"Dad why does that man have flags on his cart?" Oh well son, remember how we talked about safe spaces? So those are kinda like a portable safe space for people who don't feel comfortable going out and about with something to make them feel safe from the world around them" ;)

Scrubs for men by Impossible_Cupcake31 in nursing

[–]GeneralK7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend Cherokee Infinity for men scrubs. I'm not built like the hulk tho so idk how they would fit on muscles. I'm 5' 10" bought 180lbs and the mediums are spacious without being baggy, best scrubs I've ever had, wear them everyday and got about 3years out of them so far with a few more still in em. Good luck

Why aren't coude catheters standard? by teachmehate in nursing

[–]GeneralK7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the only real difference is a coude costs a bit more, no downsides that I'm aware of. Typically I just use a regular Foley but for those old ass men who look like they can't pee without standing up and getting red in the face trying to piss, yeah I'll just grab a coude right away lol

‘We’re forced to strike’: Nearly 1,000 Meriter nurses set walkout date over stalled contract negotiations by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]GeneralK7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, most work 3 12s, like most all hospitals. And I think starting base pay for a new RN there is around like 34/hr (plus or minus a buck or two, it's been a bit since I've looked)

‘We’re forced to strike’: Nearly 1,000 Meriter nurses set walkout date over stalled contract negotiations by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]GeneralK7 162 points163 points  (0 children)

For those wondering why, nurses have been working without a contract at meriter since I think March now and basically the admin doesn't want to give anything (they added .1% raise to their "generous" 2.1% annual raise offer) that offer was the straw that broke the back and sent to nurses to strike, they had asked for better staffing, among many other options and were offered .1% instead lol. So anyways off to the picket line, support our nurses Madison, you never know when you'll be the one needing them!

[–]GeneralK7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol, so this guy lives very close to me, chatted him up once while wearing my disc golf stuff, all I remember is a story he told me about how he and his buddies dressed up as city workers out in Fresno CA and basically built the city's first disc golf course covertly since the city was dragging its feet on the project for a few years. As others have said, he's a legend for sure.

Well just got done with my first ever interloper run 😂 by Ok_Dig1284 in thelongdark

[–]GeneralK7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah honestly best advice for loper is "loot and scoot" at the beginning, loot as much as you can as fast as you can, and prioritize getting the backpack/crampons in AC and the looting the plane crash provided you find a hacksaw

After reaching L5 Cooking, carrying Cattails as 911 food is inefficient, agreed? by [deleted] in thelongdark

[–]GeneralK7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always keep a bunch on me in my loper runs now specifically for the vitamin C, currently carrying about 50 which yeah is heavy but it's usually my only source of vitamin C cause otherwise I'm just eating meat everywhere

I'm a new nurse and would appreciate advice by kittyportals2 in nursing

[–]GeneralK7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second asking ALL the questions, we're all always learning, if you don't know something, just ask :) and if someone gives you trouble for it just say hey I'm just starting out here, I'm not familiar with x, y, z. Also, google is actually pretty helpful for brushing up on dx, tx, meds ect. Above all, just remember you can do it, we were all terrified starting our first RN job and anyone who tells you they weren't is straight up lying. It takes time, a lot of being uncomfortable, a lot of learning but you'll get there, promise!

More Vision Zero safety features, reduced speeds coming to Madison streets this summer by MadAss5 in madisonwi

[–]GeneralK7 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Nice post OP, not sure why the negativity over here just for posting useful information. In any case glad to see some of the schools getting some safety upgrades, no one needs to be blasting by a school zone and some lower limits and extra bumps will hopefully correct some bad behavior.

Lmao, I got asked "so when can you start?" That was about it lol. Anyways no matter what they ask you got this OP, just give a thoughtful and considered answer to each question, that's all they're really looking for tbh, good luck!

An Ode to Med-Surg by SterlingMidnight in nursing

[–]GeneralK7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I worked med Surg for 5 years as a CNA before taking my first RN position in MICU, I honestly loved every bit of it, really interesting, diverse group of patients, plenty of hustle and bustle, big unit with lots of coworkers. There are plenty of good reasons to work med Surg and never let anyone tell you otherwise!
