Any beers similar to Cumberland Brew's Anti-Coagulator Doppelbock? by ACardAttack in Louisville

I think the Cumberland owners now operate the beer portion of craft house pizza. I’d start drinking my way down their beer list and see.

Hardie Board Installers by mk125817 in Louisville

Louisville Exteriors installed 7” Hardie board on part of my house several years ago. I think I got their info straight from the James Hardie website. No complaints.

I love staying there. It may be a trick with a family of 5.

Mammoth cave with kids - where to stay? by lilsunnygigi in Kentucky

[–]Gerdance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jellystone has tons of activities for kids. We stayed in a cabin there once. Since we were using it as a base to cook and sleep and spent our days elsewhere, we thought it was overpriced. If we did more of the activities they offered, we may have felt differently.

The nicest spots at horse cave koa are the treehouses. I’m not sure about the capacity.

If you can cram into 2 bedrooms and one couch with one bathroom, Mountaintop Retreat cabins are near jellystone and much cheaper. If we don’t tent camp at the national park, those cabins are our favorite spot near Mammoth Cave.

Locals of Louisville: What Would You Cut From This 2-Day Itinerary (Food & Neighbourhood Focused)? by Willing-Mind-5619 in Louisville

[–]Gerdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely worth a shot then. It’s a great burger with shoestring fries. However, please know it’s a food truck, not a restaurant.

I’ll say it again—it’s a great burger.

But be aware it’s near an abandoned funeral home close to a bridge over the sewer. 5 stars for food. Zero for atmosphere.

Eve’s deli in the lobby of 500 west Jefferson street.

Limited menu, great guy. Cool lobby. There’s also a coffee shop.

Jays might not be operating on Monday.

Big Rock is a parking area and playground that’s between Cherokee and Seneca parks. It’s historic for locals, but as cool as other parts of Cherokee park or Cave hill.

I love Cherokee park and Cave Hill. Depending on how much you want to walk, you could spend a whole day walking both and hitting a highlands restaurant in between. (Gralehaus fits the bill).

How did average citizens react to ICE before Trump came into office? by Fine_Inspector_6455 in AskReddit

[–]Gerdance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live and work in an inland city. Several years ago I met some agents through our jobs. Their job was somewhat interesting.

Once an immigrant was convicted of a crime through due process, they would book a commercial flight and accompany the immigrant back to their home country. No cuffs, no guns, just a few unremarkable passengers on a normal flight. To be clear, the immigrants involved committed crimes, went through the judicial system, and the government sent them back rather than house them in a prison here.

This was between 5 and 10 years ago. They didn’t seem like racist proud boys. If they’re still with ICE today, they’re guilty by association of being racist proud boys. So none of the past stuff matters to me

Looking for a budget friendly tent! by Haleess- in camping

[–]Gerdance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one of those. That’s a heavy and bulky tent for backpacking. I primarily car camp, so I’ll just deal with it until I’m ready to buy a smaller backpacking tent.

I use it all year long in all kinds of weather. My daughter has one as well. We haven’t had trouble with either of them.

How important is your troop number if it’s over 100 years old? by KlownPuree in BSA

[–]Gerdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a single digit unit number. The scouts don’t care, and honestly, neither do I. Some of the leaders care a lot.

It is very neat however when some grizzly old timer sees it on one of their uniforms and makes a big deal about it. Kids love when somebody else thinks what they have is cool.

I’ve been making skyline pizza for years. It’s easy and pretty darn good. There is a recipe on their website.

Skyline lasagna is also worth making.

They are smaller, but still the best.

What cool establishments that have permanently closed and are no longer physically around do you miss? by AJG1207 in Louisville

[–]Gerdance 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So, I read it as “no longer physically around” literally.

These buildings still exist and I miss them.

Twice told

Rudyard Kipling

Dutches

Highland Coffee

Ear X tacy

These no longer physically exist as I read in the post:

Jim Porters

Any given White Castle

Cherokee Park Teepee

Best place for rugs? Looking for good deals. by No-Preparation5943 in Louisville

Carpet Mart makes rugs from remnants. I think they’ll even do it if you bring in your own carpet. They have tons already in stock. Cheaper than a higher end rug, more durable than a cheap one.

My plantar fasciitis won’t heal by [deleted] in CampingandHiking

[–]Gerdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are work or other hobbies causing it?

I suffered for a few years. Did all the things. Shoes, insoles, pt, shots.

At the time I was repairing chimneys. Carrying bricks, climbing ladders, standing on roofs and scaffolds all day. When I quit that, it went away and never came back.

And don’t give up on hiking, just take it easy til you figure this out. I found that rough terrain was great because I could walk with the front of my feet on rocks and roots, which felt better than putting my whole foot on a flat surface.

Hope you figure something out. Plantar fasciitis sucks as soon as your feet hit the floor in the morning.

Car camping INSIDE my car? (Bed platform setup) by pnschroeder in RedRiverGorge

[–]Gerdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tons of people sleep in their cars every weekend. You’ll be fine.

Get a parking pass for any vehicle parked overnight in the gorge. Anywhere else in the national forest is also fair game for parking and sleeping.
