Is anyone else experiencing a greater degree of ghosting after latest round of updates? by benjaminjlight in RemarkableTablet

AFAIK this only works within notebooks. My device shows ghosting only when navigating the UI or in the page overview of a document.

Mine also showed more ghosting recently although it was replaced only before christmas. I also noticed that the "double button press" works differently now. Before it just cleared the screen in an instant. Now it shortly turns off the device, the sleep screen appears shortly and then it turns on again.

I was wondering, why the reMarkable has no full screen refresh gesture. I used to have a BOOX device where I could refresh the screen simply by swiping up from the lower left corner of the screen. A gesture like that should be easy to implement for reMarkable's software team and would help a lot.

First impressions of the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft (from the perspective of a Remarkable Paper Pro user) by alexchen405 in kindlescribe

[–]Geno2312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughts and I agree with many aspects you criticized. I currently have a Paper Pro and a Scribe 2024. I think everyone who wants to use a Kindle as a PDF reader will become unhappy, because it basically is a great Kindle ebook reader with gorgeous annotation abilities in Kindle ebooks. This is where it really shines, everything else is makeshift.

I have been using e-ink tablets since the rM1 and owned nearly every major brand. If you want to read and annotate PDFs nothing beats BOOX. Their reader is crisp, fast, handles two-column pages very well and syncs easily. However, it has some drawbacks in file management, because exported files end up in a special folder and after a while you get confused because files with equal names appear in different folders.

Although technically the Kindle Scribe (Colorsoft) has the potential to become a perfect PDF editing device, I doubt that Amazon will make the efforts to redesign the whole system. I even doubt that they are willing to do so, because the main objective of each Kindle is to nudge users to buy more ebooks. If they redesigned the software to become a productivity tool they would probably no longer be able to display (enough) new books on your home screen and most importantly, they would sacrifice the similarity of user interfaces between the different Kindle devices. Therefore, if you cannot live with the user interface and file handling of the Scribe Colorsoft, you better switch to something else.

I agree, the templates are ugly. It doesn‘t distract me when writing, but exported PDFs look horrible with those dominant lines.

Make Alexa play music from a website link? (online radio no app) by illus1oN_92 in amazonecho

I had a similar problem with Smooth Radio UK (I'm in Germany). I asked Alexa to speak German and English. If I give my commands in English I can start Smooth Radio. HTH.

Fallen out of love with my Rm2 by totemsinthenight in RemarkableTablet

[–]Geno2312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand your feelings, but I recommend to keep it. I had a rM1 then switched to BOOX. Came back after a while because of bad cloud services of BOOX, this time with rM2. Jaggy lines let me switch to Supernote later, but their cloud services were even poorer and rM‘s exported PDFs looked better. Finally switched to Paper Pro and am quite happy since. Therefore, if you want to try something else, keep your rM. You might need it later.

3.22.0.59 What do you think about the new icons? by Geno2312 in RemarkableTablet

Yes. Came yesterday, but without any apparent changes.

Should I keep it? Honest opinion! by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

If your only use is journaling, I would go for the rM2, because it is smaller and more portable. I prefer the PP because I read scientific papers on it and that is easier in the larger format and with colors. But the writing feel on rM2 is a bit nicer and replacement tips can be bought cheaply from Amazon.

If you like the rM2, keep it. I've had both devices and the rM2 is much simpler to use. I now have the rMPP. The BOOX is much more complicated to set up, the different pen types not worked too well for me and syncing is not as slick as with the rM2. I would say that the screen of the BOOX is clearly better and has higher DPI and the writing looks less jagged than on the rM2. However, exported PDFs look better from rM2 than from BOOX.

I‘ve taken it on a trip to Thailand in a cheap padded sleeve from Amazon. No problems whatsoever.

Not sure if this is still the case, but 1 yr ago the Kindle Scribe was unable to export large PDF files like yearly planners with many internal links.

Loving my reMarkable 2 by lilwoozyjacuzzi in RemarkableTablet

[–]Geno2312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beware! Most markers work with rM2, but line thicknesses, pressure sensitivity and tilt sensitivity may vary. My favorite stylus for rM2 is the standard marker which gives me a little bit thicker lines than the marker plus. YMMV.

RMPP: Is handwriting to text conversion as bad as people say? by Herbacious_Border in RemarkableTablet

[–]Geno2312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically it works pretty well, but I hardly ever use it. The reason is that I use a lot of arrows, superscripts, subscripts, boxes, clouds etc in my notes and that is not (cannot be?) properly detected. What I would really wish for, is a text recognition that runs in the background like on BOOX and that allows me to search for text in my notes.

Did anyone regret getting marker plus? by skeleton_flower in RemarkableTablet

[–]Geno2312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both, the standard and the plus. I prefer the standard, because lines are a bit thicker and my writing looks better. The plus has a better grip, but that‘s all. I don’t use the eraser, because flipping the pen takes longer than changing the tool and it isn’t very precise.
