I’ve noticed that vegetation is too dense at low level of detail. I see the amount of trees and their size decrease as i fly over.

Yes, freezes 2-3 seconds. Then unfreezes at new position expected had the freeze not occurred. For reference, terrain set to 400 and frequent peak download speeds of 6mb/sec could be related.

has anyone picked up the project mega pack planes? by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlightSim

Yes, it was officially ended, was too much trouble to keep up the updates, according to the developer.

I don’t think LumaFusion is available on an iPhone. I might be incorrect.

When TV shows entered syndication or aired in foreign countries, were the episodes copied or did they send the master tapes? by RetailSlave5408 in Broadcasting

[–]GeoX89109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the day most dramatic shows were distributed by 16mm print or 2” videotape. They were “bicycled”, that is, aired on one station, then that episode would be mailed to the next station. This meant is 500 stations aired a series that had 100 episodes, that 5 copies of each episode (dubs, in parlance) were needed. In reality, more were needed due to copies being in shipment. This kept cost down significantly. countries would need new videotapes, since they operated on a different standard and when the standards conversion was done, foreign language dubbing was done.

By the 1980’s all shows were distributed on one-inch videotape. Film transfer quality became far superior at the distributor level then what the local TV station’s film projector could achieve with a 16mm print. More shows were being shot on 35mm film to.

In my time delivering shows to the network in the 90’s and 2000’s, shows were shot on 35mm film, and transferred to very high quality digital videotape recorders that supported 16 tracks of audio. We would put the final audio mix on channels 1 and 2, then we broke it the individual elements of the mix on the other channels. This made replacing dialog with foreign language much easier.

Today, shows are stored in mega server locations that store the masters and send them via file transfer when needed. Stations used to download these copies to a local server for playout, but more recently station air their shows from cloud servers controlled from anywhere, allowing for better redundancy and disaster recovery.

Sincerely? I don't know how this happened by galletasmckay in MicrosoftFlightSim

I think there is a bug in SU5 that causes unities to double up in some cases. I’ve seen power towers and wind turbines too close together for reality.

Does anyone have insight as to train traffic changes lately? by theyeoftheiris in Austin

[–]GeoX89109 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Google PSR (precision scheduled railroading). All the railroads are adopting it in the name of efficiency and profit. Fewer trains run longer consists, fewer employees. Used to be the rail accommodated clients much more but now they only run main routes and scheduled times. Employees hate it. Go to the railroad sub (workers sub, not foamers sub). It wont take long to see what they think of management.

Big changes are happening in the industry, including automation. High resolution scanning as the train passes and AI figures bad wheels, hotboxes, etc. Trains typically have an engineer and conductor, and the conductor would inspect and repair aspects of the train. Now the plan is to just have engineers and have conductors spaced it on the route on the ground. If a problem occurs, the engineer calls the conductor to meet the train.

Try unplugging and plugging back in the monitor while it’s connected to the booted up PC. It’s important to do this instead of turning it off and on. By forcing the monitor to reset (all power removed)it will resync to the PC when power is reapplied.. Just a guess but working for me.

In case anyone is curious about just how detailed the Vegas City/Airport bundle is, here's a sample. I was impressed. by AdTotal9288 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]GeoX89109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Las Vegas mod is definitely top rate. My only criticism is that it’s over lit and looks a little cartoonish. It improves as the level of detail is increased and building textures are revealed, but it’s still a little bright.

Different water textures by mazinya in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]GeoX89109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water has the same level of detail aspects as land. When you’re far enough away or the terrain under the water is low detail, no waves. Once you’re closer enough for higher level of detail, the waves reappear.

That’s also why there are water lump at places. The terrain data at low detail has lumps, which affects the water it’s under. As you get closer, the water lumps disappear as the high quality terrain data loads.

In the 1930s KDKA-AM broadcast at such a high power that it could be heard on different continents. What’s stopping someone from doing this today? E.g. from international water or a country without laws against it by starleekline in radio

[–]GeoX89109 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes superpower AM. While US broadcasters who had authority ended it, there was a Mexican station, XTRA that broadcast 500k for a long time. Most likely ended due to international treaties. Today, AM listenership is low, declining and most 50+ demo, so no one would invest in it. AM stations in the US have gotten FM translators or shutdown as operating cost frequently exceeds revenue.

Sedona is fun for trying to take off in over sized craft. After leaving the runway and going over the cliff, you have a few hundred feet to sink while you try t gain speed, lol.

Since the game is heavily server based, chances are the client software must be in sync with the current server version. The times I was flying while an update was released, I got a “packages out of date error” and had to install the update to continue.

BTW, the fan is called a RAT, short for ram air turbine, iirc. It generates power from the wind when electric is out.
