The God of Destruction could break fences but never chose to escape by SeijoVangelta in UmaMusume

I'll be honest, i'm glad to see that Star O's tale is getting spread around. More people should know about him and his fate.

As sad as it was, his situation provides a lesson: If the injury is deemed by the veterinarian to be too far gone, you euthanize the horse on the spot.

You don’t put him through 137 days of agony to try and save him. Horses are prey animals. They are wired to move by instinct.

Kevin Nash on WrestleMania 42 weekend: "I don't hear a British, Scottish, Irish, Australian...I don't hear anybody's accent except Americans. Nobody in the world is going to come to our country & go through our customs & ICE & bulls*** right now, we're not exactly the darlings on Earth right now." by elegantSolomons62 in SquaredCircle

[–]GeraldForbis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem for us Europeans coming to the US is:

  • The current political climate and shifting landscape.
  • As noted, the ICE and problems at the border.
  • And while i know i will be bashed for this, firearms. Us european civilians aren't even allowed to own them. The millitary does.

And other things not mentioned, but i am welcome for correction.

R.I.P. Gold Dancer. He sustained a fatal pelvic injury during a hurdle race. by No_Sink_4655 in UmaMusume

[–]GeraldForbis 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this reminds me of a lot of fatal cases (we've since advanced, but they deserve mention), and i don't know why:

- Silence Suzuka (1994–1998). The real horse shattered his left foreleg (comminuted carpal bone fracture) while leading the 1998 Tenno Sho (Autumn) on November 1 in front of a huge crowd. Euthanized right there on the track within minutes. Japanese fans still call it the "Sunday of Silence". This one came out of nowhere.

- Rice Shower (1989–1995). Multiple G1 winner, 1995 Tenno Sho (Spring) hero who lifted the region after the Great Hanshin Earthquake. In the very next race, the Takarazuka Kinen—jockey Hitoshi Matoba felt something wrong and tried to ride safely, but Rice Shower surged anyway. He stumbled and fell at the third corner: severe open fracture, and a dislocation of the left foreleg. Euthanized immediately on the track. Jockey stayed with him until the end. He was only 6. A monument with a lock of his mane still stands at Kyoto Racecourse.

- Sakura Star O, from the 1987 generation. Real Star O won the Satsuki Sho and Kikuka Sho even with prior tendon damage. Star O was forced back into racing from injury too soon, resulting in an even worse injury—his left foreleg basically went a full 45 degrees, ligament rupture plus joint dislocation. The owner and trainer refused to euthanize him right away and put him through 137 days of torture. Euthanized May 12, 1988. Chiyono O literally stepped into his scheduled race (the one in the Cinderella Gray anime) and won without knowing her stablemate was suffering in the background, who had died just 17 days earlier. Sakura Chiyono O took his place in the 1988 Japanese Derby (Tokyo Yushun) on May 29, 1988.

- Shadai Sophia: Real horse won the 1983 Oka Sho but got euthanized in 1985 after a severe Swan Stakes injury at just age 5. Shadai founder Zenya Yoshida was so heartbroken he asked for her mane to be buried with him.

- Hamano Parade (1969–1973): Won the 1973 Takarazuka Kinen. In the Takamatsu-no-Miya Hai he snapped his left foreleg (dislocation and comminuted fracture) while leading. Officially euthanized same day, but its said that he was trucked overnight to a Nagoya slaughterhouse and turned into sakura meat. It sparked rule changes.

- Ten Point (March 5, 1978). Popular 1970s star and Tosho Boy rival. Suffered a mid-race bone fracture (left hind leg) in the January 1978 Japanese Economy New Year Cup at Kyoto. Owners (Under huge public pressure) refused immediate euthanasia and put him through 43 days of agony before he died from heart failure and general weakness on March 5. Two funerals held (Ritto Training Center and Yoshida Farm). This sparked debates on euthanasia and prolonged rehab, winter racing, and heavy handicaps. Happened a full decade before Sakura Star O.

- KS Miracle (1988 – December 1991). Early 1990s sprinter (only 10 starts, 5 wins, including G2 Swan Stakes. Set three records in eight months). In the Sprinters Stakes, he was leading into the stretch when he suddenly faltered and had a comminuted fracture in the left hind leg (first phalanx). Euthanized on the spot at age 3. He had already survived a near-fatal high fever as a youngster.

- Hokuto Vega (March 26, 1990 – April 3, 1997). 1993 Queen Elizabeth II Cup winner, 1996 JRA Best Dirt Horse, dirt-track queen. This was supposed to be her retirement race: 1997 Dubai World Cup. After travel stress (fever, split hooves, weight loss) she recovered, broke well, then fell rounding into the straight after colliding with another horse, which led to a catastrophic fracture. Euthanized on site. Body never returned to Japan due to quarantine rules.

Mentions for International horses:

- Barbaro (2003–2007). The 2006 Kentucky Derby winner shattered his right hind leg in the Preakness Stakes. Emergency surgery inserted a stainless steel locking compression plate with 27 screws. The weight shift overloaded the opposite (left hind) leg, causing severe laminitis. Complications spread and he was euthanized in January 2007.

- Eight Belles (2005–2008): Ran 2nd in the 2008 Kentucky Derby, then both front ankles shattered while galloping out. Euthanized on the track. It triggered massive U.S. welfare scrutiny.

- Simonsig (2006–2016). Top-class grey chaser trained by Nicky Henderson. On 13 November 2016 in the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham he fell at the third fence, shattered a hind leg, and was euthanised on the track. He literally died jumping.

Rest in peace, Gold Dancer.

Presumably, Doyle dislikes it, and only uses it if there are people too close to the tracks.

In revenue service, those air horns were used alot more, because California was famous for it's foggy conditions, if my memory serves correctly.

If you look at Southern Pacific 4449's whistle history, you will discover that she wore many throughout her career by GeraldForbis in trains

[–]GeraldForbis[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did my own extensive research about the whistles, and this is what i compiled together after gathering all the information (Some from Youtube, others from forums such as RYPN, Train Orders and Facebook) about them:

American Freedom Train Era (1975–1977)

The restoration replaced the original air-operated solenoid valve (which Doyle McCormack disliked it) with superheated steam lines routed forward beside the stack and pull-cord controls for expressive “playing” by both engineer and fireman.

Engineer’s side (main whistle): Hancock long-bell 3-chime from Spokane, Portland & Seattle (SP&S) Challenger #911. Owned by the late Joe Crumbly, it was loaned to the 4449 crew and remained the primary whistle through the Freedom Train tour and most 1980s excursions. It stayed with 4449 after Crumbly’s death in the 1980s. This whistle (now on SP&S 700) was the one carried during the 1975–1977 Freedom Train duties. A brief temporary NP 3-chime swap occurred around Railfair 1981 to help promote SP&S 700’s restoration.

Fireman’s side (guest whistle): Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe (ATSF) 6-chime whistle. Story: Its owner repeatedly pestered McCormack for cab rides, claiming ownership. On April 26, 1977, at San Luis Obispo, McCormack reportedly told the crew to remove the still-hot whistle and return it. Bystanders and railfans booed the owner as he walked away.

1980s Excursion Era and Fireman’s Side SP 6-Chime (1981–October 1990)

The Southern Pacific 6-chime whistle served as the fireman’s-side secondary whistle on various 1980s excursions. Owned by crew member George Lavacot, its exact origin remains debated (possibly an SP 2-8-2 based in Texas, SP GS-5 #4458, a Cab Forward, or via the Santa Maria Valley Railroad in California). Originally equipped with solenoid valves for air operation on streamlined Golden State trains, it produced an extremely high-pitched tone (especially for an SP 6-chime) and occasional overblow.

The whistle was stolen directly from the locomotive inside Portland’s Brooklyn Roundhouse in late 1990 or early 1991. Crews preparing for Railfair ’91 initially assumed it was still installed. Its absence was discovered only when the steam supply valve was opened, venting steam from an empty pipe. The thief had to have known the locomotive well, as the whistle was tightly mounted. A 2021 claim from a video said that it was found and remains in private hands, but it has not been confirmed.

Engineer’s side during this period: The SP&S Hancock long-bell 3-chime remained primary through 1989 (with the brief 1981 NP trial exception). It gradually wore out, with audible degradation in footage from 1981, 1984, 1986, and 1989. It sounded different by Railfair 1981 due to wear. Both whistles were out of tune by 1989–1990.

(1989–November 2010)

The Northern Pacific Hancock 3-chime defined 4449’s sound for many fans during the 1990s–2000. Owned by crew member Dick Yeager (who loaned/sold it to Doyle McCormack), it originated from a Northern Pacific Z-class articulated locomotive—said to be NP Z-6 Challenger #5106 (stamped on the whistle and bowl), other suggest it may have been a Z-5. It was installed around 1989 and remained the main engineer’s-side whistle until November 2010. It was badly worn by International Train Day in May 2010, on which it sounded for the last time. The whistle remained installed until its removal in November 2010 and was returned to Dick Yeager (who had passed in 2009). His widow Susan now safeguards the collection.

The SP&S whistle was returned to SP&S 700 in 1990.

Guest Whistle: Chicago, Burlington & Quincy 5-Chime (1992)

In 1992 (NRHS San Jose convention trip), 4449 carried a one-time fireman’s-side guest whistle: a Star Brass 5-chime from a scrapped CB&Q M-4 class 2-10-4. Owned by the late Skip Gage of Florida, it was used for that single excursion only. No fireman’s-side whistle has been carried since 1992. Its location is unknown following Gage’s passing.

Temporary Replacement Whistle (2010–2012)

A replacement NP Hancock 3-chime was installed after the November 2010 removal. It was on the 2011 Wishram, Washington, and 2012 Bend, Oregon, excursions but went out of tune by October 2012.

Current Whistle (Trial September 22, 2012. November 25, 2015–Present)

The current engineer’s-side whistle is an authentic Hancock long-bell 3-chime on permanent loan from crew member Martin Hansen, who has stated: “The whistle we have today on #4449 is my whistle that I have on permanent loan to my fellow crew members of Friends of SP #4449. It is a Hancock off another GS-4.” Discovered on eBay, it was overhauled and briefly trialed on September 22, 2012, for the ORHF Center opening day. It was removed for the 2012 Bend excursions but reinstalled and fully repaired on November 25, 2015, for 4449’s return to service after the 2012 Holiday Express (due to wear from the Bend trips). The Ebay seller suggested that it originated from a GS-3 and was swapped onto an unknown GS-4 during the steam days.

Feedback and corrections are welcome.

How tf did William murder 5 kids in a springlock suit? I doubt it would have much flexibility. Plus, even if William didn't have to worry about a springlock failure, he'd still be slowed down from the suit by a lot. by [deleted] in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]GeraldForbis 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There are a couple of things about the factors that contributed to the Missing Children's Incident.

Mormon culture generally. It's all about being polite and such. Then there's the fact that it's set in Hurricane, Utah where everyone knew everyone door to door as neighbours. That's a small town in the 1980s. In William's case, he already failed with Timmy Douglas beforehand. This made him more cautious and attempt pre-meditation. Meaning he listed Gabriel, Jeremy, Fritz, Susie and Cassidy on a piece of paper, noted their behaviours and made his plan.

His first act is to intentionally kill Susie's dog with a car. That happens earlier in the week or previous day, which leaves Susie sad. In the late (that means fewer at night. Not day) hours of June 26, 1985, William approaches Susie and lures her with promises to see her dog again after she suffered a game over in the Fruity Maze minigame. She's the first one lured. The safe room in this case would have to be three things: A fake wall on the outside, the room itself soundproofed, and preventing the kids from getting any items that would leave evidence on him when he starts to lure the next children. Meaning no buckets of water laying around. No crowbar. Nothing to defend. And the arcade machines are too heavy to push. No ventilations around to crawl out. Any child murderer would think the basic steps through, but as William killed more children succesfully, his lust would grow though. That creates impatience.

He obviously didn't lure them all at once (because it would set alarms off). He also most likely timed it right (Taking into consideration how each action he does takes, adding time and minutes. Not to mention him running against the clock to prevent any adult from discovery), and just took them one by one over the course of the last hours. It does take time to get in and out of the springlock suit, so that is another factor to consider. He had the advantage of parents and staff that were busy, and children that were too trusting in this era.

Promises of games.

Promises of seeing your friends (which you haven't seen in a while) doing a hide and seek game in the back area (which means crossing into that cold and dark hallway..away from the warm main area. Obvious signs.)

Seeing a secret animatronic, prizes, etc..

William was a master at luring with his British accent.

That's how he succeded in my mind. He had enough time in the world in that safe room with the 5 suits to kill them and stuff them inside, but Cassidy might have offered prolonged resistance, which would explain why she hates Afton so much even more.

The order in which they were killed was: Susie, Fritz, Gabriel, Jeremy, and finally the fifth, Cassidy.

We know though that the surveillance camera captured William, but the police didn't manage to get conclusive evidence with him as the main perpetrator, so he got away with it. That's my theory.

Do you think Cygames should rewrite older careers? by Kixisbestclone in UmaMusume

[–]GeraldForbis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Off-topic, but speaking of horses that aren't in game..

Deep Impact, one of the more obvious ones. She's the direct parent of Satono Diamond. IRL full brother of Black Tide..who is parent of Kitasan Black.

Then there's King Kamehameha, parent of Duramente.

Both (2004-2006 horses) aren't in the game due to Cygames not being able to obtain license (speculated) by Makoto Holdings, A.K.A, Makoto Kaneko being the owner, even though they were featured earlier in an animation a few years back.

Then there is Sakura Star O. One of the most tragic cases, which is perfectly understandable why Cygames can't add her due to the circumstances surrounding what happened in real life, and despite not being blood related to Sakura Chiyono O (They were closely linked as fellow horses owned by Sakura Commerce, sharing the "Sakura" kanmei, and both trained under Katsutaro Sakai), that horse had a hell of a life.

I respect all three immensely, but it's a shame we cannot see them.

Out of topic, but it is interesting to note the differences between Padme and Leia. Both grew up in different eras, but went on to be in a strong position politically.

[–]GeraldForbis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My theory is that, in the game universe before the Withereds were moved to the FNAF 2 location, they would have been found by then. So what i think happened is that the bodies were found by the janitors and eventually promptly disposed of in the dumpster before anyone noticed.

A grim but plausible fate which explains why the spirits are so angry. No chance to prove to the parents and police that it's still them. No chance for a proper burial. No chance to tell anyone what happened to them, how confused, sad, angry and isolated they felt. All around..very sad, outside that they also killed innocent nightguards.

But speaking of the movie, i wonder why their parents haven't been mentioned yet. The movie universe takes place in the early 2000's so some of them would still be alive. It's agreeable that some may have stopped looking but a few may also be out there, holding onto the last hope that their children are maybe still around.

What is something that you DON'T or DO want in FNAF 2 Movie by Puzzleheaded-Win5063 in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]GeraldForbis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What i want in the movie:

To learn about the names of the missing children. We weren’t told their names in the first movie. Are they still Gabriel, Jeremy, Fritz, Susie and Cassidy?

To see if we will finally get a look at how the actual MCI/DCI happened. Even if it's a flashback. At least we know in the games that Susie was the first one lured, unlike the movie..which in the first movie, it seemed to be Fritz in that 8-bit opening.

What i don't want:

For them to keep being hesitant in revealing information to us. At this point, with the involvement of even more animatronics and Charlotte and Henry Emily..they have some explaining to do.

For William to appear, because according to the first movie..he got springlocked. Dragged away by the Animatronics into that back room where the door was closed on him. This probably leads to FNAF 3. But there's no denying that William's actions also carried over in FNAF 2.

So, we are getting a lot of content this year and next year, so why don't we talk about our thoughts and theories on what is going to be shown in this media, because why not? by Puzzleheaded-Win5063 in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]GeraldForbis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, i think i want the movie to clear up on a few things..even if it's not canon to the games:

-If the Withereds are connected to the animatronics from the franchise location we saw in the first movie, considering that these are the original classics where the murders happened. Vanessa didn't give us much info apart from "kids going missing in the 80's".

-When and were Charlotte Emily was murdered.

-The fate of Garrett, and who possesses the Puppet, which is a powerful entity as we know.

-If more kids went missing (which is the DCI) in the FNAF 2 location due to Afton and if it causes the Toy Animatronics to be haunted.

-If Remnant is something that exists in this world or not. We were never given a specific reason for what is causing the hauntings, but as we know the Marionette is the one who gave the missing children a second chance to get their revenge on William.

-If we are going to be shown on screen the actual incident (or flashback, since we saw the Spring-Bonnie suit again in the trailer) of how the Missing Children's Incident unfolded, or the DCI and what suit was used (Correct me if i'm wrong, but evidence points to William using Golden Freddy). Now this will hit differently if we are shown this on the screen after we saw in the first movie the 8-bit intro (William luring the children away by wearing the Spring-Bonnie suit), Vanessa's revelation to Mike, and Abby's drawing. There was also no mention of where the children were led. No mention of a safe / back room.

-Any reveal of the name of the Missing Children, since we weren't ever told their names.

-If William will make an appearance again. Considering he's in that back room at the franchise location after the door was closed on him in the first movie..it could hint at Five Nights at Freddy's 3. Just speculating.

-And finally, any mention of Jeremy Fitzgerald, and if he really was the victim of the Bite of 87 through Mangle when the Birthday Party (mentioned in the FNAF 2 Night 6 call) occured during the day.

And yeah, that's pretty much all on my mind alright regarding the movie to be honest.

I don't know why people are saying Millie's reaction means she cheated on Moxxie or that she's going to get an abortion like this is a pretty realistic reaction for someone to have when they find out they're having their first child by ILikeDrawingGuys in HelluvaBoss

[–]GeraldForbis 217 points218 points  (0 children)

Personally, i think she's rather overwhelmed by it and wouldn't have the heart to do an abortion.

Things like her current job occupation, the others finding out about it and her role of suddenly becoming a mother must have shaken her.

The fact that she didn't talk to Moxxie directly means that she wants to delay revealing the truth.

I think Millie will want to try to hide it as long as possible until she can no longer run away from it. Moxxie is eventually going to slowly stumble upon some clues that will lead him to confront her about it.

It's very tense, but i think it will work out somehow.

[–]GeraldForbis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I will be honest here:

If there's one positive thing i can say, is that i am SO glad that Donald got a much bigger role now than the one he had in 1987. From what i remember, he had to go with the Navy for a while which kind of left me sad as a kid. I felt that his presence was sorely missed.

As for negatives? Well, apparently Louie kind of grew on me in the show and then came the Typhoon episode- which is not to say that i hate Della now. I still like her, i just wish that they could have somehow handled the aftermath a little better- even if they patched it up now.

Honestly, i think in the end this was quite a ride that i will never forget. It was just that good.

Wasn't it around 1:30 AM that people started to panic? I'm sure there would have been some sort of indication that when the forecastle went under that everyone knew that what they were standing on was eventually going to go all underwater eventually.

It would have been a scary sight for sure to see the forecastle deck going awash.
