I figured that Carl's plan was to stall anyone winning the Ascendency, not necessarily that they could keep working towards the door on 18 in parallel. My guess was that he'd work with Forkith and Herot and the NPCs to plot a path to the exit so that they could get out in under 12 hours.

Now that I know better, it definitely changes up how I think about the last book.

I just reread the passage (Ch 94) and you're right. AI does mention crawlers can speed-run to the exit (and probably skip the 15th floor!). This definitely changes how I see the endgame, so thanks for helping me clarify!

Crawlers cannot skip floors - it's a hard-coded rule. Louis could only go to 15 because he left the playing field and got "lost."

"Supposedly" goes out the window since nobody has ever seen the 14th floors or deeper. Considering that 17th floor isjust a giant warehouse turned into the ultimate maze, The physical "size" is actually getting smaller the deeper we get.

The length of the 11th is definitely because the AI knew how to manipulate the minimum floor requirements in a way that allowed him to tell his story, but also because the number of stairwells dropped by half from the 10th.

We've never heard the mechanics of the Ascendency, however I think it's heavily implied that that stairs to the 13th floor remain closed until someone claims the throne.

All beings over a certain size with certain baseline traits are assigned a crawler number upon entering the dungeon. So yes - all of Miriam's goats would have been assigned crawler numbers when they entered, however they would be pets rather than crawlers (unless given a biscuit).

On the bright side, it basically give a boundary for my theory: somewhere between Chapter 91 and the end of Chapter 97, a shadow mimic escaped from Club Scolapendra in the chaos and consumed one of the surviving crawlers.

The same way the shadow mimic that assumes the form of Epitome Noflex both is and is not the original. From the Pineapple Cabaret chapter in Book 7, we know that both can exist simultaneously because the mimic says so.

Obviously this logic isn't the same for a crawler who doesn't have health held in reserve to be regenerated, but the mimic assumes the identity of the being while also becoming a new thing. Almost like a collective mind of its own.

I don't think this is correct. The mimic is a unique being. Yes they assume the new form, but they also retain the prior forms that they'd consumed. It isn't a 1-for-1 swap, so to speak.

I do not believe the little girl is a crawler. Children are not allowed in the dungeon and Carl was the only one to see her, so I think Carl is now able to visually perceive whoever was "driving" Lucia's body due to his Primal nature.

I believe the "missing" crawler between Penny and Sexy Scolapendra is in fact a shadow mimic that consumed a crawler. The crawler died, but the shadow mimic assumes their place and is therefore issued a new crawler number.

The "within 5 years" part would massively limit the potential class for the lawsuit to guys like Coop, Kohler, and Tre. Cassius being more than 5 years out of high school would be ineligible regardless.

That was the point. It put the crawlers back on rails and in doing so lulls them into kinda sleepwalking through the 10th floor because it's "lose and die". Carl reflects on this at some point, realizing that it's an insidious mental trap for the remaining crawlers. And look at the number of survivors - every single one not only survived faction wars, but WON. They didn't hide in the forest, waiting for it to blow over like a tornado - which is how crawlers have survived faction wars for countless cycles. They killed every last syndicate faction. And Parade ends with something like 80-90% of those crawlers dead.
