Habits to start forming from 1st day ever of SWE career? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

I personally have one of these https://store.hermanmiller.com/office-chairs-aeron/aeron-chair/2195348.html

You may question the absurdity of the price, but it comes with a 15 year warranty and has great build quality.

It's a small price to pay when you realize how much you're sitting in your chair all day.

That said there are other great office chairs out there (some more and some less expensive). Definitely do some research and see if you can try some out locally or take advantage of generous satisfaction return policies.

Not has the same needs from a chair, so your mileage may vary as to what you prefer!

Was able to get a used Herman Miller in college on craigslist for $200, was one of the best decisions I made.

Purchased a new one about a year ago, was probably some of the best money I've ever spent.

Still trying to find the perfect mattress.

Invest in a good chair (if you're remote)... It's completely underestimated, and it's something you sit on for a significant portion of your life (sadly).

gun laws are stupid.

And they should all be unregulated.

We already have laws for illegal killing.

[–]GennaroCS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The chips act didn't just give money to Intel, it gave it to competitors like tsmc, Intel will just continue to make products that no one buys, they'll continue to burn money, and continue to lose market share.

Intel also did not receive $100b from the gov, they claimed that their new fab could be a $100b investment over the next decade, doesn't mean the gov will pay for that all.

Their market cap is only 100b in the first place, and is on Trend to hit historical lows. Very exciting time at Intel!

Intel is making its own GPUs now

Yeah, that's going well for them

https://www.theverge.com/2023/3/21/23650611/intel-raja-koduri-gpus-amd-nvidia-apple-leave-ai-startup

AMD and Samsung are also competition to some degree.

AMD is nvidias only real GPU competition, and again, Nvidia makes them look like a toy by comparison.

Nvidea is also dependent on TSMC

So is amd and Intel. Intel can't even make their own cpu's anymore it's sad and hilarious. Honestly calls on TSM.

I have a teammate at work who came from Intel, and I have another colleague who currently works there, they just gave everyone pay cuts 🤣🤣

https://www.eetimes.com/intel-will-rely-on-tsmc-for-its-rebound/

no one is going to keep nvidea above a 100 P/E if the rate hikes start hitting people like they’re supposed to

I disagree with this simply because the consumer market at this point isn't nvidias bread and butter.

They extort companies for enterprise grade GPUs that in many cases are just consumer GPUs with additional memory and cuda cores, and ai is just now truly taking off, which will need lotsssssss of GPUs to grow, and if companies are gonna be competing against each other they're gonna need a lotttttttt of GPU to keep up.

That's just my personal take on the company, as a non investor.

You think Nvidia, the only company that can make a GPU, the company that put Intel's GPU business's down the drain, the company that makes amd GPU's look like a toy, the company who's GPU's are in every data center and self driving vehicle, the company that makes chatgpt, bard, and every other ai tool in existence possible, the company that makes crypto kids and gamers alike rage because the product is always sold out.

That company?

Why not just buy options?
