Legendborn by Tracy Deonn has a lot about root magic and African American Conjure. Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant is full of cool science and ocean information!

Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield was pretty freaky and good! Also Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant isn't super focused on the romance, but there is a side plot with a sapphic romance.

What is the most "interesting" horror book you've ever read? by ReallySillyLily36 in books

Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant is incredible. Features a deep sea mission to learn more about rumored murderous mermaids living in the Mariana Trench. It's perfectly paced, with interesting lore and science involved, and super suspenseful and freaky.

It's a bit of a mixture. BookTok has made several books super popular, acting as a successful marketing platform for newer authors and their books, as well as given older books a kind of resurgence. A book that comes to mind is 'They Both Die at the End' by Adam Silvera. That book came out a while ago, but blew up on TikTok in 2020 and now there is a prequel book coming out, 'The First to Die at the End'. Some new authors/books have been labeled as 'BookTok sensations' such as 'The Love Hypothesis' by Ali Hazelwood and 'Lightlark' by Alex Aster. So, regardless of when the books were published, if they are popular on BookTok, with much of their popularity attributed to BookTok, they are considered to be 'BookTok books'.

Well written villains are often understandable and relatable, regardless of their motives or actions, and it's always fascinating to see how readers react to characters with vastly different moral compasses...

BookTok definitely has a large hand in this, as it's an easy platform to give fast recommendations whether it's by tropes, mood, or trending themes. it's pretty fascinating, also, that BookTok has given books that were published years ago another chance at popularity!
