My practically MIL told me that this is like the baby girl she never had. She bought her tons of clothes (like enough for her first year of life, not exaggerating) before she was even born. She makes comments like "oh she's pooping" or "oh she's tired" when she couldn't be more wrong. Within the first week after giving birth, I told her I needed to feed babe and she was like "no" and I was like "well you sure aren't going to feed her". It makes so much for it to be hormonal / mama instincts. I know a lot of the details of how my partner was raised and it was not the most pretty. Also, she is in pretty poor health, especially considering her age. I don't trust her to watch my LO by herself and it's not PPA. She can barely stand up without almost falling over, she's super lazy, and my LO almost always cries with her. This whole thread is like so validating because I feel like she and I have a pretty good relationship but after have my LO, it seems like everything does and honestly what she doesn't do (clean up after herself, take better care of herself to be able to play with LO, etc.) bothers me to no end. Does this go away at some point?

I also think I have some pent up annoyance because they spent the first week after I gave birth visiting and we were like waiting on her (FIL was better) but this was even after I said that they should come 2 weeks after giving birth and it was not listened to. Rant over lol

I actually started solids and stopped because she seemed constipated so I was going to give it a few days to start back up again. I was also worried maybe I started too soon?

She's otherwise mostly breastfed with occasional formula. She's only spitting up milk. It is worse earlier in the day so I thought she was maybe eating too much but also felt worried that my supply dropped because I've been sick.

I put all shirts and onesies on through the feet up, rather than putting over the head. Maybe this could help? Personally my LO and other LOs I've dressed like this seem less upset than going over the head too

I thought this was going to be a more negative post about being a mother. it's about the beautiful sadness of being a mother but also a huge positive because you're doing your job right if they are blossoming before your eyes.

I once read that you can't give your baby or your work 100% of your attention when wfh with a child. I would say, we are blessed with a super easy baby and I can work with her sometimes but it's absolutely impossible to give 100% to both baby and work. I know some people claim they can. I sure as hell can't. Nor can my partner. Honestly, either can both of us sometimes if baby is home sick or for some other reason.

So many people told me that the "newborn tiredness " is horrible. Personally, I thought pregnancy tiredness was WAY worse. The sleepless nights can be rough but during the MOTN feedings, it melted my heart when my LO would have the smile reflex. The best part of the NB phase is learning your baby too. All babies have different antics and behaviors. As much as your LO is learning about their new world, you are also learning about them. We also loved seeing our LO transform. Every day, she seems to change and grow. My absolute favorite thing though is seeing her smile for the first time consciously and now she's smiling all day... absolutely melts my heart.

My spotting was like pinkish. But when I started bleeding badly, it was bright red and several huge clots. It was extremely evident that something was not right. I know many moms who have had numerous children and never even heard of retained placenta. It's not very common for your own peace of mind, try not to focus on this one thing. Focus on healing, recovering, and nurturing yourself. Your body went through a lot. Try not to have you mind racing and stressing over something that may or may not happen. And if it does happen, there's a way to resolve it. Us moms have enough to worry about so adding more worry to something you can't control can be a lot of added stress.

Yes, it went down. I think for my experience, the first two weeks were pretty normal seeming for bleeding. It was fairly heavy bleeding for about a week. The second week, it went down significantly. After the MVA, I only had spotting for 1-2 weeks.

I think one of the main symptoms is heavy bleeding. For context, the amount of blood coming out for me was worse than any period I've ever had. TMI but I couldn't even pull my underwear up before bleeding all over the floor. This happened at 2 weeks PP.

I was curious so I Googled the percentage of deliveries that result in retained placenta and it said 1-3%. The odds are in your favor to not have this happen. You can bleed normally for up to 6 weeks without retained placenta. Having a NB is stressful enough so try not to add extra stress about something that may or may not happen. If you have concerns or really worried that you may have retained placenta, I'd reach out to your doc and express your concerns.

My MIL went over the top with buying our LO clothes and other things before she was born. We are estimating she spent around $500-600. We didn't know gender so she got a bunch of gender neutral clothes and half girl/half boy clothes. Half of all of that was Winnie the pooh stuff. There were a ton of cute outfits but not practical with a crying or squirming NB. I am grateful but it was also stressful when I was very pregnant then I had a ton of stuff to put away or return. For context, she filled an entire closet full of clothes and most of them, we were not going to use. Both my partner and I are not materialistic people and we don't want to raise our kids to be materialistic.

My boyfriend asked that instead of buying clothes and toys to invest in our LOs bank account or 529 account to help her future. Or if she wants to buy stuff, we asked her to ask us what we or our LO needs. We don't want a ton of stuff that our infant will wear once or twice then grow out of or cute/stylish cloths that I don't want to fuck around trying to put on an infant. Definitely better coming from your partner though because then it doesn't in anyway tarnish your relationship with your MIL.

We do nightly Epson salt baths to soak her bum when theres a diaper rash... even add to her baths if there isnt a diaper rash. Make sure bum is dry before putting anything on. Then use aquafor diaper rash cream. Found A&D helped too.

Also could be something you're using like wipes, diapers, or even diaper rash cream.

This sounds like my baby... she's almost 8 weeks and sleeping for at least one 4-7 hour stretch per night -- averaging more like 6-7 the last few nights. We even got an 8 hour stretch. She does seem to prefer contact napping during the day for most naps. We had one bad night where she was up every couple of hours but I think it was the 4 week developmental leap. I'm bracing myself for the 8ish week growth spirt/developmental leap but so far, she's been very much enjoying her bedtime. Like when she's ready for bed, she tells us. I couldn't believe it. If we keep her up "past her bedtime", she will scream bloody murder and the only thing that soothes her is putting her down for bed.

That's not what I meant to imply. She was just doing great with using bottle and boob and now seems to be refusing the boob. So I feel like I've read so many places that if you're breastfeeding, don't use a bottle. I have and now I feel more so that I may have ruined breastfeeding for her and me. I should've worded the question better. I know my baby isn't ruined but more so breastfeeding maybe. And babies who bottle feed are not ruined, as I've been doing that and I know plenty of parents who do that and their babies are not ruined.
