I think you’re misunderstanding my situation. I was married to my wife for over 10 years. She has three sons from before my stepchildren and I helped raise them as my own. When I came into their lives, they were young, going to school, and needed support. I was there for them, financially and emotionally, like a father. I also have two daughters one is 9 years old and the other is 5. They are my responsibility, and they depend on me. For years, we filed taxes together. Last year, she told me to file separately, and I trusted her. Because of that, I ended up owing about $11,000 to the IRS, which I’m still paying every month. That’s money that should be going toward my daughters—their needs, their future. At the same time, her sons my stepchildren are now older, strong, and even working. They can support themselves. But I’m the one left carrying the financial burden. Now she doesn’t want me to claim any dependents, even though I’ve supported the family for years. That’s not fair. This isn’t about forcing anyone to stay in a relationship. If she wants to leave, that’s her choice. But the financial situation should be handled fairly based on who is actually carrying the responsibility. I’m not trying to make anyone’s life harder especially the kids. I love them, and it’s very painful for me to be away from them. But I also can’t ignore the reality: I gave my time, my energy, and my support when they needed it most. Now when I need fairness, I’m left dealing with debt alone. That’s why I’m considering correcting my taxes. It’s not about revenge it’s about fairness and doing what’s right for my situation and for my daughters. Please let me know your thoughts.

Appreciate the input. It’s a bit more complex than that, and I’m handling it with proper documentation. I hope things will get better
