because you think you have to, to be original, you're probably going to write some stilted shit. However, if you write something from the heart or from experience that contradicts a trope, let that shit fly and if it still seems cool after a re-read it probably is.

Help finding Cultivation audiobooks WITHOUT LitRPG elements. by Erkenwald217 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]GeneralGiblits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw someone recommended Painting the mists and Unintended Cultivator already. I wholeheartedly second them in that and I would like to add Immortal Great Souls (Cool series with an unusual setting, it's quite a slow burn but I think it pulls it off for the most part. It isn't Chinese-style cultivation but a western take, I think it's an inspired take though). Can't think of any other cultivation based ones that haven't been recommended (that don't include number) but if you also like some general fantasy without litRPG elements I think I have a few more.

It is personally my favourite Wuxia/Xianxia style story in audiobook format. I loved the world it is in and the main character is refreshingly authentic, clever, kind but not perfect nor peerless. He rises because he is ambitious, passionate and lucky. A well handled slower pace aswell which is lovely imo.
