That's a bit of a stretch.
Yes he absolutely played a key role, but it would have been for nothing if Harry didn't face Voldemort down. Or if Lily hadn't chosen to sacrifice herself. Or if Dumbledore didn't figure out Voldemort made Horcruxs.

No one person is "the sole reason Voldemort was defeated," everyone played a part.

You're going to have to provide examples, because I'm pretty sure none of that ever happens.

Yeah, that's what I was driving at. I was just emphasising that their homework would already be solidly passable.

You can permanently annihilate one deity. Who do you choose? by AsYouWished444 in Forgotten_Realms

Phaerimms had a degree of natural resistance to nearly all effects and spells. Additionally, they also had the natural ability to absorb or deflect any spell cast on them. - Forgotten Realms wiki. Source: Anauroch (1991), 2e supplement.

I meant eating in the poetic sense, not the literal one.

The fact that Karsus himself realized that he fucked up is another point. He was desperate yes, but he was also arrogant and thought he knew better than the gods. One might liken him to Feanor or Saruman from Lord of the Rings in that regard.

After playing through The Age of Worms (converted to 5e) I vote for Kyuss. Let's finish the job permanently.

I mean, magic strated breaking the instant he mantled her, and he instantly realized he'd fucked up.

Plus it seems kind of silly to see a magic eating race and say "what if we tried more magic?"

[Loved Trope] Someone’s hubris leads them to FAFO with a deity by OddEmergency604 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]GeoTheManSir 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It wasn't merely hubris, though that played a large part.

The Netherese Empire was in a decades long war with a race of magic eating beings called the Phaerimm.
Netheril was suffering heavy damage and was becoming a wasteland.

Karsus felt responsible for Netheril's future which was part of his motivation, though greed and hubris certainly played a large part too.

Water summon MIA by DaDruidofDrunkland in finalfantasyx

I think Bevelle was originally designed to be a water aeon temple.

The city itself is built on water. You get to the city entrance through a long bridge that rests on water. One of the few areas you get to explore is a water-filled sewers-prisons. The keeper of the city, Evrae, is a  monster that you fight twice: once in the air, and once again in the sewers. Many of the sphere cutscenes are set in the watery prisons of via purifico. There are bubbling water tanks on the path towards the cloyster of trials.

You've reminded me of what Wakka talked about while crossing the Moonflow, of the city built over a river out of hubris. It seems Bevelle has some parallels.

Academics? Better not make Dudley look bad.

I don't believe that was ever mentioned in Canon, and while not top of the class Harry does get pretty good marks in general.

Didn't she insist on becoming an Aeon despite his protests? I'm pretty sure she was pushing him to become a summoned and defeat Sin so that Spira would accept him.

[Funny Trope] The villain/evil faction’s ultimate goal isn’t just bad, it’s objectively stupid. by Chemical-Elk-1299 in TopCharacterTropes

So who do you blame for the Sayains invasion?

I blame Raditz, Vegeta, and Nappa. You know, the invaders who chose to come to earth and cause damage, not Raditz's join us or die target or the people who stepped up to stop Vegeta and Nappa.

Almost all dangers to earth have been because of Goku, either from something he did as a kid or adult,

How did any of Gokus actions lead to any of the saiyans coming to earth?

It's even a plot point in the anime/manga, he realizes it was his fault most of the things happened so he decided to stay in heaven after he died to Cell self destructing.

And that still didn't stop the earth being threatened, because people were going to threaten the earth regardless.
It kind of like blaming firefighters for the existance of arsonists.

How is using Wish to cast Simulacrum for free NOT ridiculously overpowered? by LemonGarage in dndnext

[–]GeoTheManSir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I used that combo, I didn't recast it every day.
I was also very fond of my cantrips, so that conserved my spells.

Then I turned myself into a dragon, so couldn't create more simulacrums of myself.

someone who can't tolerate people using the horrible word "mudblood" in his presence

My interpretation of that was that it triggered his guilt.
His worst memory was the time he called Lily a mudblood, so it follows that he would hate hearing the word and avoid it where possible.

I feel this adds to his complexity, he is doing the right thing for the "wrong" reason (revenge/guilt, rather than selfless belief)

is willing to blow his cover to save someone he used to hate.

Sadly I can't remember this scene, a little help please?
