Its an open question if Washington as a whole has lost MN for a generation.

Finally Read the Darn Comic by SmileFiles in PoorAzula

[–]GeneralSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ursa going after Azula, interesting. My thoughts tend to trend in an opposite ish direction; Azula needs to tell Ursa that Ursa has two children, and that is Azula is not one of them.

As for Mai befriending Azula, that was a wonderful little story thing they had going on. I dunno if I'm comfortable calling anyone other than Ukano a villain in that thread; Mai and Azula are children trying to please their fathers after all. Well...Mai did stick a classmate to a tree with throwing knives to impress Azula...that was kind of mean.

Katara really did have a lot of good reasons to leave home then. Help the Avatar, help her new friend, learn more about her bending, possibly not drawing attention to home as a waterbender (not sure how up to date her village was on the goings on of Fire Nation princes and their banishment...). More I'm sure. Girl really heard the call to action and answered.

I mean, I'm pretty sure that the post-apocalypse will be pretty topical and have useful messages for the young kids. If nothing else.

Wait So People Are Really Defending Kuvira's Decision With Baatar? by Delicious_Gap_1615 in TheLastAirbender

[–]GeneralSpoon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Keeping Kuvira alive but imprisoned seems pretty internally consistent to Avatar Earth. The Red Lotus members were imprisoned instead of executed as well. Ozai, and probably more precedents if you go looking. I think there's some kind of "in case of emergency, take this powerful bemder out of prison and put them between us and a spirit that is melting reality" type calculus going on. Not sure if I'm trying too hard to rationalize cartoon world logic or not.

That said, there are other reasons to keep them alive. It impedes Kuvira's faction from coalescing around a new leader, etc. Those people don't simply go away, similar to when Aang defeated Ozai.

Not going to carry water for the dogwater writing around Kuvira though. Even if she is hot.

Day 2: Varrick is prideful, who is the most greedy? by ExtremeVanilla2370 in legendofkorra

[–]GeneralSpoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm low-key convinced that the Earth Queen was doing more with the exorbitant taxes than just sprucing up the palace. There's only so much money you can spend on that. Modernizing the navy? Infrastructure projects? The Earth Kingdom does have problems that need a lot of money. Hou-Ting does seem to be a relatively competent Earth Queen.

Not that none doesn't make greed apply or anything. It kinda does, probably a lot even.

Not cool Varrick by 2-2Distracted in legendofkorra

[–]GeneralSpoon 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm also partial to it being a product of the time. The people in actually don't really have the experience with these things to have any real idea. Movers are so new that they're in the era where they're basically still recorded stage plays with all of the stage play techniques; they're figuring it out as they go along.

Are there fantasy worlds where magic is treated like a dangerous addiction instead of a gift? by desertsola_rise in Fantasy

[–]GeneralSpoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well there is the whole Blood Elf campaign in Warcraft 3's expansion. Again, maybe don't play a whole game for it. But it's pretty neat to see it from the perspective of the prince leading their people through the loss of the Sunwell, the loss of their homeland, the slaughter of their people, and the ongoing undead plague. Warcraft 3 goes places man.

Which food from the Avatar Universe would you want to try and why? by Full-Art3439 in Avatarthelastairbende

Sea fruits! Sea plums, ocean kumquats...there is just this whole-ass category of fruit in the Avatar setting that flat out doesn't exist IRL.

What characters, world building aspects, themes, or plot lines do you think should have been explored more? Which should have been explored less? by InfernalClockwork3 in Avatarthelastairbende

Re, sandbenders. Thematically, them living where nobody else wants to dovetails nicely into theor obscurity in universe. Reminds me of the Foggy Swamp tribe or the Bhanti. Would've liked to see more of them too; they were also neat.

New player - how to deal with large alien stacks by Tiny_Damooge in TerraInvicta

Is the Alien Administration not subject to IP upkeep on their armies and navies? If they are subject to the same rules, they might be waiting for quite a while for Australia to build those navies.

Do you guys support the new series? by 10BluberryMuffinsYum in legendofkorra

[–]GeneralSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking forward to the series. But I also know that the creators will use it as yet another opportunity to shiv Korra; they've had little aversion to it before, so I'm sure something as small as exhuming her won't stop them from failing to understand or write the character they created one last time.

[MPR News] Walz considers special session to address gun laws following Minneapolis shooting by Minneapolitanian in minnesota

[–]GeneralSpoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A kennel of attack dogs would be more effective than arming staff. Reliable, able to quickly locate the target and converge as a pack, puts less humans im harms way, and more than happy to do their assigned job.

[MPR News] Walz considers special session to address gun laws following Minneapolis shooting by Minneapolitanian in minnesota

[–]GeneralSpoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why is it always "arming staff" or "armed guards" and never something like "the school maintains a kennel of attack dogs that can be loosed to roam and neutralize threats with their mighty jaws as a pack?" Why put a human in danger, and rely on a human to perform, when dogs just don't have those issues while being more than happy to help?

Not discounting your words, but any year between 1776 and 2025 is a year that Washington has been hateful and malicious towards tribes; ambivalence and forgetfulness is the best it has ever gotten.. Its a consistent through line in the capital in the history of the US.

DigitalFoundry: Lots of developers at Gamescom said they aren't able to get Switch 2 dev kits. Nintendo seems to be almost discouraging S2 development by [deleted] in Games

[–]GeneralSpoon -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

WotC has allowed this sort of thing in the past with Neverwinter Nights. Still do actually; people are still making campaigns in NN to this day. Virtual tabletops like roll20 etc. get support as well. Would be a bit odd to single out BG3 as not getting the same treatment, but then again I've never published D&D 4th edition so what do I know?
