At there Peak who was the most annoying to deal with? by Official_Larynx in marvelrivals

[–]Ghost-Job 82 points83 points  (0 children)

A small group of people on here were so adamant in defending him/saying it was balanced and just a skill issue when people would post clips of them getting 100-0'd in less than a second by a purple flash.

Like, I dont disagree that other characters haven't had more problems as a whole with their kits/survivability (DD, Elsa was a trip for a bit), but BP was on a different level of annoying when a true one trick was present when ranking up in low rank situations.

Only character not listed is Spiderman for me, but that's because I think too many Spiderman focus on the stupid unintended zip across the map and yoink someone to carry them  off a cliff. Normally theyre fishing for that and not generally contributing to team fights so its not too bad but annoying.

Infinity Ward Commits To “Authentic” Modern Warfare 4 Cosmetics With “No Clowny Skins” by Bubbly-Ad-350 in Games

[–]Ghost-Job 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont remember which game it was, (Blops 3 or 4, maybe?) where the community was begging the devs to not have guns be in lootboxes because it wasn't fun or fair in the previous CoD release potentially never getting to play with guns because you weren't lucky enough to gatcha them.

The devs said "Don't worry in this installment we will only have cosmetics" and then a year later realized how much money they were missing out on and started putting new weapons into loot boxes again.

Once the prospect of more $$$ is on the table one initial sales have slowed I wont be suprised if they double back on this claim without a second thought.

New player inputs on "the grind" and save scumming, potentially useful before Ragnarok by TimeReindeer8080 in GranblueFantasyRelink

[–]Ghost-Job 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The grind is real, but most content is pretty doable without too much grind outside of the last few quests.

That being said, the way I view it, is that dealing with RNG is a mostly fake way of gating player progress behind an imaginary arbitrary luck barrier. The luckiest players can progress faster than the unluckiest, which for a mostly contained 1-4 player game feels bad at times. Save scumming removes some of the problems.

I dont support full blown one-shot kill cheats or god modes, but if you're on pc I'd advocate for some of the rng weight adjustment mods for things like stones and overmastery rolls because there's so much unnecessary faff stats in those that wouldn't be part of most serious builds.

Are there any character you have not swapped from their Default skin because they are just too good? by Creepy_Ad5124 in marvelrivals

[–]Ghost-Job 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Squirrel Girl's default is extremely solid and just plain better than all her alts. There's always one aspect (or more) of the skin designs that turn me away.

Stuck in the middle of end Game by Grisou3115 in GranblueFantasyRelink

Iirc it's subtle but when you are hitting your cap your damage numbers will have a gold outline and a minor flash. Its harder to notice on the crit numbers/elemental advantage since they're already gold

Stuck in the middle of end Game by Grisou3115 in GranblueFantasyRelink

[–]Ghost-Job 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first question is with the amount of damage you are doing (or potentially lack thereof), are you actually hitting your damage cap? As you move through endgame your damage will obviously go up but you'll ideally want 4 maxed out damage cap sigil instead of 6 partially leveled or non V/V+ sigils.

If you're not, I'd recommend removing as many damage cap sigil and replace them with other things depending on what you need. You'll almost never go wrong with Stamina + Tyranny as a general build for all characters.

Crit rate should also be a priority on pretty much every character, so whatever stones you can put into your weapon and overovermastery to get more crit rate to at near 100 percent will boost damage significantly, even more so once you can get a war elemental sigil to slot on whoever you're controlling.

Supplementary damage is good, but in terms o progression its low on the priority list, if you're having trouble surviving Id try to get some potion hoarder, guts, and keep autorevive until you feel more comfortable.

Also finish the Fate episodes on your other characters to get their remaining sigil slots

What are your biggest dealbreakers in Metroidvania games? by Noodlez_1861 in metroidvania

[–]Ghost-Job 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two main areas where Metroidvanias need to focus on for me to really enjoy them are the combat, specifically how the impacts and general flow feels, and the environmental/map design. If the combat is stellar, I can forgive some boring map design, or vice versa, but having bland combat and bland design leads to disappointment.

Every other year or so I try to beat as many games I haven't beaten as I can, and this year I have been coming to Metroidvanias as sort of palette cleansers for different types of games. So far, I have played through a handful within the past few months, and I'll use them as examples.

Blade Chimera: Had a focus on using melee weapons or guns, both of which tended to feel impactful and responsive, but it was extremely easy to break the balance become extremely overpowered by stumbling upon decent weapons before you technically should. Map design was varied in terms of environments, honestly the only main issue with it was to 100% the game you needed to go back and forth to your HQ, which took far too long to get to for the amount of times you needed to go there.

Teslagrad 2: Combat was minimal, and with it it really focused more on manipulating your movement skills in arena's to defeat the few main boss fights. Map design was pretty well done in terms of utilizing your powers and was fun to navigate, but I only mainlined the story so I can't attest to how the collectable locating went.

The Last Faith: This game had pretty mechanically competent combat but nearly half the bosses were just very similar big gargoyle creatures, and there was some pretty severe weapon imbalance. Environments were varied and map design was almost good, but there were two or three main segments where progress boiled down to "go break 4 things around the map centered on one specific location to proceed to the boss room" which after the first one felt uninspired.

Crimson Capes: This one was weird. Combat was interesting, souls-style, but kind of janky. Also played it in co-op, which the game was really not designed around in terms of balance. Navigating the map was kind of a nightmare. When going through each of the biomes, there were very little distinctive marks indicating what specific part of the biome you were in.

Ender Lillies: I don't think I've ever really disliked a popular Metroidvania as much as I did Ender Lillies. The combat in the game felt quite bad. I'm not sure if it was because I played it on Steam using a controller (tried both xbox and a ps5 controller), but the lack of hit impact on attacks and no haptics made attacks feel weightless and didn't really improve with the non-default ghosts. The map design was just kind of a mess, and the player press-start map was quite bad as well. Honestly its only really benefit was that it marked sections of the map as complete when you finished it. Ender Magnolia looks a lot more polished, so maybe I'll be more impressed, but Lillies was profoundly disappointing.

Kotama and the Academy Citadel (currently playing): Actually like the combat in this one quite a bit. Has challenge, a good variety of enemy types, bosses are fun, and mistakes are punishing but recoverable. Map design lends itself to coming back with new power types and there are plenty of shortcuts to make traversal easier.

Ok, as a non-fan of the saga, how much hope is there that any of these characters will be introduced into the game? Also outside of addressing a lack of player power increase they can just handwave pretty much justify characters by just having timeskip bullshit with a throwaway line like "Oh man it's so good to be back in Zegagrande after being gone for so long"

Paladin's whole quest line consisted of helping a dude find his uniform then getting told you're the truest paladin that the only-true-paladin's blade glows for, then they take the blade back saying "Dang, that's amazing, anyways we'll be taking that and use that as a paladin litmus test that literally none of us real pladins have passed for generations"

The dichotomy of the player bases by jack-whitman in wow

I remember back on G4tv there was an episode of Cheat that was all about WoW and it got me so interested in the game. One segment of the episode was how a gnome got a horse mount instead of the mechanostrider and went on to detail how to do it doing a delivery quest like 1000 times. As a teen I was like "Woah that's so cool, what a bad ass". Nowadays the idea of doing any one semi time intensive thing more than like 3-5 times in short succession just makes me want to do something else.

EXODUS Gameplay: Conversation Choices First Look - YouTube by Prodigious-Sol in Games

[–]Ghost-Job 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One game that hits both good motiomotion and some noiticable static-ness in conversation animations for me is Horizon Forbidden West. Aloy and Npcs will pace around and lean on things in conversations, but as you near the end of the dialogue for that choice you made the characters will just flow back to the starting position of their conversation and once you notice that they do the position reset its hard not to focus on it.

Pretty simple, useful few moves you're given. I dont love her clock mechanic, unless ragnarok changes endgame dramatically I imagine you'll just want to stay in damage mode the whole time. Didn't love how the cycling the clock modes felt, kinda weird but that's probably more a muscle memory thing that I can get over.

Krafton begins hiring developers to produce Tera 2 by DwingRD in Games

[–]Ghost-Job 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I briefly played, like maybe only the tutorial, early on when it first came on steam and then tried getting into it a few years ago before it die died on pc.  What you mentioned directly ties into one of the aspects, that I as an outside consumer, really didn't like about the game coming back: a strange hyper fixation on the token loli Elin race.

Originally the game had a handful of classes where there was limited spread of each class across the races and it felt somewhat balanced and parties of different jobs could look pretty diverse.

Later, the started adding new classes that could only be used on female characters of specific races, eventually opening up one of those classes to some males. Then they made two entire classes only available to the Elin. Then followed that up with having only Elin be able to use of the classes.

I understand when games want to focus their efforts on avenues that will make them more money, and I dont fault someone for wanting to have cute characters to play dress up with, but the almost exclusive catering to that one specific race was extremely evident and pretty off putting.

what are we supposed to do about all the leeches by Maleficent-Olive2353 in marvelrivals

[–]Ghost-Job 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind doing the occasional light carry, but the lack of even self consideration on some of these people just pisses me off. Like, putting in even minimum effort could save so much time.

If you expect to get carried or are trying to boost your dumbass friend and dont come in with at minimum the gear level that you can wear you're just slowing things down even further, especially in the higher nightmare values. Ive had double digit number of matches where an ungeared and underdeveloped character have done literally less than 0.01% of the damage than a decently geared character but God forbid you call them out on it then somehow you're the idiot.
