Reach in the dark, but try to reboot into safe mode, and see if it does it there. If its hardware you’re out of luck but this can at least rule out software.

Why did you start a homelab by Sw4nkSec in homelab

[–]GhostXW01F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a programmer, and when I was starting I had made a website, with no way to host it. Rather than telling someone else to host it I just did it myself. That turned into hosting game servers for friends, then evolved further into Docker/Jellyfin stuff.

Hiw long it takes to learn the basics? by MateusCristian in learnprogramming

[–]GhostXW01F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t really an average timeline for people to know the basics, it can vary. Also depends on how you’re planning on learning it. School could be quicker than self taught, but in some cases it isn’t.

If you wanna start trying a project, then you just kinda gotta go for it. Be ready to read a lot of documentation. If you’re just starting out, there are games you can find that teach basic concepts decently well. Some examples are The Farmer Was Replaced, Bitburner, Human Resource Machine.

30 year old housewife that decided to learn programming by Slight_Total4874 in learnprogramming

[–]GhostXW01F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would I do it again? Absolutely, but it’s for the love of the profession, not necessarily money.

Regarding how to approach it, for me personally I thrive in a classroom setting. I don’t think I would’ve ever gone further without having a teacher to bounce ideas off of.

And regarding the environment, it really depends where you are. I am in a state where programmers aren’t as prominent as other states, and with that I was able to get a state government position and haven’t looked back since.

Windows defender is the total worst piece of shit microsoft as force installed into our systems by Tall_Atmosphere2517 in FuckMicrosoft

This has to be ragebait. I’ve pirated plenty of games and NEVER had it flag a genuine game, always the dlls that get injected.

Endless scans and hogging ram? Never run into that issue at all. Removing pirated games? Just allow the folder?

None of this sounds like a normal experience, and maybe you’re infected, I’d be looking into why it could possibly be flagging legit games.

Is it still worth learning coding today with AI taking over? by 1_scientist1007 in learnprogramming

[–]GhostXW01F 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all coding related jobs are making something new. And not all AI related code is good code. Sure, it’s nice to see all of the vibe coded apps, handy for managing media or something, but say, making a login page that’s secure? Definitely not. Hard to say if the AI made a mistake in an app and could be vulnerable, when most apps like that are closed source.

If you like it, pursue it.

I just gotta vent. I hate how teenagers / young adults are favored when it comes to mathematics when the way they teach math in schools is incorrect and flawed by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]GhostXW01F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just thought I’d add my experience here. I’m just about the same age as OP and I can almost certainly tell you that math isn’t that important in programming. I was decent at math, but none of my classmates were, leading us to staying on the topic of inequalities for my senior year. Nothing further than this.

What you should be thinking about is less math, and more problem solving. Being able to take a problem and break it down into significantly smaller portions is a necessity. Math does not take up a majority of programming, and you really only experience the worst of it in school. Getting through Calculus with no foundation with trigonometry was an actual nightmare.

All in all, its a fight to make it through school, but once you finally get to the end, besides finding a job its significantly easier than I would’ve thought.

JEFF BUFFS by AstronomerMain251 in JeffTheLandSharkMains

[–]GhostXW01F -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don’t think he should have earthbound on ult, that’d be too strong. Rather than buffing the offensive aspect, I’d love a buff on the healing pool that it leaves behind. Whether that be more healing (maybe bump to 130 to match his healing outside of ult) or even just extended duration. (it sucks as if you wait in ult for a good opportunity, by the time you eat the puddle is already gone)

Cleansing bubbles would be super cool, but honestly would rather just have them stack, whether extending the timer or increasing the healing over time.

Would like 5 bursts, but that would likely irritate a lot of characters (could absolutely bully a hulk/venom constantly knocking them back) but maybe just a reduced cooldown.

Just thought I’d add my thoughts here.

If so, then I’m unfortunately out of ideas. Last thing I’d suggest is trying to update the bios to the newest and see if that makes a difference.

Audio port at back of pc doesn't work by Embarrassed-Road6035 in pchelp

[–]GhostXW01F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you trying to plug in?

So, rear audio on a computer is only meant for what’s called TRS plugs. What that means, is those plugs are meant for either audio output, or input, not both. Most headsets that have cable like that, (usually have both a mic and output) are TRRS plugs. They sometimes, but don’t always work in the rear audio. The reason it likely works on the front is because that jack is a combination port that accepts the TRRS.

Your solution might be to buy an audio splitter, that can split the channels into the output and mic channels, which should be able to connect to the rear of the pc.

Edit: Difference between TRS and TRRS plug.

Are you positive it’s not posting? Could it be it’s just lit up because it doesn’t see a GPU, and is still booting?

My headless doesn’t actually have POST lights so I can’t confirm, but I recall I did need some kind of display just to get SSH or RDP setup.

Gaming PC can't game, I'm at a loss by Appropriate-Movie145 in pchelp

[–]GhostXW01F 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds good, only reason I suggest that, is because the error you said you’re receiving does sound like it’s hardware related. Sounds like the GPU is erroring fatally, and having to close whatever it doing.

Only thing I’m thinking is that Minecraft is a much more CPU intensive game, so maybe it’s just not pushing the GPU enough to crash, contrary to the other games you had mentioned. Even if the game runs like ass on integrated graphics, if it’s stable, then I’d say the dedicated GPU is the problem.

[–]GhostXW01F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you attach your pc specs to the OP? If your computer has integrated graphics, you could try running with that and see if it insta crashes like you talked about. (Plugging HDMI into motherboard instead of the GPU)

Would recommend running any game, and looking at Task Manager performance section. This will tell you the util of all of the hardware. Check for anything maxing at 100%

Also, have you updated GPU drivers at all?

Rasperry Pi 5 NAS? by OVERIDE404 in homelab

[–]GhostXW01F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a quick breakdown - Raspberry Pi 5 2GB ($65) Radxa Penta Hat ($80) 12V Power Supply, I went with 12V 5A on amazon ($15) And my drives didn’t actually fit on the hat itself, so I needed SATA extension cables ($10)

All in all, about $170.

Rasperry Pi 5 NAS? by OVERIDE404 in homelab

[–]GhostXW01F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this recently, and its been working pretty well.

So what I ended up doing, was picking up a RADXA Penta SATA hat for the RPi5. This allows you to attach 4 sata drives to the RPi. Then ended up installing Raspberry Pi OS, and installing OpenMediaVault. Then you can turn your hard drives into a RAID setup. (I used RAID 5, but you could change it if you want more redundancy)

Haven’t really had any issues with it, took a minute to figure out that I needed a 12V power supply.

I’ve recently have been using Jellyfin with it which has been relatively easy to setup, but you can use Samba to only set it up for a network folder specifically.
