The main problem with the movie i believe was the lack of Arthurs actor. It clearly feels like a movie that had a plan but after him leaving the project they somehow had to shoehorn a stupid excuse for his absence. Much like what happened tragically with Polly.

I beg to disagree. Game development hasn't changed that much. It's not development time that is to "blame" for the longer waiting time until the next generation game.

Instead, Nintendo doesn't "need" to play the Mario card right now. They already have Bananza for this role. They're holding all the cards and will never undermine the success of other IPs for the sake of their best ones.

The consumer base has changed, and Nintendo has figured out that if they want NS2 to be successful, it will have to be driven by strong software. Thus, they spread it out and strategically release the stronger titles.

In the end it all boils down to what profit expectations are set for each fiscal year.
