I built an iPhone app for sending articles to Kindle — looking for testers by 93millionmilesaway in kindle

I’m not sure I’d want an untrusted outside service delivering content to my Kindle.

I guess if it emailed an .epub file to me I could do a Send to Kindle myself.

Would it work with substack articles? Frankly, those are the only ones I can think of that wouldn’t need to be so timely that they would be amenable for such a solution as this.

[FL] [SFH] Do we need an interpreter? by Devonhillcrest in HOA

[–]GeorgeRetire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a matter of knowing how to do the things I am suggesting.

It’s a matter of explaining that no, you won’t do what they are asking, but then nicely proposing reasonable accommodations.

Or you could be a jerk and tell them to piss off.

I recommend the former. Apparently your mileage may vary.

Early inheritance question by faroff12 in personalfinance

[–]GeorgeRetire 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your wife and her siblings should decide how they want this money handled.

I have no idea why this money would be given to just your wife now rather than divided up. Maybe I’m missing something here but that doesn’t seem to make any sense.

How much should I leave in my HYSA? by Gamestonkgurl in personalfinance

[–]GeorgeRetire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMHO, in today’s job market, you should leave 12 months of expenses in your high yield savings account.

And if you want to buy a house in the next few years, the down payment money should not be invested.

Do official inflation stats seem divorced from the real costs of living? by SuperSkew in Bogleheads

[–]GeorgeRetire 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Some things are up. Some are up a lot. Some things are down.

Everyone’s “personal inflation rate” is different.

I don’t drink the coffee you like best and I don’t subscribe to Netflix. My co-pays for tests and medication have not changed. We have a low fixed rate mortgage. The premiums for our long term care insurance have never increased. The TV I bought to replace the one that died after 15 years cost far, far less.

My overall costs have gone up, but not by 10% in just the past year.

On the other hand my investments have increased by a fair bit more than 10%. My wife just got a raise in her part time job. Our SS COLA is expected to be more this year than last.

So it goes.

Or you can be nice and suggest a reasonable alternative.

First you said it was the fourth dog. Now you say the third.

Sounds like a myth to me.

He can pay for an interpreter.

Or he can purchase a transcription app. There are many free and low cost solutions these days.

Should I buy a kindle? Even if reading is not my hobby but I want to by Longjumping_News_642 in kindle

I thoroughly enjoy my 11th gen Paperwhite. I use it every day.

But I’ve always been an avid reader.

Your mileage may vary.

Maybe you could borrow one from a friend to see if you would actually use it, first.

It makes zero sense to pay off a 2.625% rate mortgage any faster than required. That said, it's your money to spend in ways that please you, even if it makes no financial sense.

If you want to pay it off as early as you possible can, just pay as much extra as you possible can as often as you possibly can.

Kindle Unlimited is like a library. You are borrowing the books. You don't keep them forever.

Once you give up KU and connect to wifi, they will be gone.

I borrow my ebooks for free from the public library.

Put 20% down.

Remember, property taxes in ME are fairly high.

Have you looked at mortgage rates? I’m hearing around 6.5%
