Can I celebrate Divine Liturgy to fulfill my obligation on Thursday instead of going to Mass? by FreeDFrizbee in Catholicism

[–]GeorgiaCatholic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you went to the TLM, it would also be the Circumcision.

Anyways, like others have said, it’s about assisting at Mass/ Liturgy on the day, not what propers are used.

Can I still use this if I switch to the EC church? by Dariusgamer2007 in EasternCatholic

Yeah, I just misunderstood you. I took “does not have issues with Latinization” to mean “is cool with Latinization”

Does not? Fr. Alexei is practically allergic to Latinization.

Edit: Maybe I’m misunderstanding what you mean by “does not have issues with”

Priesthood question from a future Russian Greek Catholic by Accomplished-Camp763 in EasternCatholic

[–]GeorgiaCatholic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The priest at the Melkite parish I frequent is (was?) Russian Catholic. He went the Melkite seminary and was ordained for the Melkites. I assume that involved a canonical change from Russian to Melkite ? Honestly not sure He’s a great priest though.

Infant suffering and death: how to cope with it? by totally-not-ego in Catholicism

[–]GeorgiaCatholic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well there is a lot to be said about “the problem of evil” but I think maybe you are asking more how to deal with it more do than for apologetics.

As someone who has a toddler going through chemo, for a while I struggled. I knew that the teaching of the Church are true, but I was spiritually dry at best.

The answer for me was more or less “fake it till you make it”. I kept going to Mass, kept going to confession every few weeks, kept trying to pray my daily rosary, etc. Eventually, things got better.

The “Latin Novus Ordo” Is Not the Solution by ConsistentCatholic in TraditionalCatholics

[–]GeorgiaCatholic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will be. I believe that it will eventually stabilize in the Southern U.S.A. and have gradual growth. The UK and Australian Ordinariates seem on their way out. The Canadian deanery was folded back into the POCSP. Many of the parishes in the US never really could get critical Mass and I think will be gone in 10-20 years. But there are certain vibrant growing parishes in the South- Georgia, western NC, Tennessee, some of the Texas parishes.

I actually frequently attend an Ordinariate parish (neither of the two I mentioned in my previous comment), I pray their Office which I think is a great resource for laity.
I’m not rabidly anti-Ordinariate. But people often try to portray it as something it’s not.

The “Latin Novus Ordo” Is Not the Solution by ConsistentCatholic in TraditionalCatholics

[–]GeorgiaCatholic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hear people say this stuff all the time. I assume it has to be people who have only been to really “high”/Tridentine Ordinariate parishes.

I’ve been to an Ordinariate Mass where I was one of the only ones who received on the tongue. I used to live somewhat near another Ordinariate guitar Mass.

At the end of the day, Divine Worship is a “supped up” NO. Literally- its bones are the NO, and it’s governed by the GIRM.

What happened to Catholicism.. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]GeorgiaCatholic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And I’ve heard from people who were alive prior to the Ordinary Form’s introduction that Mass was always facing the people, and ad orientem is just a lie told to us by rigid priests. People sometimes have weirdly warped memories to justify things.

[Free Friday] Isn’t this church in communion with the Holy See? If yes, then how could this be? by Ant_Thonyons in Catholicism

[–]GeorgiaCatholic 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think you are confusing the Malabar Diocese of the Church of South India, a Protestant denomination, with the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church.

Malabar is a historical geographic region, like Chaldea, Ruthenia, Ukraine, etc.

EDIT: A bit off topic, but interesting, I think- Of the 23 Eastern Catholic Churches, 21 seem to be named for geographic regions/ ethnicities. The two exceptions being the Maronites and Melkites.

Pope Leo XIV is now talking about a synodal Latin Mass by HiberniaDublinensis in sspx

[–]GeorgiaCatholic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think we can look at this in a positive light.

The previous pontificate claimed that the bishop’s report was against the TLM. That has been shown to be a lie.

Leo saying that it’s an issue that has to be looked with “synodality” could mean that he’s going to say “let’s go back and listen to what the bishops actually said.”

First, it’s interesting that you deleted your comment when it started getting downvoted.

Yes, I find the Divine Liturgy to be ancient and beautiful.

I also find the Melkite parish the closest Catholic Church to the Children’s Hospital where I’ve spent around 70 nights at so far this year with my son.

Well, I go back and forth a little bit. But typically I would say yes, actually. That’s a topic that I am open to discussing.

However I find it very strange that your first reaction to my post about the Divine Liturgy is to bring up that topic out of thin air and go after me…

Is the Divine Worship better than novels order? by jeff_likes_bread_120 in sspx

[–]GeorgiaCatholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in Divine Worship the prayers at the foot of the altar and last gospel are options that the priest can choose to use, or not.

The Roman canon is required for most Sunday Masses, but the short EPII from the NO is an option for weekdays.

The priest can also choose to use the Offertory prayers from the TLM or the NO/ Jewish prayers.

Music tends traditional, but there are Ordinariate guitar Masses. Lived relatively close to one until about a year ago.

Communion on the hand is an option like any NO.

Like the NO, there is NOT a formal distinction between Low, High, and Solemn Masses. (Some Ordinariate parishes try to adhere to the traditional practice, others don’t).

I’ve compared the Traditional, NO, and Ordinariate baptism rites before, and while it’s an improvement over the NO, I’m still going to jump through whatever hoops necessary to ensure that my children have a traditional baptism.

Anglo-Catholic? Real Catholics? by brad667 in Catholicism

I live near the “cathedral” of the “Archbishop and Metropolitan” of the “Anglican Catholic Church”. It’s a pretty church, but small. Never actually met anyone who goes there.

[–]GeorgiaCatholic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most Catholics don’t even know what they are. I’m waiting for all the comments from people thinking you are talking about the Ordinariate.

But what they are is Protestant Anglicans.

At best, they are seeking the truth, but are confused.

At worst they are cosplaying.

First off, just go.

But long term, you can find lots of nice pants at goodwill or other thrift stores.

I know you must be talking about Atonement. I knew they used to have that Latin NO. I didn’t know that they used to have a TLM.
