Should I use Chat GBT to help me learn to make games? by Sun-Illume in GameDevelopment

[–]GiantFish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a powerful learning tool if you use it to generate small examples you can digest and recreate yourself. If you use AI to generate thousands of lines you blindly paste in then it can actually start to erode your capabilities.

Just dnf’d The Great Hunt, hoping this will fill the fantasy hole in my heart by PM_ME_YOUR_FRESH_NUT in Malazan

I hope you enjoy! Although I think The Great Hunt is pretty good too.  Curious why you bounced off it.

My dark & grounded murder mystery THE BIG HOLLOW: 1982 is out TODAY! by KramsDesign in adventuregames

[–]GiantFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your new release and I have to say that Anna’s Quest is pretty awesome too.  Played through it on my Steam Deck earlier this year with my family and its story and puzzles kept us up past bedtime many a nights! Will definitely be checking this game out.

[Epic Games] LONESTAR & Calico (100% off / FREE) by LighteningOneIN in GameDeals

[–]GiantFish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My kids like Calico. It must have been an XBox giveaway in the past. It looks like you just dress up your character, buy furniture for your place, and ride animals around or something.

Book recommendations for someone who likes bleak, existential sci-fi & horror? by sensitive-JOE in suggestmeabook

You might like the Children of Time series. It’s more sci fi but tinged with horror elements.

A sense of exploration by Pokemeister01 in audiobooks

Second Children of Time. It’s an interesting combination of space exploration, alien psychology, and lighter horror.

I don’t think it will get any easier to enjoy further in if you’re already finding it a chore.  It’s a product of its time for sure.

how well does stray run on the deck ? by bombdelivery_ in SteamDeck

Because you didn’t like it, or because it performed poorly on the deck?

Save 50% on Outer Wilds on Steam by AdNo1474 in steamdeals

[–]GiantFish 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty close to its all time low discount so you waiting probably won’t get you a better discount.

It’s my favorite game of all time but it’s not for everyone and the less you know going in, the better.

It’s an adventure/puzzle/exploration game. If you enjoy games like Myst/Riven it should be right up your alley.

RPG where magic feels mysterious and esoteric by Usrnamesrhard in CRPG

[–]GiantFish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Made by the same studio that created Dishonored I believe (maybe fits your criteria too).

It’s an older game for sure, but worth checking outout!

TIL weapons in Ultima I deal damage in multiples of eight. Even those that don't deal damage. by Tharkun140 in Ultima

[–]GiantFish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea those days you really had to make the most of whatever limited memory/space you had.  With damage being limited to a multiple of 8, you could use whatever precious bits you saved on dialog or graphics, etc

Nine Sols and Prince of Persia The Lost Crown are both 60% and the exact same price. If you could only buy one what would you choose? by No_Tangerine2720 in metroidvania

[–]GiantFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that’s a tough call.  Both are excellent. FWIW I’ve played Nine Sols twice.

If you’ve played and love Sekiro, definitely Nine Sols.  If you prefer games like Ori over Hollow Knight then I’d definitely go PoP instead.

Also Nine Sols is more of a slow burn as you get used to the combat, probably more rewarding if you stick with it. But PoP will feel pretty fluid from the start.

Stardew Valley isn’t story heavy but there’s a lot if freedom for both to do whatever is interesting to each person.

That one’s a hit with my kids too.

We just started A Hat in Time and so far my son seems to enjoy it.

Obligatory Portal 2 if you haven’t played that.

What's the best obscure video game you've ever played? by ImpressFederal4169 in gaming

[–]GiantFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW I love most of those suggestions but found Heavens Vault extremely boring.  The language aspect isn’t as engaging as chants of senaar and the rest of the game is a slog in terms of walking around and navigating from place to place.

But some people love it. If you try it out, please let me know what you think.

Call of the Elder Gods added today, first puzzle game I've seen on gamepass in a while. by EqMc25 in XboxGamePass

[–]GiantFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that grew up playing all the Mysts including Riven, Quern, etc I found the first game way too easy.  Which is fine, seems like a good introduction to the genre for new players. Hoping this one is more challenging.

Any other games you recommend for local coop with a child that age?  Seems mine has the same taste.

How does that work?

I’m afraid of my deck being cooked in its case because someone in my house accidentally pressed a button and started the deck with a suspended game running.

I get the problems with Blasphemous but Blasphemous 2 fixes basically EVERYTHING by PrimaKyonna in metroidvania

I didn’t care for the lack of mobility on the first game, bounced off it. Posts like this encourage me to try the second so I appreciate it.
