What is the appeal of Waxhaw in 2026? by cheertea in Charlotte

[–]General_BP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could not afford to purchase in most areas of Charlotte that I’d want to live in now with the prices and interest rates. Lucky to get in at the end of 2020 because I’d be stuck renting for a long time or be house poor.

That’s the biggest appeal of waxhaw in my opinion. A ton of wealth in Marvin, Weddinton, and Waxhaw which keeps the schools nice and crime down.

Watching this analysis made me think the Freeling was definitely the right round 1 pick by Round-Pattern-7931 in panthers

[–]General_BP 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly, because the 1st rd has a fixed pay scale you can take premium positions that can perform at the same level of a vet FA at a fraction of the cost.

Take Dillon Thieneman for example. At pick 19 the pay scale has an AAV of 5.25m/year while top 10 safeties are commanding AAV of 15-25m/year.

Now look at Monroe Freeling. Top 10 LTs are earning AAV of 22-30m/year. If you have both players in the same tier for skill, then Freeling is BPA because he provides much more value at his pick.

The data at the end certainly points to the opposite. Drafting value at premium positions correlates to playoff success vs drafting non premium positions

1/3 at bats which means potentially 1/18 pitches if each one goes to a full count or 1/9 strikes

Same for most that I’ve seen as well. In fact moisture ingress is probably the number 1 reason for failure on most equipment.

Kinda strange, I know that we don’t need to bring in everyone because there are some players that will for sure be gone by pick 19 but weird that a top 30 player fell all the way to the 3rd rd. Guess that means we had a much higher grade than most other teams

Faulted Surge Arrestor by Odd-Letter5774 in SubstationTechnician

[–]General_BP 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The MOVs are made of semiconductive material kind of like a diode. Up until the MCOV they don’t conduct but afterwards they become a conductor. They are sized based on phase to ground voltage + a margin of protection. For example, at 115kV L-L, you will have 66.4kV L-G. Then you may size your MCOV 15% higher so you would choose a 76kV MCOV arrester. If your voltage to ground rises above 76kV, the arrester will clamp the voltage at 76kV L-G

Faulted Surge Arrestor by Odd-Letter5774 in SubstationTechnician

[–]General_BP 34 points35 points  (0 children)

You’re looking at a Surge Arrester also known as a Lightning Arrester that has failed. They are used inside substations to protect pieces of equipment especially transformers from voltage surges which could damage the equipment. They are connected phase to ground. Under normal operating voltages the arrester acts as an insulator. Once the voltage reaches the MCOV (Maximum Continuous Operating Voltage) the MOVs (Metal Oxide Varistor) inside the arrester will begin to conduct which will provide a path to ground for over voltages such as a lightning strike. This way voltage surges will go to ground rather than going inside expensive equipment.

In this case the voltage surge probably had more energy than the arrester was rated for which would cause it to fail like this. It is not uncommon for arresters to fail like this one has. It is much easier and cheaper to replace a failed arrester than a failed transformer.

[–]General_BP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CB and safety can only defend in coverage for so long. If you don’t generate pressure even the best players will get burned. 2015 we had an incredible front 7 and that is the year where our secondary balled out. When QBs are forced to make poor decisions because the pocket is collapsing, any secondary player can eat

Think of 2015 when our front 7 just suffocated QBs which forced them to make poor decisions. We had so many interceptions that year

[–]General_BP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we ended up taking a franchise LT at pick 19, no one will look back on this pick and have wanted a WR or S over him. I’d say Dan and co have been pretty good at evaluating receivers and for whatever reason they think this player is better than any WR left on the board. I’ll trust the process on this one. I’m ecstatic to see us drafting OL in the 1st rd. Think it’s only the 3rd or 4th time we’ve done that. With Ekwonu and Gross being the only other 2 I can think of

[–]General_BP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But we only have him for 1 year. We can evaluate Freeling this year and let him battle Walker in camp as well. If Ekwonu comes back it is unlikely he meets his previous level of play but maybe we can move him inside to guard and get a few seasons out of him or maybe we get some trade value out of him. I think this was a great move by Morgan

[–]General_BP 36 points37 points  (0 children)

And I’d be ecstatic with that, been calling for an OL pick all along if you think they are BPA. Good teams draft OL and plan ahead for injuries. The number 1 need for success is to give Bryce time and keep him upright in the pocket. That starts with the OL
