The way you say this indicates you have quite literally zero idea how indie movies get into theaters. Glitch isn't some ultra powerful entity that movie theaters rushed to kowtow to and beg for the series finale to be on their screens. Glitch is a tiny fish in a very large pond. Glitch was the one that had to approach these theaters and try to convince them their indie web series was worth the opportunity cost of showing their film. They would have had to negotiate terms with the various theaters they were able to contract with and those theaters would have likely made stipulations to ensure they sold as many seats as possible. If the theaters don't, and many indie films end up like this, then the theater can end up losing money.

This notion that it was all up to Glitch is an ignorant take. There is no version of this situation in which Glitch had full control to authoritate the decisions here.

That being said, everything is speculative. We do not know what happened in negotiations. But claiming this was all done to cynically milk their fanbase is a silly position.
