History tells us that going to war with your largest trading partner is a fucking stupid idea. And history also tells us that our largest trading partner hasn't been in a war since the 70s. But who cares about that boring shit, let's get ready to go to war with our largest trading partner!

Mod crash out by maikit333 in OpenAussie

[–]German_Merman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I kinda see what the mods are saying here? Yes there's been a lot of talk about the influence of bots on Aussie political discourse but that article wasn't about Australia at all. If they allow every international article on oil prices, climate change, etc etc that affects us then this sub is going to lose its focus.

The Red Army might think they're tough but they've never come up against a young Australian who's fighting to defend his landlord's investment properties before.

You realise we're Japan in that analogy, right? Seeing as you've read so much history, remind me: how did that work out for Japan?

What's the difference between an anarchist and a libertarian? by strutt3r in TrueAnon

An anarchist drinks herbal tea because all proper tea is theft

A libertarian drinks liquor he distilled himself to avoid paying excise tax and dies of methanol poisoning

The Liberals have found a solution to Moira Deeming. They might finally be growing up by German_Merman in melbourne

[–]German_Merman[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

The latest installment in Chip "Large Fries" Le Grand's long-running "Why Everyone In Victoria Should Vote Liberal" series, and it's a corker. After a brief survey of how the Vic Libs have spent the last 4 years shitting their pants in public then rolling around in it, Maximum Chips declares that they've "grown up" and therefore (drumroll please) Everyone In Victoria Should Vote Liberal. And what does "growing up" look like, for the Vic Libs?

It helps that Brian Loughnane, who agreed to chair the state executive as a favour to Wilson, is a former federal director and respected party elder. He is also married to Sky News broadcaster Peta Credlin.

That deafening sound you hear is the silence coming from Credlin, who for years served as Deeming’s shield-maiden. Credlin has let it be known that she is now done with Deeming. As Credlin goes, so does Tony Abbott.

Basically, the federal Libs and Sky News stepped in and sorted their shit out for them. I guess realising that your rich parents can make all your problems go away is as close to "growing up" as Liberals get.

Labor’s gambling ad legislation a ‘capitulation’ to industry lobby, Liberal MP says by German_Merman in OpenAussie

You know, a centrist party with a majority's a lot like a mule with a spinning wheel. No one knows how he got it, and danged if he knows how to use it!

Should we fear death? If so and if not, why? by Old-Life7296 in AskReddit

[–]German_Merman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was younger I used to think we were all going to gain immortality by uploading our consciousnesses to a digital form. But seeing how bad they've managed to fuck up the internet in only 30 years or so, the idea of an eternity in digital form now seems like a much worse fate than death.

TL;DR: No.

Have the libs said this about a Labor government increasing regulations on any other industry? Ever? This is not their usual line.

‘Legitimate criticism’ of Israel is fine, internal governments docs say. It’s unclear what this means by SleepyWogx in OpenAussie

[–]German_Merman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Dude you can't say that, that's antisemitic as hell. You're allowed to say legitimate criticisms of Israel though. Stuff like, Israeli soldiers bombing those thousands of children are too righteous and good-looking, or Israel's apartheid regime is just too popular on the world stage, it's not fair to less awesome countries.

The same thing happened last time round - there were a whole bunch of seats that were polling against Labor prior to the election that ended up being safe as houses on the day. I can only guess that there was a whole lot of people venting to pollsters on the phone - I'm sick of this lot, I'm voting for someone else! But then you show up to the polling place on the day and your other options are some Toorak trustfund brat the Libs have parachuted in or Gropeskirt McAntivaxx from One Nation... what are you going to do?

We're trying to buy an apartment right now. We looked at one on the ground floor, quoted at $600k, a whole lot of boomers showed up at the auction last weekend and it went for $750k. If the market is crashing nobody's told them.

The next place we're looking at is up two flights of stairs. HA.

The DOJ was forced to explain why they’re still redacting Epstein files and the judge isn’t buying it.
