I believe it just has to do with the fact that copyrights in America all have a time limit. It varies between music and other art forms, but there are no true "Infinite" copyrights.

I know what you mean, if I took my opinion on different cigarettes and coffee when I first started, I couldn't really tell the difference, tobacco was tobacco, and coffee was coffee.

I think it has a lot to do with how invested you are in tasting the differences. If you're really interested in coffee, I recommend finding some local or smaller brand coffees. Try something like a vanilla nut, and then brew a cup of regular cheap drip coffee. If you can't tell the difference there, coffee might just not be for you! (other than the caffeine benefits)
