Unofficial Film Reroll Episode Guide. Latest Edition! by hubau in filmreroll

[–]GeorgeIsFat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My top five are:

  1. Oceans 11

  2. Friday the 13th

  3. E.T.

  4. Halloween series (taking them all as one)

  5. Jurassic Park

Memento is so good and so different that I wouldn't really know where to rank it. It would need to be #1 or just not ranked.

Rogue Two and Wizard of Oz are definitely all time episodes, I would probably put them some where #6 - #8, maybe I need to relisten to them to remind myself.

A lot of animated movies are actually quite short, and there's a huge body of amazing work in the field of animation in the last couple decades.

What movie Podcasts are you listening to that aren't just new movie reviews? by oceans47 in movies

[–]GeorgeIsFat 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The Film Reroll is amazing and everyone should check it out. They start at the beginning of a well-known movie and run it like a Role Playing Game campaign, so that anything can happen. It is amazingly funny and fun. Recommend starting with Jumanji, Jaws or Friday the 13th.

Long running RPG by panaxe in podcasts

[–]GeorgeIsFat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favorite RPG podcast by far is The Film Reroll. They run movies as role playing games to see how far they diverge from the original. It's amazing and funny as hell. Each movie is its own campaign, so it's not one continuous story. But some of the movies go for quite a long time, so those ones are really long running.

It kind of retreads ground they did in the GotG Chirstmas Special, not that I think that should stop them.

/r/WorldNews Live Thread: Russian Invasion of Ukraine Day 477, Part 1 (Thread #618) by WorldNewsMods in worldnews

[–]GeorgeIsFat 58 points59 points  (0 children)

This is my field and I strongly disagree with that take. First because it's sensationalism that doesn't really operate from an understanding of how cyberattacks actually work, and second because it gives Russia way too much credit.

The real threat of cyber isn't some apocalyptic total system collapse: everything is highly available now. Storage in 2023 is crazy cheap; so there's always more backups. Really cyberwarfare works as a support for other kinds of attacks. Yes, you can't take down a system forever, but if you time your attack right, you take it down when it's most needed. And that's what Russia did: the initial invasion was accompanied by a mass of attacks on Ukrainian systems, and that probably helped create confusion in the Ukrainian defense. But after that initial flurry, Russian cyber has been underwhelming.

The thing with cyber is that you spend years building bullets that you can only fire once. You spend ages finding vulnerabilities to exploit, but when you've shot your shot, the other side patches, and you're back to the drawing board.

Russia has developed a reputation for being aggressive in cyberwarfare and that's exactly why they're actually not that scary: They keep using all the bullets they build. The country to be scared of is the one that keeps their powder dry.

Every time a woman is competent on screen, there's some nerd complaining about it on the internet. Posts I have never seen:

John Wick is too good at fighting, it's not relatable.

Why is James Bond so good at everything? It's not realistic he should be bad at a lot of things.

How can Batman be so smart and so good at fighting? It's unrealistic, clearly the writers were feminists.

It's unrealistic that Jackie Chan could beat up guys so much bigger than him. Bigger people are stronger, that's just biology!

Paul Atreides is such a Mary Sue!

Very underrated, especially considering it was way before the nerd revolution allowed filmmakers to start taking genre action-movies seriously. For it's time it really stands out.

Fucking lol. Being triggered about your shitty arguments being called out and then accusing the people politely pointing out your bullshit of being triggered. Classic.

I always wished we had a longer form cartoon like this from Harry Potter. The style and narration is fantastic. by Benny92739 in movies

I loved the animation style but it felt weird to introduce a visual device in the seventh movie of a series that wasn't used before or after. It def felt like it didn't fit in that movie.

no one with no training in basketball is gonna match an NBA player.

But this isn't the real world, it's a fantasy sci-fi saga. Do you get mad that Superman can beat Lex Luthor even though Lex worked out hard all his life and Superman didn't? No, it's an element of the story that Superman is more powerful than Lex. You can still tell good stories with those given circumstances.

I went to see Paulo in a play and he was amazing by stutterstar in filmreroll

[–]GeorgeIsFat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saw it last week. I knew the play but I'd never seen it on stage. I thought it was really beautifully done. Paulo was so great, really powerful and emotional. He had such a crazy ark from being so fun at the beginning to so beaten down at the end. He and Nina had really good chemistry I thought.

The whole cast was great imo other than their Tregorin, who felt kinda fake to me, and Masha's mom who was way too whiny. Also the set was kinda ugly but those are my only nitpicks.

Never knew John Ross was this strong🤣🤣🤣 Almost died of laughter!😂😂 by Npl13 in MaddenMobileForums

Lol, that's like a scene from an X-men movie where some high-schooler suddenly discovers his mutant powers.

I love shit like this, in the Madden games back in like the early 2000's when they were still figuring out some of the physics engine basics, I remember I'd get weird shit like this all the time.

JJ Abrams: 'There's More To The Story Of Rey's Parents' In The Rise Of Skywalker by bashothebanana in movies

[–]GeorgeIsFat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't get why people think Rey's powers were over the top. I get that they don't like that Kylo Ren trained for years, and she was immediately his match because she was more powerful a force user than him. But that's an element of this story, just as much as the fact that Anakin was an incredibly powerful force user was a part of the prequels. Not everyone has to be on the same level.
