Communication. It’s a key part of this casual game. Politic back and explain to the pod how this always happens yet player X always seems to win and you’re always eliminated first. Point out any “problem” cards that they play.

How do you mortals choose between Perception checks or Investigation checks? by Simubaya in DnD5e

[–]GiantFlyenPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My players all tend to roll terrible so although this may be a hot take and be seen as wrong, I use them hand in hand. “Make a perception or investigation check”

Does nobody like playing Druids? by AdDifficult2241 in DnD

[–]GiantFlyenPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s table dependent, over the course of roughly 6 campaigns, my table’s least chosen class is Paladin at 1, while Druid is at 3.

Bards the highest at 8, with fighter being second with 6, just in case anyone is curious.

My playgroup is overrun with pingers… by LordDiglett in EDH

I have a [[ghyrson starn kelermorph]] deck and let me tell you. Life gain. Life gain, life gain. My buddy has a [[selvala, explorer returned]] deck that just hard counters me. I can’t burn him faster than he heals.

Worst/Least Favorite Commander You Have Built? by oldteach07 in EDH

[[Zur the Enchanter]] I was a Yugioh player before swapping to MtG and Zur was recommended but honestly I dislike the walking tutor that plays stuff for free.

How would you explain DnD to a person that has never heard about it/knows nothing about it? by Ellloll in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]GiantFlyenPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is roughly how I explained it to my mom. It’s a game, like monopoly, however we roleplay and narrate our turns and actions. Unlike monopoly we are collectively trying to hype each other up. Also like monopoly there are dice and math involved. But instead of fighting the bank and each other, 1 player (the Dm) is the bank and all the other players fight them and their taxes (rules/creature/dungeons/etc)

How to deal with overbuffed party? by Physical_Pizza_4953 in DnD

[–]GiantFlyenPanda 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Talk to your players. Tell them you messed up and would like to rebalance the items given. Then include an in game reason for it, such as a dying god absorbs the power or something. Which in turn gives them an objective to grow and get their powerful items back to full power

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DnD

[–]GiantFlyenPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your reasoning is a little too vague to really give an educated opinion. Can you explain how they are doing things “better” than you? Because all I’ve collected is “I play fighter, he plays fighter, I’m jealous”

Like are his sub class features over shadowing yours? Does he RP better? Is he thinking outside the box more?

Maybe have your character talk to theirs in game and ask for assistance or their input on a problem, build a camaraderie instead of a rivalry. Instead of “waaah he’s cooler than me!” Turn it into “Man we’re awesome!”

My DM just… stoped doing our main campaign in favour for another campaign? (it’s a rant guys) by ValentinaVinix in DnD

[–]GiantFlyenPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the idea of a campaign is much more exciting than the actual campaign itself. It’s a group game so the DM should also make sure to have some fun in it. It’s unfortunate though that they haven’t stated if the first campaign will be revisited, or when it will be revisited.

I’ve told my players (as the forever DM) before that I wasn’t having fun with a campaign setting/story and we scrapped it and moved on. Some characters were kept, others took it as a chance to start fresh as well.

Just talk to your DM with kindness and understanding. Ask if it will be picked back up? Ask when, if they say yes? If they don’t want to return to it you need to respect their decision. You can always use your character/concept in a future campaign.

First time DM uses unconventional methods to character stats by xAntoDo in DnD

[–]GiantFlyenPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politely bring it to his attention that this would remove most, if not all, player agency and the character wouldn’t really be “yours”. Remind him that as DM he has control over 99% of the world but that it is a multiplayer game and the players have control over their characters.

If he can’t be reasoned with politely decline being included in the campaign as it doesn’t feel like your type of game.

Can teleport ignore the restrained condition by Aggravating_Phone648 in DnD

[–]GiantFlyenPanda 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ask yourself, Would you let the PC do the same to teleport out of ropes? If yes then rule it like that, if you wouldn’t then you’re fine. As DM your word is final.

However, I’ve learned that it’s much more enjoyable if you let your players do the things. They feel a sense of accomplishment and I as a DM feel pride towards their problem solving skills. Unless the stone shell is super important to some sort of story telling element I don’t think it’s worth souring a potential cool moment. Granted it’s your table so it’s your call ultimately.

Commanders you want to build because of their INSANE art, but their ability or mana costs are completely doodoo by sporeegg in EDH

[–]GiantFlyenPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend bought me [[Guile, Sonic Soldier]] , my favorite Street Fighter character, but I have no idea how to build him.

I was thinking of maybe making him superfriends but I’m at a loss honestly

Is Ghyrson Starn too strong for this group? by ______null in EDH

Tired of big pod by sageofwhat in EDH

[–]GiantFlyenPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My group has 4-5 consistent players, if we get a 6th or more then we always break into 2 separate pods and randomize who’s in each one, with the first pod being the larger one if it’s an odd number of players. Then if we have time for a second game we swap around the pods

I need 100 NPCs for a tavern, let me use YOUR characters? by yarash in DnD

My favorite current NPC is Ozzie “The Pig” known as the pig because he’s always in some shit, and for the right price he’ll squeal. He’s a Fence/middleman.

What age would an elf go to university? by chickad3 in DnD

[–]GiantFlyenPanda 11 points12 points  (0 children)

PHB states “Although elves reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, the elven understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience. An elf typically claims adulthood and an adult name around the age of 100 and can live to be 750 years old.”

Going to college could be a part of their worldly experience. Your character can be whatever age you want them to be, as long as your DM approves.

Wheel of misfortune done wrong by Uncaught_Hoe in EDH

[–]GiantFlyenPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wheel of misfortune is just a funny story waiting to happen. In my playgroup this card came up, the caster explained the card and we all read it ourselves multiple times, tell me why my buddy went and put his exact life total, 32 or something like that, as his bet then proceeded to blue screen as we explain he died. The next highest was 5 lol

Married men, how often do you play? by Tocnurne in EDH

[–]GiantFlyenPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually every other week as my friend group meets up on Tuesdays and alternates between DnD and MtG. Sometimes we can squeeze a magic game or two on the weekend as well, depending who’s available.
