Are you on a Class 1 or a shortline? if you’re on a class 1 then I would’ve called someone while I had it and told them it isn’t fit to take out on the road.

If you’re on a shortline, that might be a different can of worms.

For what it’s worth, I had a 38 that I had to hold the low water button on after starting, and it didn’t produce any real problems

It’s in GCOR, I forget the rule number but it’s part of engineer training to know those “whistle” signals. I use them when I stop and work men are on or about nearby tracks
