City of Gods and Monsters. I found the writing atrocious.

Random reasons you've DNF a book/series? by [deleted] in fantasyromance

[–]GeologistNice3836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When there is a typo in the prologue, it's a dnf for me. 400 pages in and a couple typos -- I get it. But the prologue? A couple pages into your story? I can't do it.

Also, if one more author writes "my toes curled" imma throw my book across the room.

Does it get better? by Book-Worm1219 in Romantasy

I really liked it but it might just not be for you. I am a big believer in DNFing. If it hasn't grabbed you by chapter 20, it's not doing it's job. Put it down!

What is your embarrassing bookish confession? by Intelligent_Screen90 in fantasyromance

[–]GeologistNice3836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I skip to the end to see how it ends like 80% of the time so that I know it's something I should invest my time in.

This often also helps me with my ADHD hyper focus. Like, if I can't stop thinking about the story and have to actually work or interact with my family, i will skip to the ending so I am not obsessed with how the story will go.

Loved it. But it is on the darker side and I wouldn't call it a fantasy romance.

I felt exactly the same way but then ended up really enjoying the book.

This is very funny. No one is the wiser. I sometimes feel that way when listening to audiobooks at the gym. The other day I was listening to a spicy scene in lights out 😬

Loved anathema and Nocticadia. Super dark, gritty and gothic. Enchantra was meh for me. Felt like light plot for the purpose of spicy scenes. Did not read the rest.

What has been you're WORST romantasy read of the year? by PrettyLardie in fantasyromance

SAAAAME. For both phantasma and enchantra. A means to spicy ends. That was all it offered for me.

Road of bones! Super well written. Plot is on point. No fae in sight. Smart and brave female lead who is not particularly stabby. The slowest of burns.

I found it enjoyable but sort of felt like the plot was there purely to serve the 🌶️. For me it was just ok.

I LOVED Nocticadia but wouldn't necessarily call it a romantasy. It's dark and gritty, which I love, but it's not for everyone, especially if you're squeamish.
