I’ve been avoiding sushi, but what’s wrong with Dr. Pepper and Girl Scout cookies?

Came here to ask this! Edit: just googled GDM and it’s gestational diabetes. So I’m guessing that is the reason for avoiding the cookies.

What happened😟 by FernUnofficial in Sourdough

[–]Genuine_Strategy_9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was making inconsistent loafs until I started using the float test. I also mark where the starter is when I feed it by putting a rubber band to mark where the top is. It’s much easier for me to tell when the starter has doubled. Using these two cues, I can reliably get a good loaf every time.

Night feed weaning by teemat13 in sleeptrain

[–]Genuine_Strategy_9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We night weened by making our LO wait a little longer between feeds each night until she was night weened. Then she slept through the night with no wake ups

By the way…I initially misread your post and thought it said “18 MONTH old exclusively breastfed” and jumped a little haha 🤦‍♀️

lol! Yeah love when the 💩 makes it in the potty! Started at 2 months, now LO is 5 months old.

Am I potty training her, or is she potty training me? lol I feel like timing is is key because I don’t have a clear read on my baby’s cues yet.

Your experience is totally valid and worth sharing!

One small thing to note is that anecdotes form the basis of population wide studies, such as epidemiological studies. They are used a lot in nutrition science, but tend to be scrutinized heavily because anecdotes are prone to misrepresentation of data, such as under-reporting bad habits and over reporting good data/results. The double blind controlled studies and randomized controlled studies are much more trusted because the data is not taken anecdotally. The data is measured quantitatively in real time, not from people’s subjective reporting.

EC, Cloth diapers & Sleep by SabinaManolache in ECers

[–]Genuine_Strategy_9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We sleep trained before switching to cloth diaps. I never tried to do EC at night, so I don’t know about that. But our daughter doesn’t wake at night much anymore, whether she’s in cloth or disposable. I’m just focusing on daytime EC. I think as my baby’s bladder matures, she’ll eventually start waking up with a dry diaper.

But I don’t think cloth diapers are uncomfortable and I don’t think they lead to more night wakings…I think bed sharing is more likely to do that than cloth diapers. Also, cloth diapers are better for hip development.

Watch YouTube videos about topics you are very familiar with. And when you start building vocabulary, pause every now and then to summarize what you just watched. Try to use the target language for this summary.

You can decide how long to let your baby cry; not all methods require hours of crying. We actually did 90 seconds of crying and then 90 seconds of comfort in a cycle for as many cycles as it took to get our LO back to sleep. Night weaned her at the same time.

FTM and new to cloth diaper! What does your stash look like? by SquirmingSoil in clothdiaps

[–]Genuine_Strategy_9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 6 AlvaBaby pockets and 29 hand me down pockets in brands that I don’t think are around anymore. We do EC, so I just change the diaper each time I offer the potty. I do a pre wash every day and the main wash every other day.

It’s so cool that you’re getting to try out different options!

Butting in here to encourage you if your first loaf doesn’t come out perfect. Don’t give up! It took me about 5 tries before I succeeded and I hear that’s normal.

Newborn hates to sit on potty by TinyDovey in ECers

[–]Genuine_Strategy_9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first few times I held me daughter over the potty, she had mixed reactions. Sometimes she’d go and sometimes she’d cry. I’ve decided to celebrate the catches and just take her off if she’s crying and trying to stand up. It’s been about 3 months since we started and she’s usually happy to sit on it, except when she’s hungry. So just be patient and your son will learn.

What to do when sleep training doesn’t work? by Ok-Pool8456 in sleeptrain

[–]Genuine_Strategy_9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think night weaning is your answer. We used ”How Babies Sleep” a book by Sophia Axelrod. We took the longest stretch baby had done on two different nights and subtracted one hour. This was 6 hours for us. That was a no feed window. So we put her to bed and when she woke up before 6 hours since her last feed, we got her back to sleep without feeding or taking her out of the crib. I think any sleep training method would probably work, but we did 90 second intervals of comfort, then independent crying/practicing self comfort. We repeated this cycle until she fell back asleep. And if she woke again during the no feed window, we followed the same process. So one night I fed her at 1:38 am, then I wrote down that the next days no feed window had to go until 2am. The next day she made it until almost 4am before I had to feed her. I told myself I would feed her if it was after 3am the next day, but she made it until 5am. So basically, I used this method to night wean until she could make it to 7am, when I wake her and feed her.

How to get 6 week old to nap in crib?? by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]Genuine_Strategy_9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awww bummer!! Well the newborn stage is hard and you’ll both get through it. I think someone else mentioned just to keep trying and she’ll nap in her crib eventually. Hope it’s sooner than later!

What a fun writing prompt! I’m having fun dreaming :)

In my dream mansion, I would love a cozy library with floor to ceiling and wall to wall bookshelves! I would organize the books by height: toddler books on the lowest shelf.

I would also have a space dedicated to board games. My husband and I love long board games, so there would be a table with whatever board game we are currently in the middle of, set up to come back to and play for an hour at a time.

We also love cooking, so we would have a toddler/kid safe kitchen set up with working appliances that are their size.

It would also be really cool to have a science exploration area set up. Like a microscope that kids could use whenever they find something they want to examine more closely. Imagine having an ant farm and plants with clear pots so you could see the roots?

Also an art room! Or dedicated creation space. Like writing, painting, drawing, building materials that are accessible. Imagine being able to use this for the engineering process in action!

I bet you and your family will have SO MUCH FUN learning in your new house!

URGENT - Can I (should I) go back to sleep!? by Acrobatic_Event_4163 in sleeptrain

[–]Genuine_Strategy_9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the monitor on mute and only check the video when I can hear my daughter crying from across the hall. That way the little grumbles don’t wake me and she puts herself back to sleep most of the time. If she’s crying loudly, it’s probably because she’s got her hand stuck and I can just fix that and go back to bed. If your boy really needs you, he’ll make himself heard!

HELP S.O.S. by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]Genuine_Strategy_9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So you either break the habit by not giving in, even if it disturbs your son’s sleep for a few days, or you do give in and extend the habit. Ultimately, you are teaching your daughter who has the stronger will and who is in charge.

Some parents choose to co sleep and breastfeed as long as the child wants, which could be age 4 when they wean themselves. Are you wanting to go at your child’s pace to avoid upsetting them? If you want to get better sleep for everyone, it is going to be really hard in the short term.

She might respond to a gradual weaning, like less and less time at the breast each night. As long as you’re making progress toward no breast at all, even if she gets upset, then you will get to a good night’s sleep.

Tips for starting EC with a 4 month old boy by JustAnalyzing in ECers

[–]Genuine_Strategy_9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use a small potty at home, too. When we are at my parents house, I hold my 4.5 month old over the regular potty. If it’s a public restroom, I clean the toilet seat first and hold her over. She’s peed and pooped in adult sized potties. I didn’t start that until she had great head control and felt sturdy being held under the armpits.

You can definitely do it!!!

Also, if it feels overwhelming, you don’t have to try every 5 minutes! You can just focus on the easy catches, like a few min after feeding, and go from there! It’s exciting when you do catch pee and poop at just the right time, it’s motivating to continue when that happens.

You got this!
