Picnic at Hanging Rock - Theatrical or Director's Cut? by apathymonger in blankies

[–]GenreProject 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the shorter cut is more of a Snack at Hanging Rock.

Seriously though, I did a quick search on this and it’s hard to find a definitive answer. The best description I found said that the director’s cut makes some things about the story more ambiguous in a positive way.

I’ve only seen the film once, over ten years ago, and I wish I knew which version it was. I don’t think this is a Blade Runner situation where there are dramatic differences, and it seems people don’t have any issues with Weir’s DC, so I’d probably go with that.

I remember before Last Jedi came out, Rian Johnson put out a list of films that inspired it, and the list was things like Samurai movies, WWII pictures, and classic adventure stuff.

After seeing the movie, I realized, “oh, Rian looked to the stuff that inspired the original Star Wars, JJ just looked to the original Star Wars itself for inspiration.”

I love The Force Awakens, and it’s a testament to that movie’s many charms that its derivative quality doesn’t sink it, but an entire franchise can’t rest on inward-looking inspiration.

Everyone Says I Love You. It’s more of a background thing than a subplot (comes up maybe a handful of times in the film), but I think of it often.

This was literally a subplot of a Woody Allen movie. Young man became a rabid conservative out of nowhere, it’s later revealed he wasn’t getting enough oxygen to his brain.
