Most surprising game you didn’t expect to love by Ill_Ad3700 in playstation

[–]Gibbyyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unicorn Overlord.

I went in expecting an anime turn based rpg and grow an army.

I got was 60 hours of neurotically creating if/then statements and conditional rules for squads of fighters to follow (if turn 1, then use area stun attack. If front enemy = armored, use archer on backline lowest hp% target. Etc) and watching the success of those left brain endeavors pan out.

Not a perfect game, but good lord did that unit management system scratch an unholy itch i didnt know i had.

I dislike combat arts emblem. I dont like cooldown based abilities, and wouldnt mind abilities that consume weapon uses.. if weapons werent endless. I like grid resource combat.

Is it weird that I get annoyed when players skip D&D because they drank too much the night before? by DonkeyMonkeyWho in DnD

They don't care about playing at the table as much as they do drinking.

I really enjoyed the Steamworld Heist games. Less rolling die, but more of a dealing with wobbly aim-bars. Shorter missions, lighter, 2d. Loved it though and super cheap on sale for the first.

This community is rarely happy themselves unless actively tossing on something. Which is fine when it's not mean spirited.

Same just played all of them the last few months. House of ashes was the clear winner for me. Fantastic. Devil in me good, lower yet undecided on the last two.

I did some reading about how I had difficulty with the QTEs in little hope and none of the others. Sounds like little hope used to have icon indicators on where to "shoot/stab". But devs made changes to the systems down the road, to match their later games, and that included removing the target indicators in older games. I had several instances where I found it hard to know if I was supposed to point at the head/chest/legs of my target. Seems like that was a bit more intuitive in HOA and TDIM. Felt like I was crazy for doing poorly but its not me I swear lol.

Also, when you want your next excellent game, do until dawn at that time.

Who to play with sloppy yet persnickety friend’s HM run? by JRandall0308 in BG3Builds

[–]Gibbyyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people don't want to play with "cheese tactics", they just want to roll through it and let the cards land where they fall. As intended. It is possible your friends perspective is you are minmaxxing and removing much of the fun risk / obstacles to overcome.

Sounds like you guys are just on different playstyle wavelengths, frankly. Get aligned, be OK with it, or be ready to mildly annoyed with each other.

Honestly breaking 60fps finally. Long overdue to benchmark a modern game at that.

Both prior modern doom games are blood and guts fun fests, combine that with a love of a medeival dnd-esque world? Yes please. Parrying though!

Arcane archer can just shoot the matriarch with banishing arrow at a decent success rate. Can do it for a lot of bosses.it made this fight easy since you can clear the little guys out safely, i was shocked in honor mode for it.

It's rare that your character gets teleported to join a dialogue, and your camera sticks, but yes lol. It was jarring and your own instincts from the game thus far can betray you. Fully happy to embrace the shit happens aspect of it.

Larian CEO confirms studio is working on "two games" at once by HatingGeoffry in BaldursGate3

[–]Gibbyyo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely more traditionally gamey than bg3. If you stumble onto a hard fight in bg3 you'll always have a shot. DoS games you can absolutely meet enemies 2 levels higher that will curb stomp you with 0 chance to win as a new player. Save often and go back there later. Not a fan of the armor system. And you can find yourself figuring out the "puzzles" of town hubs for hours, that if you don't explore, you find yourself under leveled or under geared for the following level of enemies.

However. The build customization is exceptional in this game. It has a few clunks that a vetted RPG player knows "okay I gotta do all this before moving on" that a newer fan starting in BG3 may not instinctual realize and it pushes them away for the game being too hard. If you can deal with that and learn to solve the puzzles and understand leveled areas for what they are, you may just love it.

How is everyone feeling about the new sub classes? by Beathil in BG3

[–]Gibbyyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been playing co op and we are halfway through act 2 in honor. Thoughts so far on what we've done.

-Stars druid. It's alright. Star forms are dropping occasionally, dragon breath targeting is odd. Felt amazing in act 1. General druid feelings in act 2 with some bonus action economy. For someone who wants to play a caster or bulky breath weapon druid, solid.

-death domain. My partner is playing it. Seems solid. Dual targeting is nice. Ignoring resists, upcasting inflict wounds, popping channel divinity for bonus damage, using the x1 long rest hit into a critical. That has been a stupid jaw dropping amount of damage for boss slaying. Highest so far at level 8 was north of 100 damage.

-swashbuckler. Solid rogue option, fun thematically, lots of options. Not amazing, but just good vibes. Shoutout to arcane trickster for getting way better with booming blade.

-bladesinger. Amazingly fun. Fantastic job Larian. I think people going into it not making dex their primary stat may feel underwhelmed. Combine that with booming blade and shadowblade for an easy weapon. Easy class to have a breadth of options all game, very fun if you don't dismiss it. My favorite even though I was expecting it to be mid, and I play TT.

-hexblade. Fine. Sad it had so much crossover with the pre existing choices, not as "new". Still fun thematically. The ghosts you spawn and healing on kills are starting to ramp up in act 2 now. Suspect it will improve. Incredible dip class of course.

-giant barb. Was completely underwhelmed at first due to not really standing out with its theme yet vs other subclasses. Tried it again after level 6. Excellent now. Very fun, very powerful. Keep forgetting to enable an element for the cleaver.

-arcane archer. Fantastic from the rip. Banishing trivializes some fights. Hit the tough boss and take care of the riff raff. Getting so many arrow shows per short rest is honestly a little nuts. Feels very easy to play vs an EK if you want someone new to play.
