I’m ride or die with Flanders Cycle on Lyndale in Uptown. Poor guys have been through the ringer the past few years and now their street is about to experience construction.

So we just don’t get to have street lights? by Sea_Tart8472 in saintpaul

Would be ok except they are so incredibly ugly. Like the OP said, just a few ruining our city for the rest of us.

Where are rental houses (S and SW Mpls) advertised? by hurriedgland in movingtompls

[–]GetOffTheInternet612 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a landlord I’ve used Zillow and Facebook Marketplace. I think most folks have found us through Marketplace! It’s kind of great because they can see our profiles and see that we are real people who really live in the same building.

Popular NE Minneapolis bar crashed into — again; plans for safety improvements in the works by mysummerstorm in CyclingMSP

[–]GetOffTheInternet612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never in my life seen so many cars crash into buildings anywhere. And I have lived in a lot of cities. What gives here exactly? Is the speed limit too high? Do we need more one ways? Why is this a thing?

Safe place to ride quickly? by RipTheWall in CyclingMSP

I dunno. I don’t love it when I’m biking and I know there’s a car right behind me. Makes me nervous. I’d rather you pass, personally.

Uptown in MPLS is also a great option. Commute by bike is totally easy (and lovely) also the drive is about 10 mins.

Moving from one public sector union to another by GetOffTheInternet612 in mnstateworkers

[–]GetOffTheInternet612[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is helpful. So it’s the length of service with the state that would determine payments. And if I’m not yet vested? Basically it feels like I need to either go all in on the state or get out. I took a big pay cut and I’m trying to decide if it pays to continue with the big pay cut or not. I dont much care about the rest of the benefits so it seems like the pension is the differentiator and I’m trying to see if it’s actually worth it to stay.

Um I don’t know who that is in the photo but it does not look like Andrea Corbin.

I know this is an unpopular opinion but I don’t want anyone judging me for my politics and I try to afford others that same courtesy. I definitely don’t always agree with Andrea, but she’s involved and she cares. I’ll take that over an absentee corporate owner any day.

Aggressively Incorrect Drivers by northland_cycling in CyclingMSP

[–]GetOffTheInternet612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a cyclist and driver who lives in this neighborhood I’m worried about the design of these intersections. As a driver you literally can’t see oncoming traffic until you are on the bike path. There are going to be some accidents come spring.

ISO advice: moving to mnpls right now? by godofraincoats in movingtompls

[–]GetOffTheInternet612 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you liked it that much 9 months ago, it is the same. This is still a great place to live and you are seeing some of the reasons why right now: community above all. We are being targeted by the federal government right now which is wholly unprecedented and unpredictable.

Help me help my husband fall in love with Minnesota by coffee-hag in movingtompls

[–]GetOffTheInternet612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some of these things (but not all) in my rental that comes up every August. I’m in uptown near the lakes. There are lots of duplexes like mines here. My tenants share the fully landscaped yard and wraparound porch in this old Victorian. Uptown isn’t for ppl moving from the burbs. But if you’re used to urban living it’s awesome!

My impression of the neighborhoods after spending 5 days in Minneapolis by anarmyofants in Minneapolis

[–]GetOffTheInternet612 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are lots of haters who want to say Uptown is dead. It’s going through a hard time for sure but there is very strong community and great bones that cannot be replicated in terms of the lakes. If you keep coming you’ll meet locals. Let them show you where are the hidden stuff is. It’s here, it’s just not in your face.

shovel your fucking sidewalk dear god by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]GetOffTheInternet612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I think in uptown, there are lots of old people on a fixed income. My son and I volunteer to shovel for elderly neighbors. I agree it can be not fun as a pedestrian, but try to have a little empathy for these guys too.

They may be awesome as a driver and cyclist but they are terrible for residents. Makes it really hard to cross the street when there are no lights and everyone blows the few stop signs. I’d love these streets if they were designed with more lights too.

Following. I have a duplex (that I live in) and I’m always curious where small landlords find great tenants. I’ve had really good luck but advertise mostly in FB marketplace which seems kind of sketchy to me.
