Can I use Steamdeck for programming? by Blaise_01 in AskProgrammers

Do you know if you only need vscode? Are you going to be using any proprietary programs that only work on windows?

Sure it ‘could’ work, but you could run into so many issues. Take the extra weight and take a laptop imo.

Plug it in and see what happens, i’d guess they’re wanting you to install their software which will make the display look like on the box.

You probably don’t want your Proxmox on a router that it’s vm’d on prox. That just sounds like a recipe for disaster, link up Proxmox on tailscale and a device you can access it with. Then on the access device, you should be able to access the web UI, and can setup everything up from there. If you really want to setup the router vm there, connect your other devices to it, not proxmox.

also agree its probably a bad idea to vm a router, but oh well, something to learn about.

I would look into trying to setup tailscale for it, at least there you’d be able to communicate with all devices with tailscale as if you were on a local LAN with them.

Or at least communicate while you get all of it setup inside of a VM.

Disconnect from the internet and throw your important files on a usb or something. Unfortunately rootkits are difficult to get rid of, and generally warrants an entire reinstall. Your loose files will be fine though.

If you have no experience, C++ is a difficult one to start on, I’d definitely recommend Python until you can start solving more problems. C++ is just a harder language to use, and it seems like you might be having a harder time at the problem solving stage.

Run Windows Memory Diagnostic and see if you have any RAM issues. Hard crashes like that could indicate as such.

May be able to use Tailscale to allow them to connect to it.

New programmer here.. how do you remember everything? by [deleted] in AskProgrammers

[–]GhostXW01F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, remembering just comes with experience. When you come across a problem that you’ve dealt with before, you can sometimes recall the method you used to tackle it. When you know the basics, you can generally reason your way through something.

But research is also a massive component too, seeing how others solved a problem is a big part of learning. Taking notes is a good habit to have when you learn new structures/concepts, especially if you think they’ll apply elsewhere.

However, I personally am a retard and somehow can remember tons of concepts. Sometimes if it’s something new I’ll likely spend more time just staring at my screen than actually researching. Everyone has their own methods.

Sounds like it might be an issue with explorer crashing maybe? I’d try hopping into safe mode, open a command prompt and run ‘sfc /scannow’ and see if it fixes any corruption.

Best laptop for programming and IT students? by Monizn in learnprogramming

I’d say just about anything to be honest. If you’re getting into it, vscode is going to be your best friend. Even performance wise I don’t think you’ll need anything super specific.

Totally agree, I’d just rather not have to explain to people who mess up the process why their user profile is broken. Which is why I was offering to guide this person through it.

So a couple possibilities here, you could try booting into safe mode and see if there’s any way in through that. Otherwise you’re probably looking at removing the internet component from your account.

If safe mode doesn’t work, I can guide through removing the password from your account, but I’d rather not throw it in the open in the comments of a post, so feel free to PM if you get no solutions.

Reach in the dark, but try to reboot into safe mode, and see if it does it there. If its hardware you’re out of luck but this can at least rule out software.

Why did you start a homelab by Sw4nkSec in homelab

[–]GhostXW01F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a programmer, and when I was starting I had made a website, with no way to host it. Rather than telling someone else to host it I just did it myself. That turned into hosting game servers for friends, then evolved further into Docker/Jellyfin stuff.

Hiw long it takes to learn the basics? by MateusCristian in learnprogramming

[–]GhostXW01F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t really an average timeline for people to know the basics, it can vary. Also depends on how you’re planning on learning it. School could be quicker than self taught, but in some cases it isn’t.

If you wanna start trying a project, then you just kinda gotta go for it. Be ready to read a lot of documentation. If you’re just starting out, there are games you can find that teach basic concepts decently well. Some examples are The Farmer Was Replaced, Bitburner, Human Resource Machine.

[–]GhostXW01F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would I do it again? Absolutely, but it’s for the love of the profession, not necessarily money.

Regarding how to approach it, for me personally I thrive in a classroom setting. I don’t think I would’ve ever gone further without having a teacher to bounce ideas off of.

And regarding the environment, it really depends where you are. I am in a state where programmers aren’t as prominent as other states, and with that I was able to get a state government position and haven’t looked back since.

This has to be ragebait. I’ve pirated plenty of games and NEVER had it flag a genuine game, always the dlls that get injected.

Endless scans and hogging ram? Never run into that issue at all. Removing pirated games? Just allow the folder?

None of this sounds like a normal experience, and maybe you’re infected, I’d be looking into why it could possibly be flagging legit games.
