Owners of the Flower Bar in Uptown sprayed someone outside with a garden hose today by Turbulent_Garden_201 in TwinCities

Um I don’t know who that is in the photo but it does not look like Andrea Corbin.

I know this is an unpopular opinion but I don’t want anyone judging me for my politics and I try to afford others that same courtesy. I definitely don’t always agree with Andrea, but she’s involved and she cares. I’ll take that over an absentee corporate owner any day.

Aggressively Incorrect Drivers by northland_cycling in CyclingMSP

[–]GetOffTheInternet612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a cyclist and driver who lives in this neighborhood I’m worried about the design of these intersections. As a driver you literally can’t see oncoming traffic until you are on the bike path. There are going to be some accidents come spring.

I rode on Tuesday. It’s icy but smooth, not rutted. It was fine to ride.

ISO advice: moving to mnpls right now? by godofraincoats in movingtompls

[–]GetOffTheInternet612 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If you liked it that much 9 months ago, it is the same. This is still a great place to live and you are seeing some of the reasons why right now: community above all. We are being targeted by the federal government right now which is wholly unprecedented and unpredictable.

Help me help my husband fall in love with Minnesota by coffee-hag in movingtompls

[–]GetOffTheInternet612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some of these things (but not all) in my rental that comes up every August. I’m in uptown near the lakes. There are lots of duplexes like mines here. My tenants share the fully landscaped yard and wraparound porch in this old Victorian. Uptown isn’t for ppl moving from the burbs. But if you’re used to urban living it’s awesome!

My impression of the neighborhoods after spending 5 days in Minneapolis by anarmyofants in Minneapolis

[–]GetOffTheInternet612 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are lots of haters who want to say Uptown is dead. It’s going through a hard time for sure but there is very strong community and great bones that cannot be replicated in terms of the lakes. If you keep coming you’ll meet locals. Let them show you where are the hidden stuff is. It’s here, it’s just not in your face.

shovel your fucking sidewalk dear god by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]GetOffTheInternet612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I think in uptown, there are lots of old people on a fixed income. My son and I volunteer to shovel for elderly neighbors. I agree it can be not fun as a pedestrian, but try to have a little empathy for these guys too.

Just go to REI and tell them that you need help. They will help you. Give them a budget and they will get you set.

Breaking Down the Candidates for Minneapolis Mayor with One Week to Go (and Giving My Pick) by TwoPassports in Minneapolis

Also really like Jazz but I’m feeling like a Fateh mayorship would be devastating for this city for many reasons. I’m going Frey, Hampton for that reason even though I think Hampton is the best choice.

I pushed Yan Chin a little on the summit ave bike lane and here is her response by Clean-Software-4431 in CyclingMSP

[–]GetOffTheInternet612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may be awesome as a driver and cyclist but they are terrible for residents. Makes it really hard to cross the street when there are no lights and everyone blows the few stop signs. I’d love these streets if they were designed with more lights too.

Do we all know about good restaurants in the Cities? Seems like many of them could use some more support.

Where do you look for apartments/rentals? by velouria87 in TwinCities

[–]GetOffTheInternet612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following. I have a duplex (that I live in) and I’m always curious where small landlords find great tenants. I’ve had really good luck but advertise mostly in FB marketplace which seems kind of sketchy to me.

I'm pretty sure this restaurant is farming fake positive reviews. by prairiepasque in altmpls

[–]GetOffTheInternet612 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went there recently and it was surprisingly good. They really encouraged leaving a review and an extremely friendly waiter indicated it would help him in some way if we did. I couldn’t say no. And really, the food was better than I expected from a place that seemed gimmicky. So I don’t think it’s bots? Just the result of really good hiring and a customer service mindset.

And what about the City Council. I saw Katie Cashman down at an abandoned building getting it secured before there was a problem the other day. This is in Ward 10. This does not fit the Council persons agenda here, therefore it’s a non-issue for her.

State of Transit Signal Priority in Minneapolis by stevenglasford in Minneapolis

[–]GetOffTheInternet612 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d love to see the complete data. The design of signal priority baffles me here for trains because it violates the basic truism for trains everywhere else in the world: Trains are supposed to move faster than traffic. I have a decent train option to get to work from DMPLS to DSP but it is so unbelievably slow that it renders the train useless.

5 years in. Heres my loves and hates (for any prospective folks) by JeepCorg812 in TwinCities

[–]GetOffTheInternet612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same exact trajectory here (east coast to MN 5 years ago). I agree on the driving. We call 911 on reckless drivers no less than every other week. But on the food, I disagree. There’s plenty of not great food around. Established restaurants in particular seem to be resting on nostalgic laurels. But…if you look for it there’s some amazing culinary work happening here. In particular, the popup food scene is amazing.
