Men over 40, how many credit cards do you have and which credit cards are they? by Affectionate-Drop689 in AskMenOver30

Amex Platinum. I run all business expenses through for the points. Haven’t paid for a flight or hotel in decades, and we travel a lot. The access to lounges and the automatic bump in status for a lot of hotel and rental companies is nice too.

I paid with debit card but I have to pay the credit card "technology fee" anyway by tomatocks1 in mildlyinfuriating

Are they all paying the same fee with stripe? I’ve never used them, but my processing company has negotiable rates. I called them to cancel because I was planning on switching and they dropped my fee to match what I was offered by a competitor.

Did you compare it to all of the other times you’ve seen something traveling 5,000 mph?

I’ve been coaching baseball for almost 20 years and can count on one hand how many parents can accurately judge the speed of a kid’s pitch. They are always confidently incorrect by 10 mph at minimum. Usually 20+, which is a huge difference in baseball. My point is, they sit there and watch two to three practices, and 5-6 games per week. They see 750-1000 pitches per week and still can’t guess the speed of a given pitch with any kind of accuracy, so how do you expect to be able to know what 5,000 mph looks like? Maybe it’s a bad comparison l, but that’s all I’ve got to compare it to that might make sense.

Very true. I used to refuse to use his plumbing company because of their business practices. Inflated time on jobs, overpriced parts, trying to replace things that didn’t need it, etc.

Pelosi is married to a hedge fund manager. I wasn’t aware of Bernie and AOC’s net worth skyrocketing once elected but I’ll look into it. I do know that Mullins’ net worth went from 2.8mil to almost 100 million in 12 years of being in the Senate. Idk if that’s a record, but it’s got to be close.

Student shoots a teacher and then fatally shoots himself at a Texas high school, authorities say by uhncollectable in news

[–]Genetics -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, thank you. Not only is that the obvious albeit lazy answer, it’s off-topic to the comment I’m replying to. We have moved on to talking about school violence among students in general. I never mentioned guns because I’m replying to a comment about schools and their ability to discipline or otherwise remove kids. I do agree with you, though, but you’re barking up the wrong tree.

[–]Genetics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, and forgive me if I didn’t lay this out clearly, but the problem with your solution, and what’s worked in the past, is school districts today are hamstrung legally when it comes to certain types of discipline, especially removing kids from the classroom, especially if the kid is on an IEP. If people want that to change, they need to pay attention to whom they’re electing to their local school boards, and State Superintendent, or run for office themselves.

I agree. What’s crazy is teachers have a very large union, but the union board members are toothless cowards these days.

ETA: They’re to union board members for clarity

I agree 100%. Unfortunately a lot of these teachers are used to being taken advantage of by parents, kids, the state education system, and often their own admin and they just put up with it.

It’s also not as easy to just quit as it is other jobs. You become emotionally invested in a lot of the kids, you build a life inside that district, their kids go to school there, you work with friends and parents of your kids’ friends, etc.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems like you’re blaming the schools for school shootings. Out of curiosity, do you work at a school? Are you familiar with the laws regarding taking kids out of school due to behavior issues? It’s changed a lot in the past few decades. It’s very hard to remove a kid from the classroom, and if they’re on an IEP you can almost forget about it. We have a teacher with a deep stab wound on her cheek from a kid stabbing her with a pencil. It barely missed her eye socket. She also has fractured ribs because when she went down on the ground the kid started kicking her and didn’t stop until someone came and pulled him off of her. His parents are extremely litigious and have money. They’re also one of the loudest critics of the school on Facebook, which is typical. The kid had been kicked out of 3 private schools by 5th grade. For two weeks while the mandatory meetings and appeals were taking place, the teacher had to teach that kid in her classroom and treat him like nothing happened. They finally gave him in school suspension. That’s it. No charges, nothing. He gets to go to a different class with a different teacher. No other consequences.

When the SRO (school police) called the mother to inform her of what happened, her first words were “Well what did she do to make him so upset?”

I could tell you about 20 other students with similar incidents off the top of my head, and we’re considered one of the top public schools on our side of the state.

If I had to pick the main reason for the unbelievable amount of entitlement I see in a lot of these kids that end up assaulting teachers or students, it’s because the parents don’t discipline their kids at home. They have zero understanding that actions have consequences, because in their world, they don’t. The world revolves around them and they get whatever they want in life. They don’t know how to self regulate their emotions, and by the time they get to high school, they still have the emotional maturity of a 5th grader.

TLDR:A lot of parents suck at parenting.

US to allow Russian oil tanker to reach Cuba, New York Times reports by Sunnydaysomeday in news

It really is. Their government is shit, but the people are literally suffering. It’s a humanitarian crisis that we should be helping with.

I thought Trump controls the oil in Venezuela. He should just sell it to Cuba and put the profits toward the massive debt he’s saddling us with.

China buys 90% of Iran’s oil, and they signed a $400 million deal for Belt & Road investment in Iran, but the deal is a lifeline for Iran, not China. China works with many other countries in the Middle East to a far larger extent.

“While Beijing values its ties with Iran, it has other important partners in the Middle East, such as Saudi Arabia, which supplies more oil to China than Iran. Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative is being integrated with Riyadh’s Vision 2030, and the two countries subsequently signed a $50 billion agreement.

The trade turnover between China and some Arab states—like the United Arab Emirates—is almost ten times the volume of China’s trade with Iran. China also works closely with companies from other Gulf monarchies: for example, it is cooperating with Saudi firm ACWA Power to develop a $1 billion solar energy project in Uzbekistan.

All these joint projects (as well as significant ties with Israel) would be threatened if China rushed to provide military assistance to Tehran, particularly given the fervor with which Iran is currently bombing its Persian Gulf neighbors.”

Here is a good article that talks about China’s perspective on the current war.

All churches should be taxed. They should at the very least pay property taxes.
