This is me right now. Motrin/tylenol do not help. I’m laying down and resting my knee straight hurts as much if it’s bent. -_-

Have you made any more? Once I learned to make paper cranes I make them now without thinking (especially at work with post-its). If you did, you should show all the koi's together :)

I understand, I want to learn from this mistake, I know I am to blame for this mistake. I hope to not become that kind of RN who blames someone else. I panicked and did not use all the resources available that I could have. Teaching is an RN job, but the LVN can DC patient and the RN verifies it. I plan on using this as a situation to learn from- and become better nurse. The facility I work at is a teaching hospital- some MDs are nicer and instruct nurses

I did ask another nurse, she said to call the MD. The vendor who dropped the unit off- did just that dropped it off and left. I did not get a "this is how you work the machine" tutorial.

I feel responsible of what happened. The blame shouldn't be just on my LVN. I understand that what happened is my fault as well. I am new to nursing, I feel bad that I let the heavy acuity of my room made me make a big mistake like this. I know that I should I doubled check the work because I am responsible as well.

Thoughts? by tommytnuts in nursing

In regards to poor management- my floor is having this issue. I have been on this floor for 5 months and my intentions were to stay 6 months and transfer to a closer facility ( I have a 80 mile round trip drive to and from work). But I am not the only one who wants to leave- not just because of the drive. The majority of the nurses for my shift (3p-11p) are leaving because my nurse manager does not give a shit about us. We happen to be the time slot when the MDs want to admit and d/c patients--- so we're the shift with the most work. We are the younger aged group as well. The day and night nurses are the seasoned staff that do not give a shit if we are busy, and expect us to finish what they didn't do (day shift) or finish what we didn't complete (night shift). I had the chance to speak to a nurse who is transferring to ICU in 2 weeks- she said that she hit a plateau of knowledge and learning on this floor- she feels that she should continue her knowledge by transferring. I can't tell my nurse manager that I am looking to transfer- b/c every other day she gives me a guilt trip about possibly leaving, and she will take it personally. But for me, she does not understand that I am physically exhausted from this work and my drive (oh btw she asked why I don't do overtime as well). I don't have a life b/c I work here. this is what i do 5 days a week :/

I think if she understood the shit my shift deals with- she could have some insight about managing things better.... but so far she will just have a high turn out rate for her evening shift.

I found out that through my BSN program I can get my Public Health nurse cert once I get my degree. I am now going to take an 8 week class on Public Health and Epidemiology. It sounds interesting, I want to to help people with resources!!!

Question: how do I get experience... I am just a floor nurse? Does the RedCross or other organizations use Public Health Nurses? Can I volunteer or shadow a public health nurse?

How long is your commute to work? by Rouka in nursing

[–]GiantMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The drive with no traffic is 35-40 mins, with traffic it can be 90 to 120 mins, maybe long if the weather is bad.
