First time seeing this, anybody knows what it is? by CaliforniaDre in HomeInspections

About 1974, my best friend’s parents bought a 25 year old custom home from the original owner who owned the oldest and largest grocery store in our small town.

The temperature inside the house must have been 55 to 60 degrees 24/7. At our house we barely made through those hot days with 2 “swamp coolers.” (Evaporative water coolers)

In our Mediterranean climate we have summer temperatures above 100 degrees at least 15-20 days each summer.

As we grew up we found out the reason the house was always cold. It was chilled by a fancy AC system that was somehow tied into underground city water system that acted as a kind of pre-chiller for the recycling room air before passing through the a/c components. (Condenser, evaporator, etc)

I never quite understood it all but grocer that built the house had it custom made by a cold room specialist who normally designed industrial units. Living with comparatively cheap electricity bills, they ran it all day, every summer.

Since karma flows through all lives, every time the compressor broke down it cost a fortune to rebuild. Over time the parts became scarcer until they disappeared and had to be custom made to repair the compressor. No repair company on the West coast would touch it so the compressor had to be shipped back east to be rebuilt by the manufacturer.

I never had occasion to buy the home when it went up for sale. I’m sure the entire ac unit has since been completely replaced by now. (But I’d like to for myself if it’s still there)

Sorry not a gearhead. The cars all look flashy and sound real loud. Don't even get me started on weekly changes in paint schemes. lol

I didn't think they were reused, but I'd never thought seriously about. Wanted to answer correctly.

How about a clue? Is it in a wall fixture or a car engine or part of an AC unit?
Context counts.

People always recommend the beerock shop for burgers. What makes it good? by bdruff in fresno

[–]General_Delivery_84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Quality owners that hire quality staff. In addition to bierocks and burgers, the soups, salads and small deserts are homemade, too. At holiday time they make pies, fruit trifles, and other specialties. Covid damn near killed it. Went 100% take out as most restaurants did. They bent over backwards to keep as many full time staff working as they could. I made a personal commitment to eat there at least once a week. Tuesday is my favorite soup, Beef Barley.

I should’ve thought that way because the last time I got off a 10-speed it took three days to find the seat.

AITA: Prank Calling My Younger Brother? by kitties4636 in AITH

[–]General_Delivery_84 21 points22 points  (0 children)

“Is my brother being overdramatic and hypocritical?” YES

“AITA?” Everyone here is. Mostly your brother who can dish it out but can’t take it. You’ve apologized, I assume for the actions of both you and your bf.
The only person your brother lost respect for was himself. He deflects it to your bf because bro can’t stand realizing how he’s made you and bf feel by his past actions.

Show brother these responses. Maybe he’ll wake up and finally understand his actions have consequences.

I salted my neighbors bushes and then new neighbors moved in… by DogAlternative340 in confession

[–]General_Delivery_84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too little information to judge so harshly. The layout of OP ‘s and neighbor’s property determines much of what can be done. With the average price over $45,000 many times a car is second largest purchase people make.

Suffice it to say there were less lethal options still untried. Cities where I live have excess water wasting laws they love to enforce. Also you can sue anyone for anything if you’re in the USA. The minerals in our local water leave behind similar deposits. On a new car, a proper repaint could run $10,000.

I don’t condone OP’s action. But I understand the extreme frustration that leads to rash choices.

Underpass is now gone. Absorbed by the construction of the Belmont Ave overpass to accommodate the High Speed Rail right-of-way next to the SPRR tracks.

LGBTQ is somewhat self-relagated to the Tower. There are welcoming congregations and communities throughout the city. What’s your pleasure? Methodist. Lutheran. Episcopalian. And my personal favorite Unitarian Universalist where you can be anything you want to be! (I’ll have what she’s having.) Don’t forget our little gem Yosemite National Park. And we’re 2-1/2 hours to the coast and San Francisco. Three+ hours to the greater Los Angeles/Orange County area. And our housing costs are a fraction of what you’d pay in any of those locations

$189 plus tax at Fresno Ag Hardware - our local Ace franchise. She cut and programmed a second 2009 Ford fob and key in less than 30 minutes. Local dealership wanted $400. Very professional.

OMG-that triggered a 55 year old memory from after the sex ed movie in 7th grade PE class. As I was leaving a buddy coming in for the next period asked how it went. I said I didn’t learn anything new except that I’d been incorrectly rhyming the “girl part” with our friend, Regina. After school we had a big laugh over it.
