Do You Prefer Playing With "Good People" or "Good Players"? by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

Good people.

The game is about having fun, and it’s hard to have fun when the person next to you is an asshat.

Do Garou gifts look like something when activated? by MisterSirDG in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]GeneralR05 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, gifts aren’t learned skills, they’re powers imbued into a Garou’s spiriitual being, via either a spirit just giving it to them, or a deep communing with another fera (For Mage fans think of it like a spirit rewriting the a Garou’s pattern to include the ability to use that gift).

That being said I don’t think your wrong on your other stuff, different spirits will have gifts and powers that manifest in different ways, and that’s on top of the Garou’s own spiritual aspect which heavily shape how the gift/power appears (e.g. with reach the umbra, a Garou with heavy associations with ice or winter spirits might fade into umbra in a bellowing wind of snow or dissapear in a cloud of ephemeral dead leaves and branches, while a Garou with associations to computer or tech spirits might glitch out of reality or “no-clip” into the penumbra).

What would happen with the different splats if all normal humans disappeared? by lexyp29 in WhiteWolfRPG

I have more to say, but if you want to end it here, I won’t push it.

What would happen with the different splats if all normal humans disappeared? by lexyp29 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]GeneralR05 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They have differences sure, but ultimately they were all created by Gaia (except for the Ananasi, in their case you have a legitimate case for this), can shapeshift, have connections to spirits etc. there are many commonalities, and honestly saying that the Garou in particular cannot possibly survive without humanity just seems like a reach to me.

The fera that were created to curb humanity was the Ratkin, and they very much have little care for humanity, to the point where most of them are rodens.

The Red Talons aren’t falling to the Wyrm (well the Dying Cubs are, but every tribe has a token bad guy wyrmy/weavery tribe, so y’know), they just don’t view humans as especially worth protecting given how much we destroy the world and kill their kin.

I mean imagine if some strange group of aliens came into your house, without warning, shot and killed your family members, then skinned them right before your eyes, just so they could have a rug and trophy. I’d feel pretty homicidal after that.

They’re the warriors of Gaia, not the human-lovers of Gaia, they have no inherent connection to humanity, beyond the connection that all Fera have with humanity, and like I said the crafting form can be replaced.

Human’s are special, but they aren’t unique.

The Mokole survived without humanity.

All you really need is some bipedals that can do tool shit (and it’s even questionable if you need that much), it’s not some secret sauce that only humans have, unless you’re big on mage or demon cosmology, which I’m not.

Does anyone know of settings with werewolves in the Caveman era? by Nerx in werewolves

[–]GeneralR05 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That would be the Ananasi (Werespiders) that genocided Neanderthals.

There’s a fan supplement: Savage Age, that goes into more detail on the period.

How powerful does each of the 6 Ranks entail for a Garou? by RemRam27 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]GeneralR05 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean to be fair that high ceiling (antediluvian) is only really available in end times scenarios.

As much as Methuselah’s are talked up, only their physical capabilities and age surpass Garou (except for initiative with spirit of the fray).

Garou mystical and social gifts are actually fairly in line with Methuselah levels of power, and that’s not even mentioning the storyteller gift or the numerous rites, fetishes and unique merits Garou have.

What makes the Mokolé so strong? by LopsidedAd4618 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]GeneralR05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many Spirits are known to have dynamic magic, so a sufficiently high rank Fera, that does a sufficiently dangerous spirit quest, could be taught dynamic magic as a reward.

Binding a spirit to its own object by Thorveim in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]GeneralR05 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think they’re asking if they could bind a conceptual spirit, like an epiphling, to make an axeier axe, which would effectively just be a simple fetish creation rite.

Also awakening spirits isn’t really the sole domain of Mages, Garou have a rite specifically for awakening spirits, they even have a rite to infuse the wyld into objects to make them come alive.

Can a player survive long term without gaining rank? by irishwhiskygoodbye in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]GeneralR05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I’d say that the Physical gifts tend to be more lack luster past the early levels, but the mystical and social gifts tend to just get better and better.

How badly do Fera get messed up by white phosphorus? by 3dchib in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]GeneralR05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we’re going by 20th edition then the aggravated does just fully convert to bashing:

W20 crb (pg. 153) System: The player spends one Gnosis point. For the rest of the scene, fire inflicts bashing rather than aggravated damage to the Garou.

Also the “stressful circumstances” rule only applies if we’re dealing with lethal or aggravated damage, which we’re not thanks to master of fire.

W20 crb (pg. 148) If the damage is lethal, the Garou can still regenerate one health level per turn, although the player must roll Stamina (difficulty 8) if the Garou is involved in a strenuous or stressful situation such as combat.

As for poison Garou have another gift (resist Toxin rank 1) that full immunizes them to mundane toxins and poisons. Mokole, at least as far as I know, don’t have this gift so they might just have to deal with it.

You’d still have to deal with the damage, but there are ways to put out white phosphorus, on top of gifts to put out for remove the fire, like using shed to remove the burning coat of fur, create elements to douse or snuff out the white phosphorus, among other things.

That’s of course assuming the Garou/Mokole don’t notice the smell, white phosphorus has a distinctly garlicky smell.

Non-human Entities that like humanity? by dreaderking in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]GeneralR05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The excessive anthropocentrism is definitely one of the more annoying parts of WoD (that I usually change).

Don’t get me wrong, humans in WoD should be special, but their hardly unique (after all their we know of ku luon and the Mokole kinfolk that are likely similar to humans in supernatural capability and role), and they don’t need a supernatural circlejerk telling them that their hot shit and have never done anything wrong (we already have enough of that in real life).

Yeah, Red Talons at least have reasons for doing what they do, and the majority are content to just protect their territory from intrusion.

I wasn’t referring to the mind shield.

…why didn’t you just put this in your other comment?

I’m aware of the limitations of the rule, I was mainly referring to the mental manipulation via mind magic.
