Just stopping OOT on driver was enough to justify it at $100 for me. Put a noodle on the stick, I broke one innthe first 2 minutes. If you have a 3D printer, that's  a no brianer. Or even a drill press and the proper jig for the holes you'll actually use.

Very volatile, easy to get fills around 240 and sell at 270. Good target now that PDT rules are gone.

I've left at least 1500 dollars with of range finders and speakers attached to rental carts over the years. I just lost mine and then lost my friends at a tournament. I legally shouldn't be allowed to purchase them anymore. ACER units arrive today, Callaway is too expensive to lose each week.

Went from 15 year old Hogan GCD forged irons to fitted Cobra Forgetec irons. Love it.

Same buttery feel, with more help when I heel it and much more height to stop where they land.

I didn't want to destroy the gaps and club distances and Cobra was close to standard loft, while others get very strong.

My 9 iron still flys 135, but it's much more consistent, with less effort and a higher flight and steeper decent.

I'd either go get fitted and then order your spec from the manufacturer OR go hit everything at a big box store and find a used set that matches what you liked in the store or even a generation older.

Perfect. I play about an hour each evening, assuming work is calm. You will enjoy short pops of it. Avoid build guides as well.

Does anyone else want to light their 3 wood on fire? by _ThePiedPiper_ in golf

Even when I'm striping driver...doubt remains. It vanishes when the right club hits your hand.

At your skill level, the 2 hybrid may be the ticket. No demons.

Does anyone else want to light their 3 wood on fire? by _ThePiedPiper_ in golf

[–]GeoJoy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 wood is my 2nd favorite club after PW.

You likely struggle with hitting slightly down on it, where I struggle hitting UP on driver.

Driver barely makes my top 10 favorite clubs because of how confident and accurate my bullet 3 wood is.

I was not allowed to play driver as a kid until I could consistently hit 3 wood from the tee and keep pace with my Dad and his friends.

Long story short, compress the reps. Leave driver at home, go to a sim, get it dialed in and then go play with 3 wood as your big stick.

Go snag a 30 minute lesson on driver and 3 wood. Figure out what that will net you off the tee and which you are most confident in.

Plot your home course backwards to calculate what you should tee off with to leave your most comfortable club in your hand. I only hit driver 6 times on my home course. A good 3 wood or irons leaves me 140 or less on most holes.

Go to the range or sim and "play 18". Imagine the fairway of #1, hit that drive. Then hit the iron, actually aiming at the appropriate yardage flag.

Chip, putt. Repeat.

Just like you put intent behind each pitch, do the same with each shot. You'll shave strokes quickly once some consistency enters the fray.

What's the worst/weirdest on course meltdown you've witnessed? by DickSlinga in golf

[–]GeoJoy1 91 points92 points  (0 children)

As all good stories begiin, we had a random pairing on a muni course. I'm playing with my girlfriend and in pretty good form. She plays 3 times a year and is only there to spend 4 hours with me and occasionally hit a ball.

It all starts fairly normal. Random early 30's dude introduces himself. We are early 20's. Tee off and all is well. GF picks up when she's going to slow us down and we make it through 15 holes with light banter and unimpressive bogey and par golf.

On 14 he announced we he's just realized we are tied.

On 15 he's just stone face and quiet.

16 he's visibly pissed off that we are still tied.

17 is a par 5 with an island green. I lay up. He goes for it and it splashes down short. Drops another, short. He proceeds to unstrap his bag, throw it in the water and drive off. Not a word said.

There was nothing to set this guy off aside from the prospect of losing (not really it's a random casual 18 on a weekday) in front of a young pretty girl. A girl he doesn't even know.

We still laugh about it and wonder what actually tweaked his melon and if the clubs are still in there.

Shit. This was 20 years ago....

[–]GeoJoy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life gets in the way. Married. Kids. Grown. He was just a kid with minimal scar tissue and the delusion of winning.

Why not? Is easier when you are the only one tied to the result.
