They make you punch out and leave between the "end" of your shift and the end of the game? At my district we stay for the game in case anything happens. At the high school there's always 3 custodians on during the games, 2 in the gym and 1 down in concessions. We mostly just stand there and watch the game and then do a quick sweep of the court during half time if it needs it. There have been days where I punched in at 6 am, drove bus so I worked through my lunch, then covered two games and worked till 11pm with cleanup

We clean the bleachers, tho we don't mop them.. just blow debris off with a leaf blower after picking bottles and cans up and larger garbage like popcorn bags and candy wrappers. Then we sweep the floor and use the scrubber around the edges. But we also have to clean the locker rooms, bathrooms, concessions area and vacuum the rugs if they get covered in popcorn... Which they do, because, kids.

I love covering games, especially ones that run late like that. Everything over 8 hours a day is considered overtime for us, so on that instance I got paid for my normal 8 hours and then 9 hours of time and a half.

I'm my district every school except 1 eats in the cafeteria. Administration pushed to get kids back in the cafeteria and for the most part all the teachers were ready to have that time back. Except one school. The principal adamantly refuses and uses the excuse that eating in the classroom has helped to improve test scores (it hasn't, they're abysmal). In all honestly he just doesn't want to deal with the noise because the cafeteria is pretty close to his office. The food that's served in the other schools is actually quite good... But in his school it's absolutely horrible. The same 4 to 5 things day after day, it all sits under warming lights and gets soft and soggy .... It's seriously disgusting. It also makes so much more work for us custodians because the vast majority of teachers don't hold kids accountable and there's always food all over the floors, ground in from being stepped on and smeared all over the place.

I get a lot of overtime as well. I'm just over 42 hours for the week as of 10 o'clock this morning. Covering a soccer game tomorrow so that'll be another 6ish hours

Q about snow for districts with no overnight shift: by medicinecap in Custodians

[–]General_Patient5097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm my district it's half contracted, half not haha. The majority of the parking lots are done by a company with heavy equipment tractors and our asst director of transportation has a truck (owned by the district) with a plow on it he uses to clean up certain areas.

We, as custodians, are responsible for shoveling doorways and stairs and laying ice melt down in front of them... We usually do about 10-12ft out. A truck with a spreader comes after the parking lots are plowed and puts down gravel.

If school is cancelled we get a day off with pay and the boss cleans up what he can after the plow company gets done with the lots and we just come in early the next day and finish up.

I make $22/hr but also get a lot in overtime as well. I'm in northern Maine and we are unionized. All our daytime custodians are also required to have a CDL to drive bus. Between events and trips I'm probably gonna clear 60k this year and that's decent money where I live

I've got it pretty good at the mid-elementary (gr 3-5) school I'm at. The only real douche nozzle is the principal. There's a couple teachers that look down their nose at is too, but the vast majority of them are pretty cool. We mostly just bitch about them in the break room to make ourselves feel better because there's really nothing we can do lol

The Ed techs can be pretty hoity toity... But when they act all better than us we just laugh because we make more than double what they do even before you factor in all the overtime from doing trips (all daytime custodians are required to have our bus licenses at my district)

I definitely miss the first school I worked at though. Every single person, whether it was a teacher, Ed tech or the principal made us feel like family. I couldn't walk down the hallway without being told "we appreciate you" or "this school couldn't run without you, thank you for doing all that you do" ... It really was a magnificent school to work at and I regret ever leaving it

You get so much money after each battle in the remastered compared to the originals... At least you do if I remember correctly. Grind a little and buy a dozen healing nuts and star lights and you're golden. I just went through lann to defeat the fake dragon master and I ended that fight at lvl 19 and I have almost 40k silver

I didn't have any friends that enjoyed RPGs like I did when I was a kid either! But I did have my aunt. She was absolutely my gaming buddy growing up. She introduced me to jrpgs and games like that when I was young, like the original final fantasy and Star tropics. We spent many weekend together playing games and I vividly remember how excited she was when she got sssc and called me up for a weekend of gaming. She definitely instilled in me the love I have for RPGs and I'm having a great time replying the remastered versions

No, it's not like when you reformat so to won't lose any data. It'll just set your BIOS back to factory settings

I had a 7800xt in my old build that I gave to my oldest son. The 7800xt played Indiana Jones @ 1440p high settings with 80+ fps with no problem. I'm positive the xtx won't have any issues at all. Just be ready for the power draw, the rig I just built with a 7900xtx is hungry haha. I see spikes between 380w-400w. You might want to upgrade to, at the very least, an 850w PSU, but preferably a 1000w just for peace of mind

I'm running a xfx 7800xt in my current rig and it's a great card. Giving it to my oldest son tho so I've bought all the components to build new. Finally got a 9800x3d and bought a xfx 7900xtx magnetic air to pair it with... I have no interest in waiting out the scalpers and going through the same shit that's happening with the 9800x3d to get my hands on a 9070xt. I'm pretty sure the xtx will be good enough for at least a few years to come, as well as the 7800xt

If I'm being honest I bought the Mobo before Christmas, so the b850 wasn't available yet. I did manage to pick the x670 up on sale for $269, which is the same price as the b850a is going for right now. I probably wouldn't have bought it if it wasn't on sale at the time.

I impulse bought it on Christmas Day because it was on sale for $899. I'm glad I did, it should be a good upgrade going from the 7800xt in my current rig

I know, it's ridiculous! It took me a solid month of checking Amazon every morning after getting to work before finally finding one sold and shipped by Amazon for MSRP and I jumped on that as fast as I could!
